My Grandfather is Angelo Ferraro. He was Sergeant in the 101st Airborne division
    502 Parachute Regiment.
I will never forget hearing these stories from him as a child. He was very animated in his recollections sound affects of bombs exploding around them and all the chaos.
The story of the soldier that got caught in the church steeple and played dead to avoid enemy gunfire was one he told us that I vividly remember to this day.

my Father was second wave at Normandy. He was 26 days on the ground and bailed out the 101st that were pinned down and then was blown up by a mortar shell. He spent two months in the hospital in England. They made him an honorary Screamin Eagle. He was very proud and was buried with the Eagle Flag

Both of my grandparents fought in WWII.
1 was a tank commander, the other was in the Navy aboard a battleship.
He took Montgomery ashore from his ship on one occasion.
My other grandfather didn't talk about the war. He obviously saw some horrific things.
He was a staunch man who seemed well adjusted, but I'm not sure how he could be!

    Elwin "johnny" Johnson.
He told me he and his platoon were dropped just outside an enemy base...they fought and took it over.

I was named after my grandfather William Jubak - a medic in the 101st Airborne. He enlisted as a medic because he didn't want to kill anyone. We still have the bandage pouch from his kit that stopped a bullet from entering his body during the drop. God bless America and the brave men and women who fought to keep our country safe, then, now, and forever.

There is a famous photo of General Eisenhower visiting the 101st on the eve of D-Day, Why were these paratroopers wearing a white strip of cloth on their left shoulder (epaulette)?

Excellent! Well deserving of the label of "The Greatest Generation". Only problem is with the editing of this video...the audio of the individual interviews is way too low. I think it's the background music which is masking the voices.
