I remember I was SO intimidated trying to use manual mode. After watch video after video on youtube for months about shutter speed, iso, aperture, lighting and composition I feel hamstrung now trying to use a camera in auto mode! Gary is sooo right.. just work with one setting at a time and focus on lighting, angle and composition.
What's a fidget spinner and what does it have to do with photography. I always use Manual. And I have my metering on the shortcut button so I can change it at a moments notice.
I don't know why I'm watching this, I already know how to use my manual mode. Oh right! This is a Gary video. That's why I'm watching this. Great video mate!
Gary, i don't know how you do it, but you are one of the few people in this world that have mind blowing explaining abilities..it's just stunning. I thought i was the only person to notice that, until i scrolled down and saw the comments, so that gives you a small idea of just how captivated i was by your videos. You would make an amazing tutor or lecturer!
Manual/Pro mode is a great feature to have especially for those mobile photographers and instagrammers. Auto mode has gotten very good but having a Manual mode can offer advantages for creativity and customization.
@ Gary Sims That's the most lucid explanation of terms like shutter speed, ISO, exposure, & metering I've ever heard. Thank you very much for your input.
Thank you for this video! For someone who doesn't always use manual mode this is a great reminder of what setting does what and how it will alter the outcome of your shot.
Have been using manual shots quite a bit because of a very dark environnement (caves). I found the "night mode" to be very fitting, giving you 2 controls: Exposure and Shutter speed. Very easy to start (though you can do exactly the same in manual AND MORE!) thanks for explaining the dual lens part, because ive never got it.
LG V20 manual mode is dope I love it never use the auto settings cause it does so much better manual mode. A cheap(er) way of getting in manual cameras is mirrorless + vintage nikkor lenses + adapter
I hope Gary Sims can do a follow up video for the HiFi audio controls found in LG V series phones, explaining the LCF, and directional control of the microphones, all that stuff...
That was such a clear, concise video. So easy to understand. Thank you Gary. :-) p.s. I haven't tried the manual controls on any of my recent smartphones, but I'm going to do what you suggested and tinker with the exposure time (I do want to get some of those "Arty" photos of red and orange car lights at night time).
always i like to play wit manual mode but like you say, lern the basics. great job again Gary, the most great videos from an expert, always on point, CPU/GPU/CORES/CAMERAS/ARM/ and all this great videos {Gary explains} Keep doing this great videos!!!
I did photography in college with all film cameras (No digital back then!) and I do 3D animation for work now, which uses the same camera settings so I do occasionally use manual mode, in fact I like the app called Manual Camera. Most of the time I just use the regular automatic mode though.
U r awesome..And a nice teacher.. I watched ur video completely bcz of ur pronunciation and voice..(magical)Thanks for the nice explanations..and Im' a manual mode lover too.. Thumbs up.
VoloKin Project I was able to get some great shots with my XZ with almost no light. I love playing with the shutter speed, but I feel that Sony could give us a wider set of options (a bit more time). Maybe with O(reo) we get something...
+dovydas aukstuolis they gotta up their game with a second sensor or extend the slo-mo as well as finally sorting out the Auto mode. Great potential, but poor execution unfortunately.
great video. can anyone explain why more phones have manual photo settings than manual video? in other words, why does my oneplus 3 have manual photo settings built in, but not manual video like a few other phones?
This was a NICE gloss over the Manual or Pro Mode features of the Android Smart phones' camera features. I've been studying more information on what he covered, and I've REALLY been enjoying picture-taking I'm Pro Mode with my S9! Thanks for doing a great job in this topic; SUBSCRIBED! 💪😉
thanks for the video. i would love a vid on what camera apps (paid or not) that will bring out the best in a phone's camera-being a chinaphone/custom rom fan, often the proprietary camera apps are lacking- and i would like to know which app is worth the time or money investment, if any at all. thanks for your content!
Hey I just love your videos can you explain what makes for the iPhone or the Samsung S8 cameras much much better than the cheapest smartphones when the performance that is the speed of the smart phone is now almost ok across $200 versus $800 smartphone but the camera it just seems 4 times better on a $800 smartphone why is it
Well explained and its so simple to follow your lessons, Thanks! Your last sentence is a real "KICK" 。。。I love it. 。。。If you want to meddle with all of them, go get a DSLR。。。haha!
Any recommendations for the best 3rd party camera apps that have a good shutter speed control. The galaxy phones have a ten second timer which I love, but I'm trying to find one that is longer.
Explain video manual aswell pls. What does 30fp and 60 fp do. I see a bit rate option on my phone (lg v20). Is it better to have high bit rate with low 30fp. When i put high bit rate with 60fp the stabilizer turns off. Whats the best mode

