In this music there floats a kind of mist suitable for dreams and gentle drifts. A climate of rediscovered peace that we sometimes feel without knowing exactly why during certain summer nights! these artists build a discourse of interiority, of breathing, which knows how to make room for silence🕊️
Arthur de Silva: Samuel Ramey was one of the finest Bass-Baritones to sing at the MET and Worldwide. In his prime he owned the roles of SIR Walton above , Verdi's Attila, Zacharria in Nabucco, Assur in Semiramide, Ruiz Gomes de Silva in Ernani and many others. He was blessed with a rich resonant, open throated ringing (Squillo) voice which carried firmly to the top tiers of the house. His successor has yet to make his appearance from today's Vocal talent in this category. Do enjoy his recordings that are still available.
I have pretty much all of his recordings, and I'm holding on to them. I agree with everything you said except for classifying him as a bass-baritone. I hear him as a true basso cantante, who happens to have a greatly extended upper register. His voice reaches from the bottom of the lower register of the bass range and is solid up to the top of his extended upper register. His voice to my ear isn't that "in-between" voice of the bass-baritone.
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia At least he is better than the modern cardboard: JNF, ruclips.net/video/LNqMrUgJ4Nk/видео.html Met also use another modern bass: John Relyea Do you think he is the new Siepi??!!! Maybe he needs some operation on his throat. He was the one singing with Anna N. back then...far from Ramey. ruclips.net/video/u51qQosthXU/видео.html
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia also here is the tenor that I saw singing with Anna N. It is kind of match together, nasal too, but the biggest problem with me is that his vibrating is too strong and goat like... ruclips.net/video/oguKrWrICZQ/видео.html
One of the greatest voices of all time combined with great acting ability, superb technique, an understanding of the differences of eras of composition [i.e., does not sing Handel as though it was Donizetti and vice versa} and simply gorgeous to look at as well. He is the ultimate package in the bass repertoire. What a shame we could not have had him to sing with Callas==the electricity on the stage would have been a miracle of opera.

Strangely Bonynge makes a cut of the 3d stanza "Geme talor qual tortora amorosa, or cade vinta da mortal sudore, or l'odi, al suon dell' arpa lamentosa, cantar d'amor, d'amore." and the aria doesn't seem shorter. Maybe a good idea in this repetitive aria.

Grande cantante grazie mille

Absolutely love this aria by Samuel Ramey. Pure, beautiful voice!
Not only a peerless voice, but, as an Italian, I can say an impeccable diction. Superb

Una voce pastosa, unita, una qualità. Che voce
This is not regular bass, extremely crafted voice and the finest. Bravo!!!
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia With extraordinary acting mastery, highest operatic IQ. What a total package.
