What are are the best Playa de Carmen All Inclusive Resorts? These are the six most popular hotels in Playa del Carmen.
Playa del Carmen has six crazy popular all-inclusive resorts, and I just stayed at all of them in a row for almost a month! Be careful! These hotels are so famous and popular, but that does not mean they are good choices for your next trip to the Playa Del Carmen Riviera Maya area of Mexico.
For each one of these hotels I stayed for four nights and explored and experienced almost every single thing each hotel offered. In this video, I will rank the six most popular and best hotels in Playa del Carmen from worst to first (6-1), based on the categories of luxury, food, service, choices, pools, beach, crowd, energy, room design, the landscape, service, events, drinks, intangibles, overall experience and other supporting attributes and intangibles. I just took a month and stayed at these hotels so you don't have to, which will make your Playa del Carmen hotel decision simple!

I cannot overstate how much I appreciate and value your videos. They are insightful and so on point. Highly appreciated. Much love and respect!
Yes! And he's never sponsored, which keeps the reviews 100% honest and authentic. The BEST resort review channel.
I appreciate all of your reviews! Super honest and insightful!!! 🙌🏼
As always, James, great video. I simply love, love, love your content. My favourite RUclipsr.
I stayed at another H10 property, the Ocean El Faro (El Beso) in PUJ, and enjoyed it as well (except for the beach) and thought it was an exceptional value as well!
Really like the comparison vids, thanks!
Thanks for the reviews!
Love your videos they are so helpful!
Great video as well as the other one on ORP. I would have never looked at this resort, but I'm sold!!! Booking Ocean Riviera Paradise for November 🎉
Hi James 👋
Thank you for taking the time to create such informative content.
I stayed at the Wyndham Alltra Playa Del Carmen and had a wonderful time. I liked that it was a smaller all-inclusive Resort and half the price of the Hilton, which is across the street. 😂
The location is perfect if you're interested in hitting the Bars and Clubs on 5th Ave. 😎👍
Thank you for doing this ❤
Great review James! 🛳🛳
I think you should do more Playa del Carmen videos. Please. So many hotels there. And alot of restaurants too.
I agree with your rankings for the top 3. The pool noise at number 3 would be a major drawback for me. The Hilton looked nice ... loved the room and layout. But Ocean River is nice too, especially for the price.
So happy I booked Ocean Riviera before even seeing your reviews 😎
None of these places compares to palmaia the house of aia. We just stayed there for 5 nights and it was fantastic. I love your videos James, keep up the great work 👍
Nice video! Have yo been to the new Xcaret properties: Xcaret Mexico, Xcaret Arte or Casa de la Playa? Price tag is different but we really enjoyed it!
Love your videos and your summaries of these 6 Playa del Carmen hotels. If you were taking a group of 30+ people (realtors + spouses, ages 40-60) do you think Ocean Riviera Paradise El Beso could be a decent fit? Last year, we went to Secrets Playa Mujeres but it was cold and raining. We need a warmer destination the 1st weekend of February.
I stayed at The Hilton last year and i loved it❤
Excellent video. I think your rankings are on point with the exception of No. 1 vs. 2. For any resort in Playa, to me the proximity to 5th avenue is critical. I like to be able to get off the reservation and enjoy the myriad of things going on down on 5th. So I would have the Hilton as my Number 1. That said, if you are pressed for funds, the Ocean Riviera Paradise is definitely the best value.
Thank you for giving real opinions . Often the reviews are , “everything is great”
Dead on with Sandos, we stayed there this past Feb in the adults only, worst service, buffet food was better then the restaurants. And yes they do not monitor children in that adults section. Beach was great. Thank you for your honest reviews, helps us decide where to go.
I was REALLY waiting on you to go to Mexico (Cancun/Riviera Maya/Playa del Carmen). It’s my favorite Caribbean destination. I think you may have missed out tho on some more popular resorts like Breathless Riviera Maya and Barcelo Maya Riviera. However, a hidden gem and SUPER BUDGET FRIENDLY option also is Platinum Yucatan Princess. These are all adult only resorts as well.
