Sheila LaShay I loved and dreaded Gyp at the same time....only problem was, Bobby Cannavale tended to chew scenery. But always unforgettable, riveting performances. I was glad and relieved to see Gyp go. It was indeed a mystery how someone as sociopathic, cruel, petulant and impulsive could have possibly risen as high as he did. Gyp Rosetti had some serious mental firepower, but not enough to really run with these big dogs...who were even more smart and cunning.

It usually worked but many people died from the anesthesia and not from what ailed them. I mean, that still happens today but not at the rate it did then.
He makes the same face when he goes to Tabor Heights to pretend to make a deal with him as soon as Gyp tells the newspaper boy which room he’s staying in. I knew as soon as he made that face that he must have had something planned.
Doesn’t help the situation to also lose it because someone else is losing it. It’s almost a side effect of ramping up the other person when you don’t match that energy and just take whatever they throw at you in stride. Especially the petty nonsense. It’s weird how not getting upset makes someone else upset.
He had all the cards... No matter what he was going to say wether he agreed to the new arrangement or not at the end of the day he'll have no other choice but to either find a new supplier or buy from Rothstein with a high markup.
Bobby Cannavale as Gyp Rosetti was a truly scary guy. You just never knew when he was about to blow up for no reason at all. Bobby is a fantastic actor!
Because he knows that in the end of the day, Rosetti can talk as much shit as he likes, if he wants to buy some booze he has to do it from him. And prices just got up...... exponentially.

Gyp Rosetti is amongst my favorite TV villains of all time. Bobby Cannavale did an extraordinary job, especially since he joined Boardwalk Empire three seasons in and was the main antagonist for it and had so much screen time. Incredible actor and my favorite show!

I think the actor was probably straining his last nerve to keep from breaking character and laughing right out loud. That must have been a fun scene for everybody on the set.

One of them--Yale--isn't even affected one way or another: he was infamous for mainly serving cheap, low-grade stuff (hence Rosetti's insult).
Great scene. I saw outtakes of this and the actors claimed Cannavale ad libbed most of this and none of them knew what he was going to say that's why their reactions are so real and funny.

That silent moment when Nucky talks about his decision being made easier and Gyp stops long enough to realize that he was singling himself out in a den of jackals was perfect. He's a good example of a guy who got where he is by being hyper violent and aggressive...but eventually that stops working. If you can't play the politics and diplomacy, you're never going to get far in the upper echelons, and viciousness isn't going to cut it when you've pissed off every single person in the room enough to want you dead. He just couldn't let anything even resembling an insult to him go, and that made him weaker than he was capable of perceiving. Hence, why he dies on a beach in a puddle of urine, choking on his blood after being stabbed by his own guys.
Yep, and as soon as he let on that he was lashing out from financial pressure he marked himself as prey. Everyone was laughing inside and wondering what kind of amateur clown only has one plate spinning at a time, and planning how to screw him over.
The only reason that he left this place not injured, or even not killed, is that he had Masseria behind his back. However, probably he wouldn't have got invited otherwise. There was no place for small players there.

The timing of the outside New Years audiences’ Ooooohs and laughs are another amazing little detail. Like they’re responding to Nucky’s sick burn, and laughing at Rosetti’s look of defeat, and then him facing the rest of the room with the laughter continuing, as if everybody seated there were silently all mentally laughing at his tantrum. He then tries to deescalate out of acceptance of defeat, and maybe of the irony of the situation, by saying “Nobody here can take a joke”. I’m a sucker for writing shit like this.
Yeah, the shot of him getting stared down HARD by every damn person in the room is so good. Really just perfect, like his own mental soundtrack cracking at the seams as he realizes he's the joke.
Rohit Gupta Luciano was a very dangerous man,but Al was dangerous and smart,payed those that could help him and killed those that wouldn't ! This was his advantage over most,and ultimately his rise to power.
Robert Cannavale absolutely killed this role. He played him so well that you believe he was only born to play Gyp Rosetti. He made us absolutely despise everything about him. His short fuse also had us guessing what will he do next. But he also always made us laugh with his rants and insults.

Remus thought his reaction was over the top, but Gyp's point was he is worse off than the others because he is not making as much money, hence not being in the same boat as the others. The news from Nucky will not set Remus back as much. But Gyp has to buy his booze from elsewhere and it will not be cheap for him either.

Gyp has to answer to Masseria, who'd naturally not be very thrilled to find out one of his underlings wasn't making as much dough for him.
The others are either their own bosses (Nucky, Rothstein, Yale, and Remus) or are working for Rothstein (Luciano and Lansky), so their main worry is money, not the ire of the boss they work for. One of them--Yale--isn't even affected one way or another: he was infamous for mainly serving cheap, low-grade stuff (hence Rosetti's insult).
This never gets old, one of the best scenes ever. These are prime actors.

Great scene. I saw outtakes of this and the actors claimed Cannavale ad libbed most of this and none of them knew what he was going to say that's why their reactions are so real and funny.

I love Charlie’s face at 1:43 you can totally tell he’s like “ oh fuck here we go” even Myers stopped smoking for a second and gave gyp that look. You can also see the pure rage in Charlie’s face after he’s called short pants.

That silent moment when Nucky talks about his decision being made easier and Gyp stops long enough to realize that he was singling himself out in a den of jackals was perfect. He's a good example of a guy who got where he is by being hyper violent and aggressive...but eventually that stops working. If you can't play the politics and diplomacy, you're never going to get far in the upper echelons, and viciousness isn't going to cut it when you've pissed off every single person in the room enough to want you dead.
He just couldn't let anything even resembling an insult to him go, and that made him weaker than he was capable of perceiving. Hence, why he dies on a beach in a puddle of urine, choking on his blood after being stabbed by his own guys.

Yep, and as soon as he let on that he was lashing out from financial pressure he marked himself as prey. Everyone was laughing inside and wondering what kind of amateur clown only has one plate spinning at a time, and planning how to screw him over.
The only reason that he left this place not injured, or even not killed, is that he had Masseria behind his back. However, probably he wouldn't have got invited otherwise. There was no place for small players there.

He is basically a soldier with more influence, while they know the business world, he knows violence. They know that he is dangerous and thats why he is even able to unsult them without being interrupted, except for Nucky who should probably have chosen to be a bit more tactical here, similar to rothstein, seeing who is behind gyp.

The timing of the outside New Years audiences’ Ooooohs and laughs are another amazing little detail. Like they’re responding to Nucky’s sick burn, and laughing at Rosetti’s look of defeat, and then him facing the rest of the room with the laughter continuing, as if everybody seated there were silently all mentally laughing at his tantrum. He then tries to deescalate out of acceptance of defeat, and maybe of the irony of the situation, by saying “Nobody here can take a joke”. I’m a sucker for writing shit like this.
Yeah, the shot of him getting stared down HARD by every damn person in the room is so good. Really just perfect, like his own mental soundtrack cracking at the seams as he realizes he's the joke.

Me and my friends would replay this scene over and over laughing our asses off. Such a great scene, wish Gyp was on it longer.
He was great. But Gyp was too much a loose cannon to have lasted much more. He had no filters whatsoever, and was uncontrollably violent.

Robert Cannavale absolutely killed this role. He played him so well that you believe he was only born to play Gyp Rosetti. He made us absolutely despise everything about him. His short fuse also had us guessing what will he do next. But he also always made us laugh with his rants and insults.
