The meeting was attended by His Excellency Peng Po, Minister of Public Works and Transport, His Excellency the Permanent Vice President and Secretary General of the General Secretariat of the National Committee for National and International Festivals, His Excellency Saint Bandith, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister and Deputy Chief of Cabinet. His Excellency the Prime Minister, His Excellency the Governor of Kandal Province, His Excellency Lok Chumteav, representatives of relevant ministries and institutions, the National Committee for National and International Festival and many professional officials.
The purpose of this meeting was to meet and discuss the division of tasks directly to the members of the Inter-Ministerial Commission to organize the groundbreaking ceremony to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness and safety in the work of organizing the groundbreaking ceremony of Prek Chik Funan Techo. The high presidency of the Prime Minister, which is a proud national historical event.
The groundbreaking event for August 5, 2024 will be held in Prek Takeo, Samrong Thom Commune, Kien Svay District, Kandal Province. Funan Techo will connect the waterway from the Cambodian river directly to the sea.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his strong belief that after the completion of this project, it will bring back many benefits to the economy, society, tourism, especially the political independence of Cambodia by participating in reducing travel time, distance, cost. Reduce road damage, traffic congestion, procedures for ships and goods in and out, and increase multi-modal transport in Cambodia.
Prior to this meeting, on Monday, July 1, 2024, HE Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, accompanied by His Excellency the Minister of Public Works and Transport, His Excellency the Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology. The Minister of Health, HE Governor of Kandal Province and a working group from relevant ministries and institutions inspected the site of Prek Chik Funan Techo project in Prek Takeo village, Samrong Thom commune, Kien Svay district, Kandal province.
Please be informed that this waterway project was approved by the Royal Government of the 6th legislature during the plenary session of the Council of Ministers on May 19, 2023, named "Prek Chik Funan Techo" project, in which Cambodia Fulfill all obligations to notify the project to the Mekong River Commission (Joint Commission) through the National Mekong River Commission of Cambodia.
