How do 4 people already dislike this video? If your watching it at the minimum you enjoy fly fishing or nature. Tristan is passionate about fly fishing, uses crimped barbs, and handles his catches (or catch in this case) to minimize stress on the fish. I really enjoy the real small creeks like this 1 filled only with native fish- I was surprised to see the size of that Yellowstone Cutt. Encourages me to continue to explore even smaller creeks here in CO. Keep it up Tristian, thanks for the content.
I stopped worrying about the dislikes long ago. Can't please everyone! And I was surprised by the size of the fish too. It was a beauty. Thanks for watching.
We love your videos! My wife has affectionately nick-named you "FISH ON!" We're Nevada residents and can totally relate to the little creeks you're exploring! Keep doing what you do!
It's amazing how small a stream can hold native trout. Fished a lot like it in West Va. Most people wouldn't believe how much fun it is. Thanks for sharing
I never comment on videos, but I just had to on this one. This was the perfect 10 minute suspenseful fishing video. As others have said, I found myself rooting for you and I wasn't disappointed. The shot of the spooked fish was cool as well. I am inspired by your videos, keep them coming. I am a little older and I have a hard time with the tough terrain on small creeks but I've found I really enjoy tenkara out of my kayak looking for panfish along the bank of my favorite lakes. I've learned quite a lot by watching you. Thanks
Thanks for the kind words, Jason! Yeah, this one was a rollercoaster for me too. I have a kayak fishing video coming up in the next couple of weeks, actually (my first one).
Yes similar experience here inTN. Have a 5 ft rod fromTiny Tenkara. First trip with it frustrating as it really doesn’t cast as such. 2nd trip to small local creek I caught very small rainbow. Best use is like what you experienced small overgrown creeks. Casting very short distance or dapping. Biggest problem is you have to get so close to creek you spook fish, just as you experienced. Collapsed it is small enough to fit in my chest pack so I can easily take it along with my 8 ft Tenkara and haul it out when conditions call for it.
Enjoyed your video very much The Kiyotaki 180 would be ideal for such tight places. I have that same rod and use it in really tiny creeks here in Victoria, Australia for wild brown trout. It casts very well with 6 feet of 3.5 level line and a couple of feet of 5X tippet. I also use a 5 foot telescopic rod that I got off Ebay with 6 feet of .7mm shooting line--it was too stiff to cast the 3.5 line. I would have liked to buy theTinyTen rod but our lousy exchange rate and postage made it an expensive choice. No fault of Tiny Ten's! I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Cheers, Steve.
Would like more videos on your tiny tenkara experiences. I have a 4’ rod that I’ve tried a couple times. Now you got me rethinking and wanting to explore more with it.
Use long rod and short line in tiny creeks......yup..... I have a 15 foot rod that I fish open water with and use short line (2feet up to 4 feet) in small creeks....yup .... I carry the average 360 also and prefer it over all others but in tiny creeks I slip the long rod through all kinds of brushy and put the fly in their mouth....yup
OK I’m addicted.....love the positivity.....and the narration.....quick question is the fly you are using a dry fly or soft hackle type fly.....keep them coming !
I think my Nissin Sasuke might, but you’re probably right. I did have a kyotaki for a while and it was much stouter! Mostly a Suntech guy myself! Keep the great vids coming! Tight lines and no reels!
I have that same rod in the 240 size and REALLY like it. I haven't used a level line on it yet but have used kevlar as well as an 8' piece of floating level fly line. It handles those really well. Caught a bunch of brookies in small creeks on that. Great video and what a gorgeous fish. Who'da thunk!
Awesome channel - - even better expression of "fish on". Your channel has turned me onto a new interest and am starting to research a good "starter" rod. I live in Colorado and try to get into the mountains to backpack. Any suggestions on rod length, 6/4 or 7/3, etc?
Glad you got one in the net. Neat little rod. Theres plenty of streams around where I go that a smaller rod like that would be perfect. I've thought about picking up something similar.
Amazing footage of that big one you spooked at your feet. Makes me think you need a 3 to four foot rod with only 12 inches of tippet on it and just place the fly infront of fallen logs etc
That would be like the goby fishing method where you use a rod 4-6 feet long with 6 inches or so of line and a baited hook to attract gobies out from among rocks.
Another great video! You channel is one of my favorite fishing channels. I tie Tenkara flies to use as droppers off dry flies with conventional fly gear. I’m looking hard at some Tenkara rods.
So cool . watching your videos.has got me to tackle the small stream's from South Wales. uk .as you call them creeks.found a small pond with about 50 fish .so tomorrow I will tackle that pond . Love your videos.
Just picked up a 210 cm (6'9" ) from the same company. I have tied up a couple of different length level lines and tippets. Specifically for fishing Utah mountain creeks this spring/summer. Right now I'm hoping I am not locked down, and able to travel! I am tying versions of the Kebari Utah Killer BTW - simple fly to tie, but I'm a beginner, its taken me a few to get the hang of the soft hackle - but it does give me something to do while I'm locked down in California
As always, great video. I purchased that rod a year or so a ago for a creek similar to that one, but I haven't used it much. Did you use a different weight of level line with that rod vs. what you normally use?
Yep, it is. It's a surprisingly good jacket for the price. Waterproof and lightweight. I've had one of the pocket zippers stop working. Other than that, durability seems good enough. I don't think I've ripped any holes in it yet.
Used one last year on a horse ranch in NM. Sand storms, sleet, rain, insane winds, snow, mud like cement and it held up well until I ripped it on barbed wire.
I got the DRAGONtail Shadow Fire 365 and it's my first time ever casting a fly. I've been inspired watching your videos and amazed at how little of water trout need to thrive. I'm in Colorado and have been getting out every week to fish. Question: do you use any flies besides kebari style flies? Any nymphs, dries, streamers?
TA, Just found you and Tankara today. I have never heard of it before. I like the fact no reel, as someone mentioned in another video sort of like cane pole fishing (pole, line, hook). When I was young I looked down on it. Now it appeals to me. I have viewed a couple of your vids and will subscribe. If you have not done so already can you do a video on how to rig the line, and cast. Bow and Arrow was mentioned, I think I saw you do a pitch style cast. I am curious about the set up and casting methods. Also where can I purchase the equipment?
Yep, this ain't Silver Creek. Good lesson on not passing up opportunities like this small stream. Always amazes me how small streams like this can produce trout.
"Blue-collar Tenkara." Lol. I can't believe you caught such a big fish in that small of a creek. Makes me wonder how he got there and why he doesn't go beyond that hole. Do you think he was just living there growing bigger and bigger or would he move on downstream even though there isn't a lot of water to be in?
He got there by just being a native fish, I guess. There have always been those fish in that creek. But I'm not sure how far those fish travel within a creek system like that. Thanks for watching!
By the way, I have a Kiyotaki 240 that I really like. Very fun rod. I love how light it is. My wife is sure that it is a wand straight out of Harry Potter.
@@TenkaraAddict wrong!!! ..... listen to an old man ...... you run your rod (or cane pole) straight in front of you ...... in old days we called it "shortlining" ..... I have done it with 2 feet of line...... with a real short line you can run your rod through very small openings in the brush and drop it right in front of them......of course I couldn't possibly know because I am 70 years old...tenkara being collapsible makes it easy
It's often used as a tanago rod, but I believe it's actually a keiryu rod. There's no way a true tanago rod would have been able to handle a fish of this size. Thanks for watching!
Brushy? Overgrown? That's nothing, calf creek between Boulder and escalante is completely overgrown and almost impossible to cast but loaded with brownies.
The Thrill of victory, the agony of defeat. Thanks Tristan for sharing. Some days are like that....

