  • Nishapur in NE Iran is well known for luxury ceramics in the Middle Ages. It reached the height of its prosperity under the Samanids in the 10th century, but was destroyed by Mongols in 1221. The magnificent ceramic industry died at the same time, but survives in archaeological collections today.
