PICO 4 Development: How To Enable See-Through Features In Unity

- In today's video I walk you through how to create a camera script to enable PICO 4 see-through features in Unity among other settings required to make this work. See-Through features is equivalent to what Meta calls Passthrough when talking about a Meta Quest 2 or Meta Quest Pro.

Thanks for this video! I have a question - how do you make it so that the rays are also rendered "on top of" the passthrough camera video? You can notice on your video that they are only rendered wherever the Unity content is. I'm guessing it has to do something with layers?

Hello! Thanks for the video! It was really helpful, but I have one question... when I try to preview in my glasses, the screen turns black in the headset; however, on my computer, Unity detects my movements and it works.

I have the same question, does it allow camera access? because Quest 2/Pro does not, and that makes completely useless for AR
Hello Dilmer, thats great and work. Does it possible to implement into openvr, since when i try to transfer to use openvr the background change back to black and the front camera seems cannot functioning

As far as I know these features only work on deployment during a standalone session, I haven’t tried it with PCVR.

the PXR_Boundary doesnt exists on Unity.XR.PXR, I'm using the "PICO Unity OpenXR Plugin" so I'm assuming I should be using the "PICO Unity Integration SDK" instead right?
That’s correct, it is part of the PICO Unity integration SDK, I haven’t tried the OpenXR version yet.
Any news about Pico's upcoming release of the Seethrough API?
Good question, I haven’t seen anything related to it within their latest docs, I would love to test it out once it becomes available !
So is this AR implemented? With the VR device, see through the function. This makes me confused

Curious why the built-in recording function is not sufficient for you?
Thank you for your reply. I'm writing an AR image capture app, so I wanted to get the camera data directly through Unity. Though I'm not sure if this is any different from the built-in screenshot.

I watched this video (also the prevous for the set up) at least 12 times and still can't make it work. The screen stays black in play mode, in the build as well...
Hi. I have created same scene and same script but its not going in to seethrough mode. I can only this scene with Black environment. Am I missing something?
Check and see if there is a OS update needed on your device, check which version of PICO 4 SDK you are using, let me know and I can compare to what I have.
@@dilmerv Sorry to change topic but I have created 1st app in Unity URP then Environment is in Black color only But when i create 2nd app with Unity Standard Pipeline it works fine. So it means we can't do See through in URP right?
Is possible to access the camera for AR applications? because Quest 2/PRO does not allow it
As far as I am aware there is no access with PICO either, I will double check since I haven’t looked at their latest updates. Great question!

Yes, that’s by using the PICO preview tool which enables you to stream from your device to Unity.
the environment stays just black. I use Unity 2022.1.23f1 and URP and the newest pico 4 sdk unity integration. In other apps Ive tested on my pico the seethrough mode works. Any idea why everything stays black?
Are the other apps you tested using the standard rendering pipeline ?
URP needs to turnoff the HDR
how to implement Vuforia in PICO 4 ?
Good question, I haven’t hear of any support with Vuforia, I will look into it.
have you tried this on play mode instead of building it ?

also i want to ask if the hand tracking in pico works? do you have any idea?
@@dilmerv I have the same problem. Even the preview toolkit is connected, play mode doesn't work (black screen on the headset). I noticed that the checkbox for the windows/standalone xr plugin managment doesn't appear with the latest version of the sdk. Could it be the reason? Could you give me the version of the sdk you are using?

Thanks for your feedback ! and for your question it really depends on what type of features you would need for your enterprise use case, what type of app would it be ?

They are both great, PICO 4 has better color Passthrough but Quest 2 has better hand tracking, I would suggest to compare the features and see which one would fit better to what you are trying to create.
