    Thanks, that was useful to find my way around, coming from the earlier Luminar 4. I tried the initial release of Neo on a great sale, but it was sorely lacking and seemed to have been released to make a promised date. It appears to work much better now. I did see a "favorites" in my adjustment panel that contains Enhance and Sky AI but I don't yet see how to add my favorite tools into that section. It is not visible in your screenshots, so perhaps it was just added with the latest update.

    Hello Anthony. I"m very excited since I just licensed the pro version of Luminar Neo. I've never done any photo editing so this should be challenging. I'm going through this tutorial and immediately noticed that I don't have a histogram display. Is this an option that I need to set? Do you have a tutorial on how to set up the Luminar Neo workspace? Pretty sure I'll have a lot of questions but this is it for now. Cheers!

    Great video, i'm kind of new to Neo, have been playing around with it for a while but finally moved from Lightroom. One thing I do miss from lightroom as a mature is the quick develop tool, but I guess Enhance AI is the rough equivalent, and I also struggle with the masking, more when trying to refine the mask to include or remove other elements, it feels like the extensions (background removal for example) don't give you the same red mask overlay which is a bit confusing and I seem to find myself trying to remember where my arm is in the photo rather than having the pic to paint over? But that aside great video your Luminar vids are what prompted me to buy several months ago so thanks.

    Your tutorials are what motivate me to purchase Luminar Neo subscription. I have been using it for a while now. All the filters and edit is easy to do and I can always delete them. However, with the Crop, once I apply, I cannot seems to "undo". Am I missing something obvious?

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 года назад +1

      Hi. Just re-open the crop tool and press the little revert arrow in the top right of the palette. That'll reset the crop to before you made any changes. Alternatively just grab the handles and move them to where you want the crop to be. But there's no "undo" as such, ie stepping back one iteration of change at a time.

    isn't composition the first hing to do? as the develop tools are influenced by what is in the jmage?

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 года назад

      Unless there's something crazy going on in the perimeter of the frame I'm not really too worried about any slight discrepancies there. Personally I like to edit a shot as I captured it and then have the flexibility to crop differently down the road, knowing that if I reintroduce someof the image for a new composition (different web format, print size, instagram etc) it's still going to look good across the whole frame.

  • @BrettOssman

    I still like Lightroom as my catalogue. Is there a way to edit a RAW photo in Neo and import the photo with the RAW edits into the Lightroom catalogue? I know I could probably use TIFF, but want to keep the initial import as RAW. I also use multiple tools and would like to stay RAW as much as possible, but that's probably not be doable. Also, I suspect not all Neo edits keep the photo RAW. It will convert at some point?

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 года назад

      Hi Brett. Yes lightroom is a great tool for cataloguing photos. I use it a lot for that reason. I also recently started using bit.ly/Excire for it's superior catalogue features but good integration with Neo. Any changes we make to a file mean it is no longer a raw image so it's not possible to pass it from Neo to LR or vice versa with edits in tact. DNG is a good format for keeping raw and the instructions for processing together but this only tends to work well with Adobe software handling the file. For now the Luminar edits have to be "baked in" through the export process.

  • @gracehowie630
    @gracehowie630 2 года назад

    Hi Anthony, I have started using Luminar Neo the past couple of day (have bought it pre release) and been watching your tutorials, very helpful.
    Did you come across banding issues? It becomes really obvious after I imported the finished edits, not usable at all.
    Trying to search for a way to fix it and seems like there were quite a few complaints to Skylum and so far no solutions from them.

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 года назад +1

      Hi Grace. No banding that I've noticed but it's always a possibility the further the edit goes along and the further you manipulate the image. Starting with raw and using good export settings (eg 16bit vs 8 bit or AdobeRGB vs sRGB) will help minimise any banding issues.

    You mentioned in the video that if multiple photos are being edited in a series it's best to make sure they match tonally. Is there a way in Luninar to save edits as presets to make it easier to apply the edits across multiple photos?

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 года назад

      There's currently no option to create your own preset, but you can sync tools between photos. I have a method that works well where I export the corrected versions and then run a batch colour grade / finishing process over the top. It works a treat.

    • @YoSpiff

      Hi Reuben. The RAW develop will move to the edits section as it's the first thing applied. It's still accessible after a preset is applied. I'd normally put a preset on first as part of a preset workflow. You could also clone and save out a new file to edit as an option. So you would recommend this program for beginners to edit their CRAW photos from a Canon EOS R7.
    If i get the lifetime one off package (instead of having to pay yearly) do I need to get the extensions pack?

    • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  2 года назад +1

      Hi Jason, it should be good. I edit Nikon D850 raw files which are pretty big, data-rich files and it does a great job, so I can't see why the same wouldn't be true with files from the R7. The extension pack is a "nice to have" but it's not essential to do good editing. Neo is a fully functioning editor without the extensions.
      If you decide to go for it, it'd be awesome if you could go via bit.ly/Luminar-NEO this link. Best current price and helps me out with my channel because of a small commission 😀