Well, I stayed in playa del Carmen, so none of those resorts are even applicable to this video.
Also.I have access to websites that show which resorts are the most attended annually, as well as which have the most demand. Breathless isn't in the top 30.
Like you, I used to think Breathless properties were extremely and popular sought after, but actually, statically, the data shows the opposite. They very alluring to a niche crowd only.
You are 💯 correct on Platinum Princess, and when I venture on my Riviera Maya trip, almost certainly that hotel will be included.
Also, I usually don't stay at the strictly popular hotels - quite the opposite actually; I'm more of an upscale hotel guy. This was just a unique scenario where the six most popular hotels in playa Del Carmen happened to be mostly upscale, so I tried something different for this video series.
@@Coolist completely understood, and I love it!! Pretty dope that u responded too🥰. Looking forward to more videos in MX.
@@Coolist I really enjoyed Acapulco and would be interested in your review of it. This was the original "Jet-Set" destination, where 747 & Concord jets used to fly. "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" named Acapulco's "Las Brisas" & the Dominican Republic's "Casa de Campo," the "Best Resorts in the World." You could add the "Acapulco Princess" to that list too. I stayed there, the grounds & resort are amazing!
I love your videos. Are you ever going to go to Jamaica resorts?
this is great - Tx buddy
Hi. Would like you to visit the Canary Islands, preferably Tenerife South. Please say you'll think about it. Lots of 5 star hotels you can walk for miles on the sea front.
For ocean riviera you should have mentioned that restaurants charge extra for some stuff. As well as they have a members only restaurant so unless you pay for that you won’t get the full experience. They also try and get you to buy a time share when you first walk in which kinda sucked for our visit but we loved the place other than those small things. They had bowling a live theatre and a cart that took you up and down the property!
All restaurants have premium la carte items for extra fees - a prime steak for an extra $30 instead of the standard flank steak that comes with the meal at no charge.
All major massive all inclusives offer a Basic cart service if you lack the capability and gumption to walk a 1/2 or full mile somewhere on property.
The preceding are elementary and obvious across the all inclusive genre, and I'm not going to mention implicit irrelevant details like those in every All inclusive video I do.
I refuse to do the nerdy reviews that concentrate on meaningless nuances like shuttle services, number of waste baskets, etc.
I Focus on fun, the fundamentals and standouts of the property, as well as the highlights and lowlights of the stay, which are the paramount factors influencing memories and the lasting hotel experience.
Never once was I approached for a time time share opportunity at this place, or the Wyndham which was shocking. Nor were any of the restaurants or meals an extra charge since I stayed in the El Beso adults only section). There perhaps was once exclusive lunch restaurant for the Elite club members - the premium upgrade tier level at ORP, but that is such a fringe thing to talk about even if I went to it.
After doing 50 FULL all inclusive hotel stays in less than two years, and other 50-75 hotel stays on top of that in the same time window, the one thing I learned is you can never mention everything, and if I did, the video would be unwatchable.
@@Coolist i understand maybe things have change with the time share area. We had 4 friends go to the same resort and on the besos side, and all got approached for timeshares and were not let into the resort without getting a breakdown. Luckily they were looking for married couples who lived together and none of them were 😂 I’ve watched I think 85% of your videos so I see what you mean by not mentioning the small pointless details I was just mentioning that for the people reading the comments :)
I want 90%. JK 😉. Your comment was good and I hope many read it as well my response so they understand my prerogative approaching these hotels. I'm actually contemplating getting less "reviewy " in the future - focusing more on fun and daily life - we'll see...
I Appreciate all of the hours you're committed to watching my channel, as well as the added engagement such as the comments above. I look forward to more. 😎
Have you ever stayed at the xcaret hotels they’re the onyl all inclusives I’ve been interested in because of how much is included . Would love to know your thoughts
I really like the videos. I wish you would spend a little more time on reviewing the beach and show the Beach Shade/Umbrella situation.
