I was so stressed out researching different fingering methods (osawa-style vs taiwanese, etc.etc.) and then disovered in addition to that, that there are various ways to play F# on different ocarinas which varies by manufacturer as well. Soooo many variations made me so uncomfortable as I frantically searched for my own preferences and tried to learn as much as I could while emailing back and forth with Mr. Kuolong Pan (craftsman of Takashi ocarinas). It was 4 AM yesterday and I sat here, eyes bloodshot, while researching and trying to meet the deadline for preferences before he made my ocarina... and I come to the part about "Or just buy them all... with your Monopoly monies" and I just lost it. It was my breaking point. I had been so stressed trying to make sure I'd get my ocarina to be perfectly tailored to me, and when I got to that point I started laughing uncontrollably. I can't wait to join the Oc community lol.
The confusion of all the fingurings is why I just went with 6 hole pendant. It is limited, but I only have to learn once, and for all. I have 40 songs in my library, and 4 committed to memory. I only play for myself, and that is good enough for me. If you want to win all the time,,, only play the games that you can win all the time.
I showed a friend of mine Freckled Zelda's America's Got Talent interview recently. It was the first time I'd seen it in a while, and was actually really happy to notice she was playing a multi-chamber ocarina. I promptly pointed this out to my friend, who instantly said she was surprised I didn't want one. The thing is... I *do* want one... but as a beginner to ocarinas -and playing music in general- I know that I don't have anywhere near the skill to play such a beautiful instrument. So if I did get one now, it would be a waste of money and collect dust on a shelf until I'd have the skill to play it
Perhaps a discussion on how the material affects the quality of sound? Like how a wooden Budrio may differ in sound from a same-octave porcelain/ceramic Focalink, or something like that? Or maybe advice on playing songs by ear, since I have trouble with that XD
or just ocarina sounds by maker/type. for example, focalink has several different dolce models (A+B, i think) and a forte model, and it would be interesting to see how they relate to each other and, say, STL ocarinas and Mountain ocarinas
im getting triple to start, and plan on using it as a 12 hole then a double then a triple over time, so that i dont have to spend extra money for each of them
I was looking at getting a triple ocarina, but for my first multi-chamber, I got the harmony double inline ocarina from Charlie Hind. It's a great instrument and I really enjoy it.
Hi David, and thanks! My daughters bought me a double ocarina, and having never played an ocarina of any kind before I was lost. This helps thanks again.
I'm good with any topic, to be honest. But I would like to see how to do vibrato, how to speed up how fast you can perform articulation, and how to make your fingers faster at getting to the notes. Thank you so much for making videos!
Ah! ha! That darn F# explained on the double! Got a pendant 6 hole ocarina for my birthday in Feb, and Loved it! So, went Strait to a double (for extended range purposes). Have now purchased a 12 hole because, at this point, the double is Way beyond my ability! Figuring out that F# was one of the problems. (No fingering chart came with my double, so learning to play it by watching your videos!) I do have previous experience playing other types of wind instruments, so learning breath control and learning to play songs (Not the ones in the book that came it) was Very easy for me on the pendant.
I love my double from STL. It is a bit difficult to play though, which is why I'm excited for your videos coming up on how to improve on doubles and triples specifically.
I'm so glad this video was made and OcTalk is back! I went ahead and bought the songbird double OoT because I don't have the funds to buy the 12 hole and then turn around and buy a double because college life isn't cheap. But I'm having a hard time when It comes to chamber switching. Can't wait for your future videos!
I know what I'm asking for for Christmas XD This was fascinating. I've been having a blast with my 10 hole ceramic ocarina, and had no idea there were more notes available on different ones! Super cool, thank you!
Great to see vids again - we had a great time meeting you at the Nashville comic con - I had a great time taking a vid of u playing and beat boxing super mario theme with my buddy Nick - I hope you got to finish out your year on a positive note - If you ever get back to music city let us know. it would be great to see you perform live. There are plenty of venues for it. You are a natural instructor - keep up the good work.
