- Im getting Invisalign TOO! At this point, everyone and their mamma have it lol. My underbite was initially meant to be fixed with surgery and braces in my teens but due to a series of unfortunate events, that didn't happen and over time my teeth have progressively gotten worse. I'm hoping to fix my bite, straighten and close my many gaps. I'm extremely excited to start and share this journey primarily because I get to keep my front GAP! shout out to all my gap tooth Kings and Queens... keep shining. I see you

The one bright spot for me during this panorama has been that I wore braces all of 2020. I had mentally prepared myself to be "in hiding" as I'm a grown ass adult, but with confinement and closed borders, I was able to complete my treatment in relative secrecy and missed out on nothing since the world was shut.
I started off with Invisalign and all of my trays but as I live outside of US most of the year, when I had an issue (remember closed borders) I had to get traditional metal braces in the country where I was based. Like you I had a gap and noticed my teeth were shifting "outwards" because of tongue thrust. Next month will make 1 year with my new smile and closed gap. I LOVE IT!!! I was always self conscious of it and the braces were a birthday gift to myself.
I have invisalign in right now and I am on my final trays before any refinement trays. I had gaps along with an overbite and never had braces until I was finally determined to get them this year. I'm so glad I did it as I never really had confidence in my smile but I now love the look of my teeth so you definitely won't regret it! My top tip is to put in your next tray the previous night before the scheduled day (e.g. put them on a Thursday night just before bed for Friday onwards) that way your teeth can settle into the trays and they will in your mouth for a substantial period of time without disruption e.g. eating, brushing your teeth etc. Also, there's no excruciating pain as your teeth will have adjusted throughout the night. This definitely helped me a lot on my journey. I hope all goes well and can't wait to see your journey 🙌🏽

I'm so excited for you. I am also getting Invisalign, I'm going in for my molding next week. I have a slight overbite and with age my teeth have been shifting. Looking forward to going on this journey along with you. Glad you are keeping your gap.

I have a gap too. I was never teased about it here in the US. My youngest daughter has it too. When she was 12 the dentist asked her if she wanted braces and she said no. She liked how she looked. Whenever I run into someone from my past….I’m 71 now….they don’t remember me until I smile. Then they say they remember that smile. They used to call me “sunshine”. Hope it all turns out well.🤗💕

I love that your keeping your gap!!!!! I had braces, and lost my retainers (lol) but I liked that my gap came back, the rest of my teeth are straight! Having a gap is beautiful
My dentists said if I don't do the retainer as much I can keep a small gap, was this how you kept yours?

I have a few months left in my Invisalign journey and opted to keep my front gap as well. Its been great so far and I narrowed it a bit which took some adjusting to see. I love it though! #gapgang 😉

Its interesting that you decided to keep your natural gap🙂... I too have a gap but it runs in my family on my moms side. When I grew up I never liked my gap, got braces in highschool my teeth got straight. Once the braces were removed my teeth remained straight but my gap remained🙂..
So I learned to embrace this rare family trait cause not all of us have it 🙂

I love this. When I was younger I was teased for my gap and big teeth and I grew really insecure about it and would always cover my mouth when I laughed. I eventually got Damon system braces in college. Initially I wanted to try to keep my gap but the orthodontist said that wouldn’t really work so I became content with the idea of not having a gap. One day this guy was like “Sistuh, are you wearing those braces to straighten your gap?” And then he told me about how highly coveted gaps are in some places in Africa. That stayed in the back of my mind while I continued with my braces treatment and my gap closed. When they took those braces off my teeth looked great but they didn’t look like MY teeth. Eventually I got lazy and stopped wearing my retainer. Now my signature smile has returned and I get compliments all the time on how beautiful my smile is. ✨💫

I had braces when I was 10 and wish I could have saved my gap when my overbite was corrected. I was never teased, but it was something that made me feel so connected to my Guyanese 🇬🇾 family since a majority of them had it.
My daughter had braces 2 years ago and I so wanted to keep her gap, but that was the first thing closed. 😭
I'm so glad someone else loves their gap! I love it too (and am half Ghanian lol) but really want to get the rest of my teeth fixed, so Invisalign just seems like the perfect option :-)

I have an underbite & a gap also. I’m currently on 6 out of 14 trays. You are going to be amazed at how fast these things work . I only take them out to eat, drink & social events. You’ll see a change within the first month. CRAZY
I have an overbite and still have a slight gap after finishing my Invisalign 3 years ago (I had braces as a kid but never wore my retainers 🙄). Looking forward to seeing your progress.
Laila, I have a gap but due to wisdom teeth crowding and youthful thumbsucking my wonderful straight smile is now quite overbitey.
I've always thought you had beautiful teeth and actually your smile is one of the images I planned to show to my invisalign dentist as my ideal end result. As a teen, everytime I went to the dentist they would casually tell me to come back for an ortho apt to close my gap. I was very offended and upset at these comments because I loved my gap. Glad I never listened to them.
I did the same thing-Invisalign on the bottom to fix the crowding, but kept my gap. Do you, sis! Also-orajel (or the UK equivalent) is your friend for the first few weeks 🙃

Diastema is the name for the gap. I miss mine. Had teeth removed due to radioactive iodine treatment. If I knew then what I know know. I'm glad you have your teeth and can keep your gap(diastema).

I'm going through this now, that's why I looked this up.. The term is called Diastema. I want to keep mine as well, I wouldn't feel me without it
I have a tongue thrust. I got Invisilines and I loved them. I did lose my gap but mine wasn’t very prominent anyway.
Doctor once told me reconstructive jaw surgery. Sounds painful. Still think about it though

I'll be starting my journey in 2 months, I excited. They asked if I wanted to keep my Gap or close it, I did give it a thought but chose to close it.
I also had a bite issue that was similar than yours now, maybe a little less prounced, and invisalign fixed it. It can take longer than the original plan to fix a bite and you absolutely have to wear a retainer basically forever lol. Totally worth it though!

Oooh I started my Invisalign 3 months for overbite! It’s kinda painful changing the trays in the beginning esp where they had to create ipr spacing in mine😩 but it’s coming along nicely 😊

I didn't realize you can fix jaw alignment with Invisalign. My father is a dentist and once mentioned that Invisalign is used for teeth movement, not jaws.
Yes, its purely cosmetic. They're only moving the teeth but my naturally forward jaw will remain the same unless I want jaw surgery which is 20K plus lol also even if it wasn't the cost of a house deposit i'm too old for the downtime 😅 its long

I have a gap too and I love it. I wanted to fix other issues but the orthodontist I saw advised me to close it to insure stability in the futur. I refused and may see an other one

I actually used to BEG to get braces when I was a kid lol. I needed braces years ago as a kid, but I never got them and now I feel like my two out of place teeth and overbite have gotten worse.
I always wanted to try Invisalign myself. Hopefully I can get it in the near future.
I would just like to know from anybody who did Invisalign years ago did their teeth go back to how they were after a while or did they stay straightened?
I learnt, they attach retainers under your teeth to avoid them from shifting.

This video was meant to find me! My teeth are small and gapped and I actually love the gap in my front teeth, but grinding my teeth has cause them to protrude.
I have heard that gapped teeth were very special, so i never fixed mine either. however, as I have gotten older, all of my teeth have continued to move :-(

My dentist didn't mentioned that. the plan is to keep the gap my straighten the front teeth and leave equal space on either side on the baby teeth to be bonded later nut I wonder if that will be the case once they send back the the treatment plan. Will defo keep you post. Have your trays been ordered?

Get a second opinion because if you need surgery you teeth will eventually go back to the way they were.
