Strongman is just growing so much, and a lot of comps are gaining popularity every year. Plus you see all the wild implements at events like Rouge and Shaw classic, WSM will change eventually, it beat the tug of war events they had 20 plus years ago
WSM is purely survival because of its history. It is not everyone’s least favorite comp, everything about it is done poorly. It’s a cool title to have but rogue, Arnold’s, and Shaw classic winners are the best strongmen
Loz/Liz: Lucas Hatton has apparently turned down the invitation. He did reply to somebody on Instagram comments saying he's at the Rainier classic. I think he had already confirmed for that and elsewhere somebody said he had confirmed this but I haven't seen any more detail than that yet.
I think a lot of people just don't care about WSM any more. Prize pool is comparatively low, too much focus on "what looks good on TV", things always go wrong, and some of the dumbest events for a competition (look good on TV though!). Stone carry and Conan's wheel are just bad events, the results are way too inconsistent as the top guy in one competition will get 5th place in the next competition. Stone off is just not fair, its a good idea but terrible implementation. How about this if I'm up 10 points on 3rd place then make them do 10 extra reps, rather than 1 rep being worth 10 points. Oh and their carry events are dumb, everyone finishes in 25 seconds. They need to separate the competitors and not have 1 second be the difference between 1st and 6th place.
They should have a sixth event in the qualifiers and the 1st and 2nd go through, with no stone off. Or at least, mix it up each year and have 2nd and 3rd do something different.
I see shane flowers doing really well here. He's great at stones so good chance of making the final, and the final events also really suit him. I could see him getting into the top 6 if things go really well for him. Apparently he didn't deload at all for europes just used it as a test run
Thanks. Think it might be a good year for Evan Singleton. And perhaps Luke Stoltman's fitness and deadlift improvements might see him place higher. There might not be a better year to go for that third podium spot!
As hard as I try to be pumped for Worlds, every time there is mention of the Stone Off it's like a full on kick to the Johnson. I hate it. Virtually everyone I see commenting hates it. I just don't understand why WSM is hellbent on keeping it, especially with keeping Novikov out of the Final in 2019 which would have put him head to head with Martins and made a much better final. Kept Big Tel out of the Final in 2020, and totally fucked Brian in 2023. That being said I love the Keg for Height. Classic event from the Capes era and Magnus Ver era. Conan's wheel I have always been a big fan of watching Magnus Samuelsson grimace through that event, or when Svend Karlsen pretty much secured his win in 2001. Would love to see the Car Flip back, and some loading races through water. Those are always fun. I've been amazed at how much shit talk about WSM I've been seeing in the comments. Clearly they need to address their image and cater to the fans. The Arnold is the heaviest, no doubt, always has been. But the sport has changed. People don't care that David Webster wanted the WSM winner to be a balance of strength and athleticism like Donald Dinnie. (Not speaking for myself, considering I love the athletic events). They don't care that Douglas Edmunds came from a Highland Games background and ran the early World Muscle Power Classic shows with a lot of that in mind. They need to balance unique events and more weight. They started moving in that direction after Z's win in 2009 but they haven't kept up recently with all this new competition. It's not just the WMPC or Fortissimus or IFSA. We've got the Shaw Classic that has a lot of great events. Rogue that has definitely put together a great reputation for itself and a virtual monopoly on equipment, we had WUS for a while and I think we're going to see more high caliber shows pop up in the near future with the growth in popularity of the sport. Worlds needs to listen to feedback, get a livestream and maybe then produce a more polished production later and maybe even not hold off until the end of the year to broadcast it. Get back to going to more exotic locations and not two years in Bradenton, Florida, Sacramento, and Myrtle Beach ffs. Victoria Falls, Tangier, Mauritius, Sun City, Kuala Lampur etc. That shit was amazing, and considering the Rogue Invitation is in Scotland, Worlds might want to step up their game because that is already more interesting than Columbus, Ohio or Austin, Texas. Also love to see the MVM Classic is looking to grow it's athlete base. It's a brutal show with really cool events in an awesome location ran by a legend.
I went to the last Shaw classic, and it was amazing. He should look into buying the world, strongest man Event. I guarantee you people would rather have Shaw have it.
@@thomasrosendahl2783 I agree, however Tom & Mitch are both continuing to get better and stronger. Witnessing Toms Growth over the past 4-5 years is incredible.
Sad that more people had to pull out but with Worlds Strongest Man still being "the" show to get eyes on athletes, some lesser known athletes are going to get great opportunities from it
I have a question. Obviously it's sad that some of the best guys have pulled out. We could have had 5 winners in this contest plus Mateuz. Some might say that if Mitch or Tom win they haven't competed against the best guys and so they discount it. But does part of being the best strongman include ensuring you stay in good shape and injury free. I'm not saying all the others purposely got injured, but is there a part that fitness, recovery, technique and self care play into prevention of injury and so we could say Tom and Mitch are the best because they kept themselves in good shape. Or, are injuries 100% accidental and Tom and Mitch are just lucky?
So of the Top strongmen we're missing Licis, Novikov, Thor, and Kieliszkowski and Shaw is no longer competing. So its a Stoltman vs Hooper duke off then.
