Never understood why Sleepy isn't more commercially known. He's an astonishing performer who appeals to rockabilly fans as much as country ones. And he's kept company with the best. Just not had as much success.
...great clip..thnx.. for all those who think Sleepy La Beef is a not known singer/artist...i tell u that i live in Greece, and i know him and his music for many years now (since the 80's)... as most of the people who listen to Rockabilly music down here... he is not my favorite, but i have huge respect for the guy... thanks, and keep up all the great work!!!
I saw Sleepy playing in a bar in East Moline, Ill. 1967 when I was 21. I was shocked when I found out a few years ago that he was still playing. He was born in 1935 - same year as Elvis - and is still performing. He sells his CDs on his website, He has some great tunes. Thanks for posting this video.
I saw him shortly after this playing at The Sir George Robey with the Wangford band (without Hank and Cissy). It was hilarious - they really didn't know what was coming next. The encore was about ten songs in five minutes.
The song you search is Blackland Farmer, originaly recorded by Frankie Miller. You can also listen Poppin'Johnny and Family réunion by Frankie Miller and many others are great too.

Because the best music has always been sort of underground.
You got that right!
i was there that night. he was a force of nature, one of the great gigs of my life
What’s the story here? Where’s the harmonica player? Why are there a bunch of old people quietly sitting at cocktail tables?
This is the only time I've ever heard someone cover this song and it not sound stupid.. lol great cover
I jammed with him back in the 90's Awesome Rockabilly/country artist he was!
RIP Sleepy......Godspeed
Nice! Good performance.
