Just got back from here yesterday and i am happy to report that the beach has been much improved since this was filmed. It looks like the sea washes it away from time to time and thus requires regular maintenance which has taken place. As of Feb 2024 is has been corrected and is now swimmable. I sat out on said beach every morning and drank my coffee while watching the sunrise. The only Issue remaining is the sea weed but the staff does tidy that up throughout the week as well and of my 7 days at the resort, only one day the beach was unusable due to sea weed. Anyways, rant over, this place was very very good for the money. Would return 100%.
Sunday greetings Mr James! I never stay at Wyndhams for the reasons you mentioned but I agree this looks like a nice property. The room balcony was very spacious. Pool Bingo ..yikes …you were correct to make a fast exit lol. And that beach was a tragedy for a tropical resort . All in all it seems like a decent place. Excellent work Sir 😎😎😎
Hi James, i am vary impressed with this wyndham , usually when i think of Wyndham i think of the travel lodge, i will book this hotel next time, doctor quinn loves a good mattress when i'm getting ready to be knotty!

I stayed there around 1998 or 99. The beach back then was huge and went on forever, you could walk and only see a few people, nothing but wide sandy beach... The erosion that has taken place is massive.
@@Coolist of all the resorts we’ve done the platinum Yucatan princess (budget property) has the worst beach. This one looks better than that one! We just got back from a trip to Couples tower Isle. Thank you for your great video. The problem is we always want to lay on the beach with my husband so pool won't work for us. Do your recommend somewhere else with nicer beach? Thank you
I personally am ok with that beach no problems…The food looks absolutely amazing, overall place looks really nice. Weather is always a wild card right? A very helpful review, thank you once again man, you rock.
Hey just booked the same resort , Great video and review . The only question I have is , if all the restaurants you showed cased are included on the all inclusive ? Thank you
Great work! Doing research for our trip and looking for great beaches over pool. I appreciate your honesty!! Made our decision easy. (What's your favorite beach in the Cancun/Playa del Carmen area??)
Great review! It's nice to see how they've upgraded this resort since changing hands (a couple of times now). My wife and I were there in 2007 for our honeymoon. The Italian restaurant was our favorite place to eat. We just may go back for another visit.
We stayed there a couple of years ago and had an amazing time. Unfortunately the seaweed was a big problem back then but looks like it is better now. Don't think you mentioned the little coffee shop they have which had great service and also some very nice desserts and it was a highlight for me. Nice review.. will have to see if you have done a review for Planet Hollywood as I am thinking of going there in a few weeks.
This used to be named The Gran Porto, the sister hotel of The Royal PDC (Hilton PDC now). If you were booked with The Royal, you used to have access to all the restaurant's and facilities of all the sister hotels both in Playa & Cancun.
Was looking to stay here when it was a Panama Jacks, but you hit it on the head with the beach, that's a deal breaker for me. Love your Resort Videos, keep up the great work! BTW, my daughter choose Riu Repuplica base on your review, she had a great time!
Hi James! The food looks soooooo good! 9 times outta 10 I’m just hungarian😅. The hotel is beautiful but not much to do eh? Did it have a gym? The fire show was fun to watch. The beach 🤌🏻 c’mon! It’s not a Coolist video unless you ‘cheers’ us with your drink or bop us in the nose with your receipts 😂. Cheers 🍹
Love your reviews. I looked at this place for our adult family vacation. The beach was a deal breaker for us. We booked 3 Eden suite waterview rooftops at Ocean Riviera Paradise for September. We stayed at Grand Riveira Princess last time and loved it. 1 of the best buffets I've been to. Ribeye cooked to order every day. So, No video on where you are heading? I hope you hit the Excellence. The food! Bet we ate all three entrees didn't we?! I say we because I imagine myself there, of course. Love the room (need tub) and the whole colorful ambiance. The beard lookin real good! 😎
We stayed at the Hilton next door last week. Loved it. How do you think it compares to the Hilton. We may Stay at the Wyndham next year if you like it better. The beach is way nicer at the Hilton.

Hey Coolist .. I’m thinking on going to the Wyndham Alltra in July and I am just wondering if the ala carte restaurants are limited to 3 reservations per week? I like the idea of just going for sushi in the afternoon and maybe Italian at night. Is it possible to eat ala carte every night? Also because the beach is we’ll call it a work in progress is there one near by say walking distance? Thanks in advance keep up the good work!
Hey man, I'm curious myself. Now that you've been, can we get an update on how it went for you? I am suspicious about how all inclusives advertise vs how they actually act once you're there. Example, they advertise no limits on a la carte, but then they say you only get a few reservations to work with. Also, I'm looking to do some excursions to ruins and cenotes. I've heard there shouldn't be issues getting a concierge to arrange this for you, but I also hear that if you ignore their timeshare schtick they'll act like assholes for the rest of your stay. I've never been to a place like this so I don't know what to expect honestly. I'm between resorts: xcaret, iberostar, ocean Maya Royale, barcelo, Bahia Principe... There's so many to choose from. In January if that makes any difference.
#1 Hilton vs #2 Wyndham. Across the street from each other and previously brother and sister (The Royal and The Grand). I should probably make a video on this.

I basically want this hotel but on the playacar beaches lol. I’m only coming once (from Australia) so it’s really hard to choose a hotel … where should I stay?!
I personally been staying here at the Wyndham every year since 2014. It really is a great hotel and you won’t be disappointed. Location is great. Yes, the beach sucks now, never used to be like that but the pools are nice and also, just walk like 20 yards towards the Hilton and that beach is a lot nicer. Its super close. Also, beware, there are only really 3 all inclusive hotels in the heart of playa del Carmen 5th Ave and this is one of them. The other two are the ritz and Hilton. If don’t stay at either one of these 3 hotels and you want to walk downtown 5th ave which is really nice at night, then you will be paying for a 20-25 minute or more cab ride which in my opinion would suck. The Wyndham is nice since you just walk right out the hotel a block or two and your right on 5th ave. Lots of night life on 5th and restaurants. Best restaurants and nicer quieter atmosphere would be 5th ave / 38th street street. Good luck.
About the beach, it really doesn't really matters. The beach at Playa is very large and the public beach is really cool as well. However, adding a few beachchairs is not a big deal I guess...

This hotel have major problems with the rising sea level. Look at the Google Streetview images from 3, 5 and 10 years ago there. You see large strips of beach.
