I always thought Monét had an accent that I couldn't quite place. Finding out more about her, it made sense. The spare/spear argument had me in tears. You can tell she genuinely doesn't hear the difference. It's cute.

being haitian-american i LOVE these clips so much, i 100000% get when monet says that st. lucian accents aren't very distinctive and are hard to imitate because it's the same with haitian accents, i love doing accents but i could never do a haitian accent in a million years even though it's in my ears all day every day. she's nothing short of correct when she says the only extremely distinctive caribbean accents are bajan, jamaican, and trinny

Monet has an accent and I think the lack of rhotic-ness with words ending in "r" really makes her accent when saying words like bear and ear really strong.

I’ve watched so many of these BTDQ and MXC clips. I love them. But what I’m particularly loving is Monet has my grandfather’s birthday and Bob was born 2 weeks before I was. You guys have the same interactions I had with my grandfather. Sometimes I was the mom to everyone even my own family members. Sometimes one of us was teasing the other mercilessly. Sometimes there was all love and support. It’s just wonderful to watch. Thank you, Queens ❤

So I (a Canadian living in Canada) went to school with a guy who’s now a famous actor in Pakistan. He grew up in Canada, so obviously when we were in high school, he had a Canadian accent. Not even a twinge of a Pakistani accent.
When he made it big in Pakistan and did English interviews, I noticed he had a THICK Pakistani accent. But when he comes back to Canada, poof! It’s gone!
It’s just that he’s speaking different dialects of English. When he’s in Pakistan and needs to use English, he uses it the way Pakistanis use it. And when he’s in Canada, he uses it the way Canadians use it.
I imagine it’s the same with Monet.

It's called being bidialectical! It's very common for people who grew up in two places. Monet sounds identifiably Brooklyn most of the time, but of course she's gonna sound Saint Lucian around family and other people from there, even without realizing it.
