I agree. I hate the idea that you NEED to read diverse authors, because I read what seems interesting to me and I'm not going to be forced to read books just because the authors are not white dudes. It does end up feeling like pandering and I feel is dishonest towards those authors.
It feels more and more like some people are reading ONLY because of the authors identity. I see so many booktubers and booktokers practically admitting that they do this. They read to virtue signal, because deep down they care more about their political image than anything else.