Thanks for this video. I was debating on whether to get the double ocarina (one of the Zelda replicas) or get the double harmony ocarina. Now I know which one I plan to get (the Double ocarina-not the double harmony ocarina). I also saw your video when you played the my neighbor totoro and you did a great job on it. Keep up the great work.
I just recently got a double chamber pendant ocarina. It’s so exciting to use it. However, I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t any notes to learn it (I understand since it’s fairly new). I hope to catch on to it soon
Having played and acquainted myself with a 12 hole ocarina, would it be better to upgrade to a double or triple ocarina? I want to play songs with extended ranges, so maybe the triple, but I'm not sure if it's overkill and I've never used a double.
Hi David. Just received my first ocarina from Songbird. Having fun with it. Id like to see a video on finger exercise's, that would be handy. Thanks for being a true inspiration!!!!! I hope one day I can play as well as you!
This was super informative. Right now I just have a small 6 hole Hylian shield shaped ocarina. I bought it because it looked neat and was inexpensive. I wanted to see if I actually liked the instrument. Turns out it's really fun. It might be a while before I decide on what to get. Your videos are really helping me learn about different types of ocarinas. Do you have an ocarina that is your absolute favorite to play?
Hi, I noticed that on the Focalink Stein double ocarina, it just says AC on the top of the ocarina, and not a signature (at 5:24). When I google Focalink Stein ocarina, it has a signature on all of them. My ocarina which arrived this week looks just like yours. Does that mean it's not a real Focalink Stein? Why would the signature be missing?
It would be cool if you could name a couple of songs in which harmonies can be played on regular (i.e. non-harmony-) double ocarinas in your next video. The background decoration is great by the way!
I have been eyeing the Spencer virtuoso double ocarina, but they offer two versions: one with split sub holes and one with single hand. I would be interested to hear what he thinks of the two, since I noticed he has both kinds.
Could you make a video about places to find good tabs on the internet or good songbooks? When I only had a 6 hole I had to scavenge and I still sometimes get burned by incomplete tabs and would like to find a good place I can keep coming to or trust.
I have a zelda stl double ocarina and i feel like the 'fat' shape makes it more difficult to be in tune. But im still new to ocarinas so maybe im wrong. What should i get stl purple clay double or a stein double?🤔
Hey David! My name is Hilsson Angeles, i'm a beginner at playing Ocarinas, I got my first Ocarina just a few days ago, it is an Alto C Zelda Replica, I also bring it to school every day, and almost everyone loves it! I even got to play 2 songs for my History class.- Lost woods and Happy Birthday. Anyway I have learned the scale and such, but then I tried playing it in Band class, my teacher said unless it can play 8 scales then it isn't qualified as a Band instrument, which made me really upset considering that she has a Zelda Replica Ocarina her self, so I just stuck to playing the trumpet and Piano. Another thing, thanks to you, I learned how to play my Ocarina #Octalk ! Also Since I need to play more scales im thinking of getting a three chamber Ocarina for my birthday- February 22, 2001, so what do you think? Sincerely, Hilsson Angeles :)
Eli Gregory Thanx, I will, I also play the harmonica, the smallest amount of Acoustic guitar and some things on the electric guitar, all instruments I own except the electric guitar including the ones In my comment which are the trumpet, piano/keyboard, and the newest addition to the family- The basic alto C 12-hole Zelda replica Ocarina. Lastly i'd like to mention since I don't currently own an electric guitar, I am building one in my woodshop class in school, with a Warlock pattern, bevle round-over, and a basic warlock headstock, the guitar will be light green with gold on the bevle, and it will have the tri-force sign from twilight princess on the body of the guitar.
