He should be authoring books on his such intricate thinking. Great man and please come back to Coke Studio Pakistan. Easily one of the best sessions you will ever see. Thank you Harvard. The entire subcontinent is blessed to have Rohail's presence on its music scene. His sensibilities and understanding of music, universe and the singularity of the two oozes out of his work.

+Roh wit , Hey yo .. we meet again old friend (if you remember me from the malang party comment thread):D :D
I felt I was just "nudged by the universe" to this video.. dunno how, dunno why.. but watching the first 40 minutes GAVE ME SO MANY ANSWERS i've been seeking on my spiritual journey. I've been playing the guitar for 5 odd years playing altered tunings, influenced by artists like Andy Mckee, DOn ross, But my approach towards string theory will never be the same i guess. Awakened a bit today

I have always revered Rohai Hyatt. He understands everything about things which I do not understand - both, at a musical level and zooming out, at a sound and spiritual level. I feel he is much more than a prodigy. As an Indian, I draw parallels between him and AR Rehman. Thoroughly enjoyed this talk. All I can do (as I said to myself) was to strive to absorb at least a small portion of the profound knowledge which he shared. And even that would suffice to make us significantly better individuals and significantly better listeners and 'appreciators' of music. Hats off Sir!!

He is more of a philosopher than just musician. I hardly believe there is a second person in the whole planet like him who is so knowledgable, so enlighten, so complete and light years ahead of his time specially in the era of loud & shout music (noise); yet so humble & genuine. I used to wonder, how I am connecting to something so well while i don't understood a single word at times. Now i know, it's not just music, it's magic. It's nature, we are nature, nature was always there but somehow we managed to disconnect ourselves from us. Your sound is just breezing the gap again & again. May God bless you The Living Legend; and always keep you in good health. Can't thank you enough for anything & everything; for your magic in the name of music.

    • @PGuj

@Life's Good oh c'mon...is that how well you understand music?...BTW the songs that you say were “copied”...RD made them so much better in every way...so much so that even the original creators would be proud of the outcome. Having said that, not everyone can understand musical nuances and not everyone needs to be musically literate...so clearly can't expect that from you. Btw, the video is about Rohail Hyatt and if you were to ask his opinion of RD, I'm pretty sure that he himself holds RD in very high regard like many of his contemporaries do. So my humble advise to you although you haven't asked for it, keep shut about stuff that you understand and enjoy the damn video. Nincompoop.

    • @PGuj
      @PGuj 5 лет назад +1

@Life's Good LOL...seriously man! what makes you think I haven't heard the greats like Illayaraja & AR Rehman ...let me add a few more to the list for your own good Ousepaachan , Harris Jayraj, Devi Sri Prasad etc. all well known south indian composers who I've keenly heard and enjoyed listening to...I could list some more but hopefully you got my point.
Have you ever heard the intricate basslines of Tony Vaz and Charanjeet Singh, the orchestration and saxophone of Manohari Singh , the rhythmic arrangement of Marutirao Keer, Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia and Pt.Ronu Mazumdar's flute playing in RD's songs? These were/are accomplished musicians who were a part of RD's core team . And Guess what! ...they also played for many great composers from the south on many occasions including the one's you've listed. Have you ever even paid attention to how beautifully RD harmonized his songs? He was a seasoned classical musician himself. Maybe that's the reason why Gulzar saab always had the best of his songs given to RD to compose. But seems like none of this is ever going to make any sense to you so I'll leave it at that.

Some people are different than others, and you know that just by listening to them.
As a science student, a music lover, a spiritual enthusiast, a history buff, a personality analyzer and learner in general, these one and a half hours have enriched me way beyond I could have imagined prior to this experience.
At some points, I may have thought him to be stupid and may have not got his reasoning clearly, but eventually, I must say that this guy is beyond the average human psychology.
I love how he spent a lot of time experiencing these things instead of just speaking them without much pondering, he well and truly has created the best show for the lovers of music.
I welcome Rohail Hyatt to produce Coke Studio once again in its twelfth season, I honestly believe that what was lost would be brought back and things will turn to more legendary from now onwards.

