Bravo!!!👏👏👏 you nailed each tip on the head! Went through all those things and still married 4 years later 😂one thing I took away from my marriage so far is always remember to put God first, your partner can never give you what God can, so don't put that pressure on them to "complete" you or be responsible for your happiness! Dont put anyone before your duty to Allah (swt) ❤

My husband and I just celebrated 21 years of marriage. We were HS sweethearts. Got married at 17 and next year we will be renewing our vows. These tips are on point. We have loved and hated each other. We have had our ups and downs and I feel people need to understand you will not always be IN LOVE with your partner. Sometimes your going to need to work on it and always fall in love again with your partner. I feel people are so quick to divorce when they feel their relationship got cold. A relationship is like a plant, of you don’t water it, show love and gratitude for it then little by little that plant will wilt. And that’s where it gets dangerous. Guys will look for what they don’t have in the street and vice-versa. It’s not easy but you can last forever with your sweetheart. Also, speak to those older people in your life that have been married forever. They are the best advice. Never take advice from that party friend who changes men like they change panties. You can love them but please don’t take relationship advice from them. Great tips Leena 👏🥂✨💗

Amazing. Yes we hate and love our partner. Sometimes I don’t feel like even looking at his face but it does not mean that the moment will stay forever. Feelings will change and we always come back to each other, we stand by one another and we care for each other. plant imagery explains the relationship very well!! Loving your post !

These are great tips. I would also include how important it is to grow spiritually with your husband - take a class together, learn from the same teacher, read a book together, do acts of worship together. A shaykh once told us that you want “a partner who will drag you to Jannah (Paradise).” The implication being that Jannah isn’t easy to attain and sometimes we lag and get lazy and resistant, so we need partners who will encourage and motivate us on towards our religious goals. You won’t necessarily grow at the same pace (you’re two different souls after all), but you def want to grow in the same direction. As someone who will have been married 30 years in 2023, insha’Allah, it makes me soooo happy to see someone so young (Leena!) who already has this much wisdom and emotional intelligence 5 years in, masha’Allah. Tawfiq, insha’Allah!

I've been married for nine years and everything you said I agree with 100%! My husband is the same way about needing to be told to do everything, not taking initiative. This was difficult for me to get used to because I felt like I was nagging him, but he doesn't mind AT ALL. And you know, he gets stuff done! So it really is a win for both of us like you said. I just needed to accept that he needed to be reminded and all was well.

I’ve been married over 22 years, the one key thing is to communicate, respect each other, be transparent about finances and make time for each other. Remember, your children will eventually grow up and leave the nest. No marriage is prefect.

  • @khellege

I’ll be married for 9 years in April and I can confirm that at least my limited experience all of this is very true and accurate. Especially the not talking bad about your husband. Ladies, I’ve been there and I wish I could take it back. Especially as Muslims we need to keep disagreements and negative things in our relationship private and work it out among ourselves. Respecting our husbands by not airing our dirty laundry is a virtue in Islam. Of course I am not talking about major issues that you may want to consult a sheikh or trusted family member about but for most things this is absolutely true. Also, yes RESPECT isn’t only for Aretha! Men crave respect just like women crave love. This is something that needs to be maintained and again that’s something there is plenty of advice for in Islam.

Loved this! I’ve been married for 3 years and all of this resonates along with my own personal lessons.
    1) a man will mirror your emotion
    2) “have fun” 😉 even when you don’t want to
    3) it’s okay if you make more money than him. He’ll actually be relieved
    4) communicate EVERYTHING

It's actually very interesting about comparing your marriage to your parents. My parents had a terrible marriage and got divorced when I was 15 so I always felt that I wasn't able to learn anything from them about marriage. But I realized from talking to a friend who's parents literally have a perfect marriage that she didn't feel she learned from them either because she never got to see compromise action or learn how to fight respectfully etc. So truly, you can't even compare to your own parents' marriage.

Loved all the tips, on my 7th year now and learnt all of this along the way :). All of the points are very relatable and accurate! I think one other really important piece is pushing for your own personal space as a couple. If there's a lot of interference or social distractions from either the wife or husband's side it can become a problem over time, so prioritize your personal space and time as a couple.

Fantastic tips for anyone of any age! The respect piece is huge, it shows that you’re a loving and caring friend when you make space for your partner to talk about they care about. I feel like society makes us want to challenge and argue and have strong opinions but sometimes it’s good just to relax and listen and let someone go off about what they’re passionate about. Showing that you care about the person first and foremost will build a strong bond

Married for about 2 years now Alhamdulillah. I agree with all of these tips. The one thing you mentioned about not comparing your marriage to other couples stood out the most for me. The first year of marriage, I struggled so much and went through mental disasters lol. I would always compare my marriage to other couples and felt like I was lacking and my marriage is falling apart. I had to stop comparing in order to move forward in the marriage. Once I focused on us and my husband, I stated seeing that my husband was the best for me and started to grow love towards him.

So true!!! 3 year anniversary coming up and the best advice I got is whenever there is conflict that you both cannot resolve you go to someone you both trust and respect, for me that's a religious leader that we both agreed upon prior to marriage. You go to them so that they can mediate as well as resolve any miscommunication while keeping your matters private

Wife tip I would give : communication and no quick assumptions 😂

Everything you said is just so true. Been together 3 years now and we (mainly I) grew so much in terms of communication, spending time apart and so on. I learned that time he sepnds with his buddys don't mean that he doesn't enjoy time with me. He just needs to have time alone, which is completely fine. Also love your tip about the love languages. We're still figuring out what ours are and how we can show each other the love we want to receive.

It’s funny with the needing space. Between my husband and I; I definitely need space. That was super hard for my husband to learn to accept that when I needed time to myself it wasn’t because I was upset or didn’t love him, but because it’s something I intrinsically need to be mentally healthy.

Great tips, well done Leena 👍🏻 I would also add that you shouldn't decide or judge anything about your significant other during the first year (unless there's abuse or something really bad). Especially us Muslim's the first year is usually the first years for both parties moving out of their family homes so they're sort of 'off-balance' and not themselves at all. If your spouse seems grumpy or whatever, wait a year and see. I bet he'll be much better.

Leena... I must appreciate your wisdom, we already know almost everything what you mentioned but you actually gave words to the thoughts and you explained them very well. Previously you did same kind of video and literally I watched it for many times and stopped nagging around my hubby... Lol 😁
Anyway thanks for being an inspiration for us... Love u❤️

This was a really great video! Thank you for making it and thank you for the honesty. I look forward to seeing many more ‘advice’ videos like this and how to romanticize your day video. Love to hear more from a mum perspective too and any real life practical advise. Thanks. May Allah bless you

Totally agree with you and it was an amazing talk, please try to post videos related to mental health, how to handle life situations and focusing on relationships of any kind it's either friendship, family, love or anything as these are the main topics we don't really talk about anymore in our society for some reason it is thought that mental health or our environment doesn't play a role in our life.❤️❤️❤️

Such valuable realistic advice. Very much needed. I think alot of people have unrealistic expectations in marriage. Its not a romantic fairytale…its about patience, communication, give and take. There are amazing highs in marriage of course which make it all worth it.