I think the WSM is actually doing a lot of harm to the sport with all it's secretivity. People are losing intetest and starting to put the comp down as a reaction. In this day and age there SHOULD be a live stream and even if it would cost something, thousands would buy it and the comp would get a lot of exposure. If the reason is the old contract with the british tv they should just negotiate a new one. I have the utmost respect for Colin amd everything they do but things have to change.
For the stone off they should make the athlete in third place do the amount of reps that equal the difference in points between second and third. So if second is ahead by 3 points, third place must do 3 reps before starting the back and forth. More of an advantage for second place that way IMO.
Honestly, really not caring much about WSM this year. They've been plummeting downhill for years, and it just... I don't know. I'm not that interested in waiting months and months and months to see a show I've known the results of.
After how HORRIBLE last year was for fans at WSM, and the organizational and update issues this year, it's shocking that people think this won't be another disaster of a competition. WSM is a joke.
Lotta complaints about the new/substitute athletes. Wasn't Mitch Hooper a sub at his first WSM? And as far as the complaints about events that are just for TV... That's because it's on TV! For the longest time it was the only strongman event on TV and it's for that reason that a LOT of competitors got into the sport. You can hate on WSM but without WSM there wouldn't be the Shaw Classic or the Rogue, or any of the other big events. Of course it should be structured and streamed like the newer events but because it IS on TV there are TV contracts to consider... sponsorships, broadcast rights, etc. It might not be the best pure strongman event out there but it's still the only event a lot of people have access to because of those TV contracts. For all its flaws and obvious areas for improvement it's still my favorite event because it's what got me into lifting way back before the internet was a thing. In other words, don't throw away your grandfather just because he's out of fashion.
I'd equate it more to taking your grandfather to the doctor because one of his legs has fallen off and he's blind. I can't think of a successful, major competition in any other sport that isn't streamed or broadcasted live. Like you, I adore the competition for the memories it's given me over the 16 years I've followed strongman, but the WSM TV show is no better than the recaps the Arnold Strongman Classic puts up mere weeks after the competition. Every year, something else falls off my grandfather and at some point, it'll be time to go to Switzerland. I hope that never happens, but it doesn't seem impossible to me.
If it wasn’t for the title and nostalgia it holds, WSM would have went away a long time ago. Every year it becomes less and less important to the fans. They are way too far behind the times. Fans want RUclips streams nowadays like Rouge, and Arnolds.
Liz and Loz, I would love to see you both mention your "top 3" most likely to make their first finals this year! I know a lot of it will depend on groups, but top three generally speaking.

He's stated in a comment on Instagram that he is now committed to a different show that week, not doing WSM.
Re Webster stones, how can they have 3 lanes? Surely dont have identical stones?
All the stones are replicas
@@jaket2274 aye, but they will all be different, making it not a level playing field...
Barring injury, I feel like Mitch has worlds in the bag already lol
Such Bad luck and gutted for Shane flowers now being out for WSM too
I’m assuming the addition of Faires and Spencer is the fact that they’re American and it’ll be more feasible for them to attend on such short notice
WSM posts the trophy pic of brian and doesnt send him the trophy. The clownery continues.
😭gutted for Oleksii and Shane
Put Mitch an tom same group. A stone off would be epic
Let's get Tristain Hoath in!!
With Novikov out, we’re guaranteed a new podium finisher, my money is on singleton
They will invite everybody except Hatton
He is going to a different show that week according to a comment he made on Instagram, not attending WSM.
For the stone off they should make the athlete in third place do the amount of reps that equal the difference in points between second and third. So if second is ahead by 3 points, third place must do 3 reps before starting the back and forth. More of an advantage for second place that way IMO.
And that one year when they had power stairs as the last event
Stones before Deadlifts? Ouch!
Stones full stop!
Honestly, really not caring much about WSM this year. They've been plummeting downhill for years, and it just... I don't know. I'm not that interested in waiting months and months and months to see a show I've known the results of.
You have the best wife Loz. If I ever corrected my ex-wife she’d give me hell for the rest of my life. Even when we’re not married anymore.
You're probably right, but we don't know what happened after the camera stopped. 😂
Shouldn't the Car Walk be renamed the Loz Walk?
After how HORRIBLE last year was for fans at WSM, and the organizational and update issues this year, it's shocking that people think this won't be another disaster of a competition. WSM is a joke.
Arnold’s and Shaw shows are superior to WSM…in all ways.
Mitch sweeping this lol
What about Lucas ? Does wsm think he doesn't exist 😢
If it wasn’t for the title and nostalgia it holds, WSM would have went away a long time ago. Every year it becomes less and less important to the fans. They are way too far behind the times. Fans want RUclips streams nowadays like Rouge, and Arnolds.
Northern Ireland, Ireland is a different country
Anyone else who doesn't care about wsm anymore i have not seen it in 10 years on TV
The head are good events for Luke Stoltman .
Liz and Loz, I would love to see you both mention your "top 3" most likely to make their first finals this year! I know a lot of it will depend on groups, but top three generally speaking.