Whoa whoa whoa, your band director said what? It doesn't have to play eight scales to be a band instrument... I would think as long as a song can be transposed for your ocarina you could play it. I actually thought about doing the same thing, but I realized my flute had more octaves than my single-chambered Zelda STL ocarina. No I have the Zelda Double ocarina from STL, and I have to say, just by adding a second chamber, the range is impressive. I think the major problem with ocarinas is that you cannot tune one. If you could tune it, it would be an absolutely beautiful solo instrument, or maybe you could convince others to play it and have an ocarina *SECTION*!! Anyways, my two cents... Although you don't need a triple ocarina for that many scales. A flute can play 8 scales easy with just two octaves. Double Chambered Ocarina could probably do it.
Amen brother, I was actually thinking of making an entire band of Ocarinas, but then that would just be an Ocarina guild, Though I can't make an Ocarina guild because im not old enough. :'(, I have to be atleast 18, im also receiving 5 new Ocarinas for my Birthday! So with that I can share the art of musics with those who want to learn how to, might wanna carry some wet wipes though, don't wanna catch any Ebola. lol I also live in New Jersey, so the closest Ocarina Guild is 7 hours away in Pittsburg. Maybe when I become 18, ill make one............................................
Hilsson Angeles You can do as I did invest in a concert type ocarina STL sells them and I believe you can achieve the same with double triple and quadruple ocarina's. I wasn't in band class but I always finished my class work early and ahead so the teachers didn't mind me going to the band room and playing along or demonstrating the ocarina. I don't play the multi chambers yet mine is waiting at my folks home along with my elf ocarina till I move then they'll mail it to me. I use a concert style ocarina as present here www.stlocarina.com/rajaficooc.html. Though in my opinion all ocarinas can play in a band it just takes some time to find a place seeing how school bands are bands already formed when ever the program came (usually on the formation of your school) so the teacher's that take up the torch of the previous just follow how they did along with their schooling they learned. If you want organize a group with your band teacher and have her form something you can do during event's or something fun when bands travel like a theme park etc.
Personally, I own the ST. Louis, triple-chamber, plastic model. I'd like to know your opinion on a triple-chambered plastic ocarina, seeing as it's a pretty cheap alternative if you're that into it, but aren't willing to shell out $700+ on a real one. (The ST. Louis triple chamber plastic ocarina isn't even past the $100 range, if memory serves) I like it, but then, I'm still just an amateur, sooo. . . yeah, whaddya think?
do you have any advice to make the grip changes that come along with the chamber switching easier? also, am I supposed to lick my lips or use lip balm to slide my lips from one chamber to another without struggle?
Very nice, David :) So glad you're doing OcTalk! Only thing I miiiiiight suggest to you is.... MORE ENERGY, BROCHACHO!!! =D I'm happy you take this seriously and I know you're very passionate about the ocarina... but I think we need to 'see' that :) Just my opinion. Other than that, it's an awesome video. Keep up the good work! *huggles*
David Erick Ramos u know what david i actually like how ur jus normal. too many ppl try to be overly energetic to the point that it seems completely put on, fake and ott and it makes it hard for me to watch those kinds of youtubers cus they get on my nerves. u are so much more relatable and thats what makes u my fave and probably what has assisted in ur popularity. please dont feel pressured into being something that ur not. i know that imo itd make ur video less enjoyable. ur quirkiness and kinda shy like personality is endearing for someone who has so very many fans. jus remember there isnt another ocarina youtuber with more subscribers than u so it means ur doing something right and its not jus ur playing u can thank that to, its jus the fact that u are u. completely genuine. i really loved this video. it did inda raise some more questions for me but i dont think im quite ready to play a multichamber yet so ill cross that bridge when it comes to it. thank you for making them seem less scary tho
HI David, just got a double stl ocarina, when and how do you cover hole on the back and whats with the little hole on the side, have been following your videos on u-tube great stuff, would like to see tabs or music of your songs, Thanks
hi David, I've been looking at tabs for a double ocarina, but in all the tabs I find, the never show the right thumb hole to be covered or not. does the right thumb hole always stay covered or what? thanks
Hello David! I have a suggestion for you: I would like you to play, show and explain with luxury of details on a video a cuadruple ocarina. When you are explaining, I would like you to say who and when invented this kind of ocarina. Is it possible? Thanks, Germán.