I’ve stayed at Paradisus in 2021. The beach didn’t have any seaweed. We saw some mini tractors cleaning the shores every evening. But again, I am not sure if it was a low seaweed season as well
I’m between three.. Riu Republica Punta Cana, Royalton Chic Cancun and El Beso Playa del Carmen. Three different cities, big decision! Which do you think will give you the overall experience out of these three! Thank you! Your videos are everything! 😊
Republica is all about the Riu Party. You want good food this isn't the place but young vide and party atmosphere nothing beats it. Royalton is a nice compromise.
Weird question but how are you staying in shape during the all inclusive experience? Not sure if it’s your audience but I’d love to see a video on that , you seem to be in better shape than when I started to watch you ?!
Hi, I'm planning to go to barcelo Maya beach resort. Is there any concerns I need to know?
Finally!!!
Have you stayed at live aqua punta Cana?
If so can you make a video or write a quick review?
The reef coco beach was great. Was in a nicer part of town, great beach and nice place.
What do you say about the Iberostar Quetzal?
Hi buddy been watching all your videos there great thank you can you recommend a family hotel in august for me family of 4 two girls late teens thank you
I so want to visit Playa del Carmen
Great video but I would ALWAYS choose a property in Playacar simply because the beaches in Playacar are 1000% better than the city beaches, bar none. I've stayed at several in Playacar most recently the Riu Palace Mexico, loved it and yes, evenings are a little quiet, certainly not depressing as you say but you're across the street from the Riu party hotel The Tequila, which is always hopping. Regardless I would always choose a Riu for the exchange privileges with 5 Riu Playacar properties, keeps it fresh every day and each hotel has a different vibe.
You nailed it -I couldn’t have stated it better! We’ve stayed at the Riu tequila and Riu Yucatan multiple times and always come back because of all things you listed: Best beach, a variety of resorts explore (Playacar, Yucatan and tequila) -I’ve looked high and low and never found a better location than the Riu’s located in the Playacar. Staying at the Riu palace peninsula with the Riu caribe next door is a close 2nd (In Cancun).
@@matthewjohnson1211 Awesome, I try those one day in Cancun. Same scenario in Cabo, recently stayed and the brand new Riu Palace Baja California, was amazing and a much more modern style for the 'palace' category. You have the use of the Riu Santa Fe and the other Riu Palac,e both next door. Must say tho, beaches suck in Cabo.
@@ellisonketovore Yeah Cabo’s beaches look to be a definite negative which has always deterred me. The newest Riu’s seem to be adopting a more “muted” modern design vibe over the pink and purple “Miami vice” look! When we first discovered Riu -they had a real authentic “Mexico” feel (think palace puerto Vallarta or Cancun Las Americanas). My wife and I much preferred this…but, excepted the changes for the fun Riu atmosphere and great locations!
@@matthewjohnson1211 I also remember the 'Mexico look' stayed at the Riu Palace Rivera Maya when it was only a couple of years old and it had the pre-Miami Vice look. You'd love the new look re: Riu Palace Baja California, no more Miami Vice just super fresh and modern with the common areas incorporating a little boho-chic Tulum vibe.
@@ellisonketovore Wow…just checked out your Cabo palace and man….that looks amazing! You’re right about the look being “modern mexican”. Hmmm…we were considering the new Riu Kukulcan Cancun for oct -but might have to throw Cabo into the mix! Thanks!
Any thoughts on impressions by secrets?
These places are beautiful but I am so terrified of traveling to Mexico after the cops were trying to arrest me for speeding when I was driving 15mph. My pops gave them 20 bucks and they let me go. Have fun ya’ll
they intimidated you and you fell for it. Arrest ? next time tell them you want to see the judge. That usually cuts them off at the pass. Standard operating procedure for Mexico. If you can’t handle that. Uber or taxi everywhere. Make sure their legit so you don’t get scammed or worse yet kidnapped
@@bbustin1747hi! How do you know a
If the taxis at legit? Are they a certain colour of have a sign on them?