If this guy was a teacher, we would have seen flying cars instead of fidget spinners...
I think he's actually a professor
that moment when i used a fidget spinner that was laying around to practice that motion setting
What's a fidget spinner and what does it have to do with photography. I always use Manual. And I have my metering on the shortcut button so I can change it at a moments notice.
Gary, please explain the meaning of life

Manual/Pro mode is a great feature to have especially for those mobile photographers and instagrammers.
Auto mode has gotten very good but having a Manual mode can offer advantages for creativity and customization.
Gary is the best, i can understand easily what he is saying, should've been a professor
Thanks Garry will forward this to my friend who is constantly taking pictures and messing with Manual mode.
i need to watch all of Gary's videos he explains so many things in his videos
Thank you very much. I've been using pro/manual mode lately and slowly getting used to it.
Wait every week for latest 'Gary Explains', awesome series.
You can use low ISO indoors as long as you compensation with lower shutter speed and/or bigger apperture.
Gary, was an excellent break down of shooting in manual mode. Please do more tutorials if possible. Thank-you Sir
@ Gary Sims

Thanks Julian I appreciate it. As a matter of interest, why do you think our phone reviews are terrible?
Been scouring the internet for this kind of explanation. Thank heavens I finally found it! I need a transcription of this.
I am going to try manual mood after watching this guys. I never understood manual mood until now.
I'm a simple man, I see Gary I press like.
As you said, the manual mode on a smartphone is just to play around, now and then I take some fun pics on manual just to make a "style" in it.
I really love this series. Thank you so much my good Sir Gary.
Very useful video Gary! I'll try out the manual mode soon. Looks very fun to play with.

I like his introductory line, "let me explain"
Thanks Gary! That was helpful.
I once had my friend write his name using a lighter while I used 10 seconds shutter speed, it was fun
I did photography in college with all film cameras (No digital back then!) and I do 3D animation for work now, which uses the same camera settings so I do occasionally use manual mode, in fact I like the app called Manual Camera. Most of the time I just use the regular automatic mode though.
Very detailed mobile photo vídeo, i watched a lot but this was what I was really looking for..
Gary is the education Don!
Thank you Gary. You understand that we nerds want details and how to present them.
I have an lg v30 and i live on manual mode, expecially the closeup shots. I love manual focus that is what I use the most, I find it more percise

Great tutorial. Learned a lot
Can you explain more about the pro mode camera or give some examples how to use it
Sony phone users should watch this!
LeBeautiful indeed. You can get some fantastic results on XZ but only on Manual.
Yeah lol i have z3 compact
VoloKin Project I was able to get some great shots with my XZ with almost no light. I love playing with the shutter speed, but I feel that Sony could give us a wider set of options (a bit more time). Maybe with O(reo) we get something...
Thats what's we thought about lollipop and api2, no more sony for me going for v20 just because i love manual controls
+dovydas aukstuolis they gotta up their game with a second sensor or extend the slo-mo as well as finally sorting out the Auto mode. Great potential, but poor execution unfortunately.

Much needed upload. Thanks Garry!
Hi Gary, please, can you tell us which phone are you using in the video? I have never seen the color temperature manual control on any smartphone!

I used spot-metering for years on my film camera's and had 100% success rate
I now use manual mode on my OnePlus5T and have the same fun! 🙂🙂

Love Gary's videos!
Any recommendations for the best 3rd party camera apps that have a good shutter speed control. The galaxy phones have a ten second timer which I love, but I'm trying to find one that is longer.
Tbh, as i use an iPhone as my main device this video was very helpful. But i still barely take any photos.
thanks you for making this video
Explain video manual aswell pls. What does 30fp and 60 fp do. I see a bit rate option on my phone (lg v20). Is it better to have high bit rate with low 30fp. When i put high bit rate with 60fp the stabilizer turns off. Whats the best mode
Rambo G high fp makes ur video smoother... it's better..
Techno Geek not always better but ok
To make it simpler it's capture more motion than 30fps and higher bit rate is also better but dor normal use 30 fps is good it takes less space
Xx BigBoss xX better In what way?
@@javianbrown8627 its always better, console user?
just saw 8 guys who claim to be first, I guess then I get the position of the second
I am first
This helps a lot and i'm using mi 8 se