Can I ask the key signature of your Pacchioni Tripla? Is it in C or B flat? And would you consider doing a review of this ocarina in the future? Your video convinced me that I want to learn the Pacchioni style for multi-chambers. But I cannot decide between alto C and Bb! C seems easier (and I am still beginner at this) and more versatile, but Bb has a more intriguing sound, I think. Thanks for the video, and looking forward to more!
Very informative video! If it's alright to ask, does the differences you mentioned mean that V-Style ocarinas can't play two different notes at the same time the way a P-Style one can?
Very nice. Do you have any triple ocarinas other than the Triple Forte that you would recommend? I have the White Double Forte, but seeing that the triple of that is 500 dollars, I am looking for something that is possibly cheaper. Thank you if you can answer
Hey David, you're a huge inspiration to say tha least n' I really wanna get a double ocarina(Zelda-themed) to start off with so I don't get easily bored with a single ocarina. Can you please recommend which of the Songbird or STL double Zelda ocarinas is better in your opinion so I can purchase that one? If you've played and/or have both that is of course. This would really mean a lot to me as I would like to purchase either one ASAP, thanks!
Also, I know you have a video somewhere that shows you how to play the sharps and flats on a 12 hole OC but I can't seem to locate it. Either yourself or anyone else here able link it?
I’m curious about something. Can you play two or three chambers at the same time on this ocarina, or can you only play one at a time? I see the “harmony” double and triple ocarinas where people play two or three at the same time. Is there a difference between a “harmony” ocarina and this? Thanks...
I'm wondering how to clean a double ocarina. Right now I have the STL plastic Double ocarina. I'm switching to a Focalink double alto C, but I want to know how to clean the plastic one. I tried doing the newspaper trick but It doesn't seem to work because I can't pull the newspaper back through the air holes :/
Songbird should make a dragon tooth double ocarina. Call it the dragon molar..
runningsandwich of
Dragon Claw
I third this.
Dragon jaw!
Dork

It's been almost a year. Do you have the skill yet?
Perhaps a discussion on how the material affects the quality of sound? Like how a wooden Budrio may differ in sound from a same-octave porcelain/ceramic Focalink, or something like that?
Or maybe advice on playing songs by ear, since I have trouble with that XD
I really like this idea of Ocarina sounds depending the material.
or just ocarina sounds by maker/type. for example, focalink has several different dolce models (A+B, i think) and a forte model, and it would be interesting to see how they relate to each other and, say, STL ocarinas and Mountain ocarinas
the ocarina bard
I think this could be part of the same episode, but good ideas :D
The material isnt much of influence as much as the maker, so which brand is better would be more accurate
im getting triple to start, and plan on using it as a 12 hole then a double then a triple over time, so that i dont have to spend extra money for each of them
Should i do that too?
so. four years later.. how'd that go for ya?
6:54 I have no monopoly moneyz
" or just buy them all" me: pfff! Hahahaha! That was my plan before I saw this video!
I got a triple ocarina from songbird and I'm like sooooo confused on the fingerings and this is helpful.
so glad that octalk is comeing back
Same!
I was looking at getting a triple ocarina, but for my first multi-chamber, I got the harmony double inline ocarina from Charlie Hind. It's a great instrument and I really enjoy it.
"Or just by them all, with your monopoly money" - hahahaha can't stop laughing lolololololo
Hi David, and thanks! My daughters bought me a double ocarina, and having never played an ocarina of any kind before I was lost. This helps thanks again.
Thank you very much, I have a triple ocarina but only train with the primary chamber for now. Can't wait to see the next video!