My brother in law went down the Cancun three years ago. His fiance was hit by a cab while walking across the street. The driver was drunk and the hospital was horribe. The police did nothing and their lawyer told them they are pressured not to report things like this because it's bad for tourism. Each cab is individually owned, the driver had no insurance the police said they were sorry and will take care of the driver. Luckily my future sister in law's leg wasn't broken and they bought some painkillers at a pharmacy there and saw an American doctor when they got back Don't think they are going back anytime soon. Maybe Playa del Carmen is better.
@@bbustin1747 I fell for it? Cops do whatever they want over there. I’ve had friends get robbed by cops multiple times. I have no rights in Mexico. And how would I know which taxi/Uber is legit. Dumb comment
@@KatmanJazznBlues glad your sister in law was okay. I will never go to Mexico again.
Are you doing a ranking for Cancun?
Is the Melia worth the extra costs compared to Iberostar Paraiso Beach in your opinion?
dude your negative reviews still sound like positive ones... thx !! lol
Sad to see that Paradisus rank so low (or that is only has 1pool). My favorite all-inclusive I've been to was Paradisus Punta Cana (Royal Service) but it is closed for reno.
Im surprised Playacar Palace is not mentioned in this video
I think the rankings are also a little skewed on importance based on this reviewers preference. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, because we all have our own scale. I would rate the beach as far more important than the pools. While great pools are important, if the beach is crappy it doesn't matter. The RIU Palace Mexico pools don't seem as grand, but that beach more than makes up for it. You still get a decently sized swim up bar and have activity pools so it's not exactly horrible, but it would be better if it was more grand. The Wyndham may have great pools, but that beach is horrible, far more of a negative in comparison to the negative aspect of the RIU Palace Mexico pools. The beach alone makes the Wyndham #6, because the idea of flying all the way to the Caribbean is for the amazing beaches and water. I also wish service was more of a factor in the ratings. If you have staff not keeping the beach or other areas clean, that's a big factor. Which property is maintained meticulously? Which resort had the best service as far as always having a waiter/waitress there to offer a drink or service? Are you always having to chase someone down? Which seemed to go the extra step to serve you? I have been to RIU Palace Riviera Maya/Las Americas/Peninsula, and the service/friendliness has always been excellent. They remember what drinks you like, where on the beach you sit and wave you down for chairs when they see you, get you whatever you need. Be friendly, respectful, and show appreciation with a little tip, and they make your vacation unforgettable. I wish the reviewer spent more time comparing that, that would be a huge factor. Great beach, great service, great drinks, great food, pools, cleanliness, and liveliness should all factor. We will be at RIU Palace Mexico in a month, first time at that resort, and hopefully it's a little livelier now.
Absolutely! Agree 100%
I enjoyed the Thompson
Do you think singles resorts are worth it, considering they're so much more expensive? Me and my friend were hoping to meet other cool singles when we went to Playa in October and it was all kids with their families or couples. Was a little disappointing, you know a fling on Vacation would have been great fun. We still had a great time though. Personally I would choose the Hilton as #1 on your list because for me I'm paying for the beach. :p and the fact that it's quiet after 10pm, you won't be disturbed if you're tired and want to sleep.
Sweet, can't wait to go to Ocean Riviera in Sept. You should hit the Grand Riviera Princess resort in Playa del Carmen. It was by far the best buffet I have ever had. You could pick a raw ribeye and have it cooked. crazy good. Its looks to be similar to Ocean Riviera not the fanciest but still a solid stay.
Why you don’t review the best of playa del Carmen , Thompson hotel and grand Hyatt?
What's five rivers like I ve booked ne t week
Did you ever stay at Hotel Xcaret yet? If so how was it?
What’s the best all inclusive , party hotel in playa del Carmen / near Tulum ?
I haven't been to enough to say, but Royalton Chic would be my go to. The cheaper, younger-crowd hotels have a party vibe too. I hear Temptations is fun, if that is your thing
Grand Hyatt not in top 5? That's were I'm staying next week of course lol
i have been watching you for over month i love your site we just came back from Cancun Royalton chic we like luxury but want party atmosphere chic had a good party but food was junk and pools was ice cold im trying to take 5-7 more trips this year do you no any resorts that are a really good party like riu but are luxury im open to anywhere that has beach I'm ok with higher prices thanks
Is Xcaret hotel popular?
