    About Us.
Byther Farm is a small organic homestead, being designed and managed using permaculture practices. We aim for self-sufficiency in fruit and vegetables for increased self reliance and better resilience to the modern world. I recognise that we are unlikely to be truly self sufficient, but do the best we can. I share our home with my loving husband, Mr J and our cat, Monty.
We are a fifty-something couple who live on a smallholding in Carmarthenshire, Wales. We are going green and creating a gentler, cleaner and more healthy life for our family.
Having had a highly successful smallholding in Monmouthshire, we hope to recreate the abundance at our new home. There will be a large organic kitchen garden with no dig gardening raised beds and young food forest in which to grown our fruit and vegetables.
We keep a few sheep and Aylesbury ducks.
    Music from Epidemic Sound.

What a dream to be able to harvest tubers all through the winter . You have planned it so well. Here in Stockholm the ground is frozen solid now. ❄

Amazing👏! Harvesting vegetables in winter is quite challenging. The cold and wet conditions make it difficult to work on the soil, and the crops could be damaged due to freezing temperatures if not harvested on time. Great video! Thanks!

I did so well with carrots this season growing smaller carrots in containers and my sweet candle in beds which should keep me in carrots until March, they are well protected by insulating with coco coir and covering with plastic. Lovely update my friend's.
    ♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.

I enjoy having winter garden work and winter harvests too! My pernicious weeds get thrown to the chickens who are enthusiastic composters.

It really is very exciting digging for root veg and tubers - it's a bit like treasure hunting - never quite know what you'll get! Thanks for sharing Liz!!

That's it exactly! I was disappointed not to have any parsnips this year (first time ever of not having any in the garden), but there's always next year!

@@LizZorab When you do get some growing leave some to go to seed and spread volunteers around - thats the only reason why I've got loads of parsnips to enjoy at the moment!!

The Welsh onion is such a very pretty plant, I love the reddish pink bulbs with the bright green leaves! You harvest so much even in winter, way to go!

I'm pleased to hear that I'm not the only Carmarthen gardener who had a lousy time of growing carrots this year, Liz! 😧 3 sowings were all eaten by an unknown predator in different locations. Same with my onions!!

I am going to get busy canning up more homemade applesauce. I bought some more apples at a very good price, and my whole family just loves my homemade applesauce, especially my little grandson!🥰🍎

Could not find the link but the video that did come up your January seed sowing video (2019) was one of the first videos we watch of your channel and was part of the inspiration that started the 'we need to grow our own veg.'

Hi Liz I was in South Wales 10 days ago it was frosty for the first few days of my stay. We had some rain too but on the days I went shopping in Barry fortunately it was dry. I am back here in Cyprus where it is a lot warmer but we have also had 2 down pours of rain in the last week quickly followed by lovely sunshine. The sea is still around 20c and nice for swimming. Thanks for your lovely video

It may be December, but I've noticed cabbage white caterpillars on my sprout plants. (South Oxfordshire.) So maybe you have some too?

I lost my winter vegetables when four feet of water and sewage washed across my garden in October, things are still growing but we wont be eating them.
