Thanks for the overview I could listen to when I didn’t have time to read it.

Excellent recap, I'd love to see more of these tutorials.

The Russo-European war as the catalyst of global destruction huh? This hits too close to home in 2022. Great vid on SWN btw, wish I found this vid sooner.

Haha, no joke. I have combed through my RUclips channel getting rid of some older videos to prepare to upload some newer content, and a SWN game is on the docket. Much like Shadowrun, I find it helps GMs and players get into the headspace of the game by understanding its setting.

Thanks for making this video. I'm looking forward to GMing a SWN campaign soon, and your video gave me a better grasp on the setting.

This also applies to the Revised edition, and honestly the setting is the hardest curve for some of the newer GMs to the system. It's like playing Fallout and not knowing about the Great War or who built the vaults, etc.

I would prefer this video without the background music, but it's really helpful anyway. I love SWN story, it's simple, exciting and 'realistic' if you're allowed to use that word for a sci-fi game!

That is one thing I have learned over the years, back when I started, ambient music seemed necessary, but since I have been streaming I have learned there are times for it, and times when it should be left out.

AWESOME - I am currently waiting on the delivery of the book. I'm curious if you have any advice for system/map creation ... any programs/software etc.

Sorry I missed this comment! I basically downloaded a hex grid, and then made it a PNG. I made the color of the hex grid blue, and then applied an inside and outside glow so that it looked like a HUD. From there, I rolled on how many systems I had, and what types of stars they were. Each could have multiple worlds.
Then I researched what each of the types of stars look like in real life, and made some spheres giving them noise so they look like they were made of fire. Changed the color and the glow based on what class of star they were. Named the systems, and placed the names underneath the sectors.
For me I use photoshop, but the same effect can be used with GIMP although the techniques to achieve the same effects can take a few more steps or are done with different methods.

    good video.
Is this the only one in the series? I was hoping to learn to GM a Stars Without Number game. I've mostly made a sector for it, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to balance encounters. The book is kind of confusing on how it says to do it.

AncapFTW I am glad to have you post here. And no it is not. I am actually getting ready to post the episodes for the campaign with the GM tutorial videos posting in between. Sadly one of the original players had a rough time this year, and I had to find a new group.
The next one up is sector creation, explaining spike drive travel between the sectors, and how communications work.
The following videos will cover character creation, combat, and faction creation/faction turns.
