    The Game Over message when the gen explodes is about how everything stops working, yet you just proved you can manage a proper working city with an unworking generator. Sure enough, when it gets down to -80 C it's impossible to survive. But If that were to be an actual scenario in real life, inside a crater like this, I would have the wall drill pretty much dig a hole large enough for the people to take refuge in there when it gets way too cold and burn the wood as they dig. At least, I'm pretty sure that would work.

    • @AlwaysSomeone
      @AlwaysSomeone 4 года назад +17

      You’d have to put scaffolding in as you went in order to avoid a cave-in.
      There would also be a risk of smoke suffocating everyone inside.
      And the big problem of food.
      Solve those, and yeah, pretty survivable.
      Sounds like a neat origin story for a civilization of Dwarves.

      According to the artifacts that you find in the frostlands, living in snow dwellings is too "below" for the people of London. Bunch of choosing beggars I tell ya. At least here in Canada, it would just be another tuesday of our winters for us.

    • @ancapftw9113
      @ancapftw9113 5 лет назад +52

      I never got why people didn't move under ground. Sure, you would need to bring in air and vent smoke, and couldn't farm without fancy grow lights, but the ice would insulate the living area really well. You could keep it at -1C even during the big freeze for very little coal use.
      If you really want to put stuff above ground, use only put down the things that have to be there and use Automatons to run them. A single steam hub could run all of your hothouses. Beacons, hunting, and storage can just be built anywhere.

    Great idea of run and in fact you inspired me.
    I started a new run today on Serenity (so, you know...easy peasy right), except I went for Rifts/Extreme/Utopia/no generator.
    At the beginning it was looking real easy, plenty of peoples, plenty of ressources and early tiers sturctures already researched...And then the first group of survivors came.
    That's something I wasn't excpected but surivor groups on Serenity, it's not 3o peoples like on Endurance, it's over 1oo assholes assaulting your food rations and health care.
    Then the first storm came and I got nearly 2oo sicks during the night.
    Obviously, many peoples died from that situation, this run is ridiculous, I love it so, thanks for the idea.

    I wonder if they are going to add a scenario "City of children" or something along these lines. Say, as a continuation to the second worst ending of Winterholm exodus, where you put a bare minimum of crew and all of the children on the dreadnought and leave... A few days later dreadnought breaks, most of adults are dead, but (luckily) there is a generator and a dead city nearby.
    Basically, all (or 98%) of adults are dead, so you have a crapton of little buggers and no way to feed them without putting them to dangerous work.
    And then fighting pits, prostheses, "long pig" soup and other wonderful things happen.

    I understand that new tech levels are supposed to cost more, so you have to strive to reach them, but it seems very silly to me in a meta sense. By the end of the tech tree you have invested 12 and a half houses worth of just wood into drafting boards, and other machines to continue your research... how? How did you need almost a house and a half of wood just to build some boards to draw on? Where the hell did you even put all of it? The workshop should have exploded by now with all the materials you've stuffed into it.