Best Resort you will EVER see, period.
Xcaret has a theme park kind of vibe! If you like that kind of thing
Stayed there for 6 days a couple of months ago and I loved every moment of it! Hated leaving that place. The resort is beyond beautiful with art everywhere and really good food with a lot of options for dining in. Also, like someone else said, if you're an active person, all of their parks (I think there's 6 or 7 of them) are included in the price of your stay, had a lot of fun there. Definitely check it out, you will not be disappointed.
@@redhoodgameplay3778na
The Hilton should have been #1 but I respect his preference.
Completely agree about Paradisus. The resort is beautiful, our room was great, but almost everything else was subpar. Most disappointing resort I've been to, because it really is beautiful and gets your hopes up.
Which one for a solo male 40’s traveller?
looking forward to the new ocean paradise riviera
I stayed at sandos and did not love it. I didn't like that a trolley was needed to get from the rooms to the restaurants and beach. Also, didnt care for the food.
Where to next?
Anybody went to Azul Cancun?
Xcaret is the best!
I just left the Hilton June 2023 and it no longer has a beach.
What do you mean? I’ve booked an ocean view room in June. I need to know so I can cancel!
@@TSBOFRLM the water was pretty much near the hotel. No where to lay out at on the beach
I can't believe no one is mentioning Iberostar
👍
Xcaret arte?
Star ratings are based on amenities. They aren't, opinion based, they are facts. Does the property have a spa? Yes? 1 star. Does the property have more than one pool, another star. You get the idea. So when you talk about a property being a FIVE STAR, its about the amenities it provides. More than one restaurant, check...another star. So when you say it says its a FIVE STAR, but its not, yes it likely is. Because stars are based on the amenities a resort offers, BUT NOT, the quality of those same services.
Go to other places beside a Vegas and cancun love your videos but it’s getting old same 2 destinations 90%
Best hotels are in these areas in close vacinity. He usually stays few nights in each hotel and usually these hotels are next to each other. There aren't many places in the Caribbean with 5 star hotels in close vacinity.
@@absheat747 ya I get that what I’m Shang is this is basically a Vegas and Cancun hotel channel and has no diversity content is good it just got old for me same destinations always
Hilton properties are not long stay properties
6. Sandos Playa Car: Ranked lowest due to overwhelming size, lack of personality, and disappointing amenities despite good beach and nature aspects.
5. Ryu Palace Mexico: Beautiful property with luxury components, but disappointing pools and lack of entertainment options.
4. Wyndham: Stunning for a Wyndham, excellent food, and great location, but felt small and had a disappointing beach.
3. Paradisus La Perla: Beautiful property set in a mangrove forest, but loud pool area and inconsistent beach maintenance.
2. Hilton Playa Del Carmen: Jaw-dropping property with modern amenities, but small and lacking nightlife.
1. Ocean Riviera Paradise: Surprisingly ranked the best overall due to spacious rooms, great value for money, and good food despite a narrow beach and seaweed issues.
Great that you set Riu Palace Mexico on nr. 5 on your list. So we, European people, got the nice beach for ourself and not having to deal with that horrible animated/fake American pool parties with all the OMGs thrown in.
I'm European, and I wouldn't touch RIU for free, sorry.
U losin weight bro
Are you going to, or have you, ever done reviews of the more naughty adult resorts, such as Hedonism 2? Answer only if it doesn’t make your face red.
Theses hotels are for degenerates
I’m between three.. Riu Republica Punta Cana, Royalton Chic Cancun and El Beso Playa del Carmen. Three different cities, big decision! Which do you think will give you the overall experience out of these three! Thank you! Your videos are everything! 😊
We stayed at Riu Rep a few months back, if you want to party it's the place. Haven't been to chic but it's the most upscale of your choices. We are going to Ocean Riviera (Eden side) in Sept. I read Eden was better than El Beso side IDK
