Autechre used to have a late night radio show called 'disengage' in manchester on kiss fm. this version of dark river is from 'disengage'.. they would often create special mixes etc just for it. This is from the radio show. A friend of mine used to tape the shows. I have the cassette with this on right here. I lifted the track from the tape and set it loose in idm land many moons ago.. so while it is not much of a remix it really is autechre monkeying with coil.
@@noraberman365 I'll see if I can dig out the tape I have that my friend Chris recorded with the Coil/Autechre on and digitise it. If I can find it I'll put in in my other youtube channel which is just for music I love. Will pop a note here if it works out.
I love Coil, this track in particular. I was working on a cover/remix of Dark River and I didnt know whom to get in touch with. I emailed Coil's website on a long shot. John Balance sent me back a message saying "Glad to hear some one else is darkening the river"
gotta say... this truly does not sound like an Autechre remix of any sort. I'm a fan of both bands for many years - though decidedly a HUGE Coil fan. That said, I saw Autechre's first State-side tour and they were utterly amazing! In a tiny tiny (literally) underground nightclub in NYC.
Pretty sure this track got it's name on WinMX back in the P2P days. Lots of curiously renamed content was passed around until we could figure out what it actually was.
I read that it was part of a live DJ set for the Peel Sessions show. That explains why it's just beats over the original track. Apparently AE did do a remix of Coil's Panic. Although you couldn't tell from listening to it. It just sounds like another AE track.
@sencesor this just sounds like someone looping break/splice beats over the original song. definitely not Autechre, who remixes tracks and truly makes it their own. This is rather uncreative. If it were truly Autechre why would they deny having remixed a song like this?
I like Autechre ok, but a "remix" is more than using the complete original track and then throwing a fucking breakbeat sample on the last minute of it. This is terrible. I cant believe Autechre put their name on it, let alone are they somehow proud of it. Just awful
according to the description it was played live so it would make sense to play the track and then throw a fucking breakbeat sample on the last minute of it, in my opinion. I would have been quite blown away to hear that live. It's not like they put it on an album
Autechre and Coil are both great and I really wanted to like this track, but you're right. If that's all they're gonna do with it then might as well not really, dj mix or otherwise.
Go to Coil (band) Wiki and look for this: Christopherson explained, "We shot 'Love's Secret Domain' in a go-go boy bar in Bangkok; with John [Balance] performing on stage with about 20 or 30 dancing boys, which probably won't get played on MTV, in fact!" Hmmm, maybe you have to be more than a mental midget to put two and two together.

I've seen the video, the 'boys' are no more than 12 years old at the oldest. Disgusting.

Simply awesome! Gorgeous, full of emotions and magic. Coil + Autechre = the perfect mix, the perfect connection between incredible sound artists
Holy Sheep Dip, why did I not know about this .. ? .. nine years after you posted. Guess the river is too dark. Thanks sencesor.

This sounds like a song Autechre would like. But it also has a melody to it, so maybe it's a song they used to like?
Coil, this page is right up the same branch of the river.
thumb up if you´re a chaos magickcian
The textures are somewhat similar but the mood is competely different.
is this mix even created by autechre?
@TRaddcliff the internet is not a flaw, its a great gain for all
what did they even change?
@shunyataprajna tell that to the artists that dont make money on sales anymore due to downloads.
very nice
tasty effervescence - not to simply be consumed
Magickian? I've heard of the spelling of magic with a k, but I don't think it works with the "ian" suffix.
@R. M there's nothing "occult" about the world's most famous occultist. Kinda like calling freemasons a "secret society" huh?
beast
chaos star picture
born dead red ryder!

why even care? this upload is a mere curiosity, not even officially released by ae
people in this comment section really don't know the difference between a 'mix' and a 'remix' huh
sorry, not ultra rare anymore.
the internet fucked that up. :(

To be fair, Autechre kinda suck at remixing.
I’m fan of both Coil and Autechre, but I didn’t think this was great neither.
