  • Announcing the Most Awesome Raspberry Pi Lessons of All Times! This time we RUMBLE!
In this class series, we will be using the most excellent Sunfounder Ultimate Raspberry Pi kit, available here: (Affiliate Link)
    amzn.to/3tSk9Mo
or for our UK friends, amzn.to/3I5d401
In this video lesson I will show you how to remotely connect to the Raspberry pi and control it with a remote desktop. We will do this using realVNC server on the Raspberry Pi, and the real VNC viewer on the client side, which is your PC.
If you want to grab those cool little straight jumper wires I am using to keep my breadboard builds neat and clean you can snag a box of them here:
    amzn.to/36NyfHq
If you guys are interested in the oscilloscope I am using, you can pick one up here (affiliate link):
    amzn.to/3v13Mhl
You guys get your hardware ordered so you can follow along at home!
You will also need a Raspberry Pi. I suggest the Raspberry Pi 4. If you do not already have one, this is the most suitable gear I could find:
    amzn.to/3pBMfKm
The Raspberry Pi's are sort of pricy right now, so you can look on ebay or elsewhere to see if there are any deals. You will need a SD card. If you do not already have one, this is a good one:
    amzn.to/3KcXTn2
I like using a wireless keyboard and mouse to have fewer wires. You can certainly use your USB keyboard and mouse, but if you want a nice wireless one, this one works on the pi. We demonstrate this by using a button switch to control a LED.
    amzn.to/36Rv9Sk
You guys can help me out over at Patreon, and that will help me keep my gear updated, and help me keep this quality content coming:

Thanks Paul. I have been running on VNC this whole time but sometimes my screen would go funky on me. I think you may have solved my problem. things are tying together.

Great lesson Paul. Best thing I have found is that doing vids is a lot better with VNC. Granted I am on a Pi 3 so recording on the Pi can create some lag. With the VNC the fast laptop does the recording and the Pi runs normal. Thanks Paul for all you do.

Another awesome tool to work with is ngrok... with the right configuration... you will be able to have VNC running from anywhere in the world (not just from your internal network.). Just like teamviewer!

Great lesson, Paul. I missed the premiere but watched it later even though I''m already using VNC. I only have 1 HD monitor which luckily has 2 HDMI inputs because I couldn't get VNC to work unless the pi was plugged into the monitor. I plugged it in and then forgot about it. It's a bit annoying because the monitor switches over to HDMI2 when the Windows screen saver kicks in and I have to switch it back. Thanks to this lesson, I can now dispense with the extra cable. Hurrah!!

This was very helpful. Now I do not have to scoot my chair back and forth between computers. In fact I can get a lot of desk space back by using VPN. It does not look like it increases memory usage much either. Thank you Mr. McWhorter.

Ok, good. But how do i go the other way around? I been following the lessons and the references within, and one of the references was to the sound amplifier, which turned out to be a really epic thing if you wire that to a decent speaker. I've bought a huge broken speaker from a crackhead, fixed it using amplifier in the raphael kit, and now have my whole home entertainment set up on R Pi now, got beautiful graphics and epic sound, but the only cd drive in the house is on an old ubuntu pc sitting in another room. I got full collection of startreck voyager and i want to watch that on my new rpi powered epic entertainment system, but it won't let me install realvnc on ubuntu without registering. i don't want to move the other computer as its my wive's and i dont want to remove cd drive from it either for the same reason..

why do IP address instead of just the name of the raspberry pi? I have mine connected as just pi5 and didnt need to enter the IP address. Wouldnt this remove the need to do a static IP address?

"Unable to connect to VNC Server using your chosen security setting.
Either upgrade VNC Server to a more recent version from RealVNC, or
select a weaker level of encryption."
    what do I do? I'm stuck. T_T