Agreed!

Lol I think FISH-ON is an appropriate name. I've fished a bit in Nevada but hope to spend more time fishing the NE part of the state this summer.
haha that snow is magical! Convenient seeing as you're fishing with a wand...
Lol indeed!
Have one... bought it several years ago. Liking it. Easy portability. Fits in my backpack with ease and at the ready whenever needed! Great video!
Thanks!
"Ahh, it's just (pause) heart-breaking (pause) demoralizing (pause) gutting." Lol! It's amazing how true these words are in these kinds of situations.

I don't fish, but looking at the size of that creek, I never would have expected to see anything bigger than 3 or 4 inches if that. Nice catch!
Pretty crazy, isn't it? Thanks David!
That really was a nice fish for such a tiny creek. That little rod looks like fun.
Agreed! I was surprised by how big that fish was. Thanks John.

It really was! Thanks for watching.

I'm not too concerned with spooking the fish. I do it even when I'm fishing a 400cm rod!

I was rooting for you, and so pleased when you finally got that lovely fish.
Four fish threw the hook though, I would be checking for sharpness. :-)
Thanks Michael!
You should really use different flies in the winter, you will catch more fish. Try some small midge and mayfly patterns size 18 or smaller.
The flies weren't the issue here. Thanks for watching 👍

A lighter line would probably be ideal, but I just use the #3.5 level line I normally use. Seemed to work well enough.
beautiful sight
Thanks
Loooove tenkara fishing! :D
It's pretty great!
I am amazed at the shallow places a trout will be located. If the fish can breath and eat in shallow water its a FISH.
Is that a frog togg rain UL rain jacket? How do you like it... how is the durability so far. I see you do some bush wacking with it on.