I'm good with any topic, to be honest. But I would like to see how to do vibrato, how to speed up how fast you can perform articulation, and how to make your fingers faster at getting to the notes.
Thank you so much for making videos!
Do an all wood OcTalk! I love the wood ones so much. You could talk about the pros and cons, your favorite models, etc
You're videos are so helpful! You answered everyone of my questions about multi-chamber ocarinas in this video. Thank you!
Ive been waiting for a video like this for so long! there's barely any videos on RUclips about doubles, thanks so much!!!
Ah!
(No fingering chart came with my double, so learning to play it by watching your videos!)
I do have previous experience playing other types of wind instruments, so learning breath control and learning to play songs (Not the ones in the book that came it) was Very easy for me on the pendant.

I know what I'm asking for for Christmas XD This was fascinating. I've been having a blast with my 10 hole ceramic ocarina, and had no idea there were more notes available on different ones! Super cool, thank you!
This instrument gets more and more interesting the more i learn about it!
Thanks for the video, I recently got the double songbird oot ocarina, it's my first double ocarina.
This style of making videos is really awesome, the editing was done great, i love your new background, keep up the good work
Thanks for this video. I was debating on whether to get the double ocarina (one of the Zelda replicas) or get the double harmony ocarina. Now I know which one I plan to get (the Double ocarina-not the double harmony ocarina). I also saw your video when you played the my neighbor totoro and you did a great job on it. Awesome video !! :D
Thanks Roxy! :)
Topic suggestion: why are you/your channel so awesome.
Thanks for all the informational/entertaining videos!
Very interesting and helpful video David! I hope you have an incredible New Year!
So. Out of curiosity. Would you recommend getting a double ocarina first or skipping it to go straight for a triple?
Great video David! I'm actually thinking my next ocarina should be a multi-chambered one, so this was very helpful and of course interesting!
At 5:24 I instinctively started humming the James Bond theme. X3
Yay I just bought a stl triple so this series will help a lot!
Subbed! Just got my first ocarina and it's a double! Good content
Which key is most versatile? What about A or C key?
Hi David. Just received my first ocarina from Songbird. Having fun with it. Id like to see a video on finger exercise's, that would be handy.
Thanks for being a true inspiration!!!!! I hope one day I can play as well as you!
Not even joking pal your the best Ur so wise in ocarinas Ur knowledge is just woooow
Please! it would be amazing to get a video or two on how to really use the double and triple ocarina.
I like position 1 for the F#. Intonation may be a bit off on some ocarinas, but I just can't get used to using subholes or split holes, haha.
Great video david.. keep it up
This was super informative. Right now I just have a small 6 hole Hylian shield shaped ocarina. I bought it because it looked neat and was inexpensive. This is fantastic!
Very good video David! I would suggest putting the ocTalk!-intro back in :)
I would love to hear about the differences between ocarinas from different coutries!
Very cool. Hope to see something on music theory too since I'm completely new to all this.
YES!!! MORE OcTALK!!!!!! I LOVE IT!
Dude! Thank you! this was really helpful!
Hey David big fan and fellow ocarina player from Hawaii!

Now we have ocarinas that are actually terrifying...
It would be cool if you could name a couple of songs in which harmonies can be played on regular (i.e. non-harmony-) double ocarinas in your next video.
The background decoration is great by the way!
at 2:13 you moved your right hand down to the next chamber but you weren't yet blowing in that chamber, I found that quite confusing at first.
i really want to know what the name of the ocarina or brand of the double alto C ocarina at 0:44 is. I really like everything about it.
+cl.hazel. stat
That's a Maparam double alto C. Unfortunately, those aren't made anymore so they are now hard to come by.

Triple ocarina is Zelda time traveling on steroids
Thanks for making this video :D I also commented on how to play double's and triples
@2:40 What p-style ocarina is this and where can I buy it, please?
Could you do a video on what ocarina to get or start out with just got into the world of ovarian so thanks

Could you do a comparison of the Songbird and STL double Zelda’s?