I found Dr. Ali Asani's political views and comments on the ideology of Pakistan failing or succeeding are somewhat irrelevant to Rohail Hyatt's contribution to the music traditions of the sub continent. His question was more of a comment. Perhaps in future postings his introductions and questions could be edited to be shorter to keep the focus on the guest and the message of the guest.

What an articulate man. I am in awe of his ability to capture the unseen world, which is what makes him special. Especially the point about the 5th note, the devil's third - his story about healing at a cellular level @20:50

Having lived in South Asia, I can understand most of what Hyatt is saying. The point at the 1:13:35 minute mark sums it up pretty nicely. "The important thing is to realize that you are not going to change the world around you. But the one thing you can change, is yourself."

The most interesting talk on music in awhile! Great to hear The Recluse Rohail speak in words (instead of through music). Soul is replenished with natural music and agonized with noisy music, no matter how much one likes current sounds.

Wow just wow.. One of the best interviews ever. Loved his take on God, Music, Nature. I am just awestruck tbh. I have been his huge fan but after this interview i can call myself his follower. Love his thoughts Love how he thinks and perceives the world. Love his productions but as a person i love and respect him even more. Rohail dude you are an inspiration.

Quite mesmerised by his conversation about frequencies, and how the human ear can communicate with the sound waves.
Putting something together in a single moment, he his not just a captivating, but analysing a deep philosophical approach to music.

Absolutely Brilliant!!! I don't comment on youtube videos but this one was phenomenal. No wonder he is Maestero Composer!! Loved his composition in Coke Studio and now it all makes sense. A lot of stuff he said we realize everyday but don't really grasp the science behind. Very deep insightful talk. One of the best 90 minutes I spent on RUclips!!

Rohail used to be in Vital Signs when I moved to the US in 1989 to study engineering and got exposed to Modern Physics at some point. Today is the first time I am hearing from him or of him again. The extremely strange thing is how he is using Quantum Physics, duality of nature and way at the end he thinks of God ... well for many years, actually decades I have been doing that also and almost exactly with same understanding. Reality is certainly stranger than fiction. I really wonder how many people on their own, alone have started to do these thought experiments with similar understanding as results. Usually you would never talk about these things in detail to anyone

      Pure math.
For. Real! I haven't found ONE Astro System that follows the sky the way it's actually showing up. No one is looking at the freaking sky anymore. They are all consulting time-tables and schedules and charts. It's all very nice to have systems, but imagine if we tried to plant crops that way or if women were to insist that they were having their Moon, when they very clearly were NOT, and just ignoring the facts of the matter!
So, I've had to just leave all the systems behind and start my own that is actually "grounded" in the actual SKY!
If we could start over knowing that we're not the center of the Universe, we might be able to see some interesting things.

#RohailHyyat, I respected you before as well but after listening to this interview, I'm overwhelmed. I now know why Coke Studio 🎙 was so much impactful when you produced it. The theory of the natural tunes and frequencies are an eye opener. I never thought you might be so open to such topics and may have spent so much time to study this. Hat's off. I wished to meet you in person before but now I hope I could do it soon.

Thank you for posting this fascinating talk by Rohail Hyatt-I love listening to Coke Studio; it’s absolute soul food, and his story of spending a year listening to music that uses an alternative tuning is amazing. I wish he would have explained more about this music-was it tuned lower than 440 or based on different scales, or maybe both? His experience echoes studies about “harmonious” music having positive impacts on plants. I would like to point out one item he mentioned that was not quite correct. The dissonant “devil’s” interval is not the “devil’s third” as he called it-it is not a third but the augmented fourth or diminished fifth, which sounds dissonant, but as he said, less so as we become accustomed to it over time. This interval is called the “devil’s interval” or “tritone.” Maybe he was confusing the “third” with the term “tritone,” which means an interval made of three whole tones.