So how many holes does a double Ocarina have? I normally completely depend on subtitles while watching a video.
16 - 18 I think
Ohmygosh HE'S A DOCTOR WHO FAN!

Yep, buying one of these when I get paid.
do you have any advice to make the grip changes that come along with the chamber switching easier?
also, am I supposed to lick my lips or use lip balm to slide my lips from one chamber to another without struggle?
Very nice, David :) So glad you're doing OcTalk!
Only thing I miiiiiight suggest to you is.... MORE ENERGY, BROCHACHO!!! =D I'm happy you take this seriously and I know you're very passionate about the ocarina... but I think we need to 'see' that :) Just my opinion. Other than that, it's an awesome video. Keep up the good work! *huggles*
Haha, I know, I know. In the next episode...more coffee! xD
Old comment, but gotta agree with Rhian. Don't change a thing. Your videos are great.
ooh~ fancy!
HI David, just got a double stl ocarina, when and how do you cover hole on the back and whats with the little hole on the side, have been following your videos on u-tube great stuff, would like to see tabs or music of your songs, Thanks
hi David, I've been looking at tabs for a double ocarina, but in all the tabs I find, the never show the right thumb hole to be covered or not. does the right thumb hole always stay covered or what? thanks
Can you do a review on double and triple ocarinas? I want to get one but I don't know which to get. Thank you
Hello David! I have a suggestion for you: I would like you to play, show and explain with luxury of details on a video a cuadruple ocarina. When you are explaining, I would like you to say who and when invented this kind of ocarina. Is it possible? Thanks, Germán.
do you think you will make a series of how to play these?
How good are those songbird harmony triple ocarinas? thinking of getting one
I really would like if u teached scales for a 7 hole ocarina
Did anyone notice on that last one (the songbird), there were 5 finger holes on the second chamber? Why? I don't have that many fingers!
Own a Dragontooth ocarina :) i have a lot of practicing to do on my days off xD
Very informative video! If it's alright to ask, does the differences you mentioned mean that V-Style ocarinas can't play two different notes at the same time the way a P-Style one can?
david you come to budrio this may? for the festival?
Very nice. Do you have any triple ocarinas other than the Triple Forte that you would recommend?
I have the White Double Forte, but seeing that the triple of that is 500 dollars, I am looking for something that is possibly cheaper. Thank you if you can answer
Chonkarina
HAHAHAGAGAGGAGAGHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAGAGAGAGGAGAGAGQQJJAJAJAJAJAJAH
Hey David, you're a huge inspiration to say tha least n' I really wanna get a double ocarina(Zelda-themed) to start off with so I don't get easily bored with a single ocarina. Can you please recommend which of the Songbird or STL double Zelda ocarinas is better in your opinion so I can purchase that one? If you've played and/or have both that is of course. This would really mean a lot to me as I would like to purchase either one ASAP, thanks!
can you talk about doing sharps and flats on a 12 hole(if you haven't already)
LOL, with your Monopoly Moneys.
Thanks...
Which double ocarinas would you recommend and where/which website can i get one?
I'm wondering how to clean a double ocarina. Right now I have the STL plastic Double ocarina. I'm switching to a Focalink double alto C, but I want to know how to clean the plastic one. I tried doing the newspaper trick but It doesn't seem to work because I can't pull the newspaper back through the air holes :/
Thanks for your video! What is the difference between an alto C and alto G ocarina please? Which alto C double ocarina do you recommend?
Hey do you prefer the standard 12 hole transverse ocarina or a double and/or triple ocarina?
I know I asked this before, but could you cover transpositions in one if your talk? Thanks!
What's the Ocarina at 8.01 ? I was thinking of buying one like it but can't find much information anywhere.
I can play for some reason higher notes on my AC double ocarina, than on an AC trible ocarina
I want to as you something: is ''Neje'' a good kind of Ocarina?? If you know it...
