WOW!!! Thank you for this!! I was about to order the kit for my Mustang! I run an edelbrock... never had a problem with it, I just wanted EFI... If it ain't broke... THANK YOU!!
One bad thing about a AOD and a old car is that if you know the wiring on the trans the car can be stolen in like 1 min by just using the trans. Came across this with my '69 Torino. TV adjustment was fine using Locar kit.
Good luck with the AOD, can't say i had any luck with mine , lots of money wasted many times.
And for engine mounts factory mounts work fine , and less vibration, just drill thought the lh mount, use a counter sink allen bolt with a nylock nut , don't tighten up leave some clearance- no more breaking mounts, works great
That’s why I’m about to put a 4r70w in it. My AOD didn’t last either.
Thanks for watching!
Factory did not use gaskets on the exhaust manifolds as you don't need them and they just cause problems. As long as the head and manifold surfaces are flat it will seal fine. You also won't have problems with the bolts backing off. They back off with gaskets because the gaskets relax and when that happens you loose the bolt clamping force which is also why the gaskets fail. The other reason the factory did not use gaskets is get better heat transfer iron to iron.
Thanks for watching!
Usually the torque is on theback of the packaging on Remflex gaskets, they are the best, great video.
Thanks for watching!
Thumbs up.
Just did this job! Super cool well worth it but I’m a lot more nervous since the c4 I had before was pretty much bullet proof and the aod is supposedly very picky about its adjustments. Just an at home diy mechanic
The AOD is super picky about the TV adjustment. That’s actually the reason why the car hasn’t been back on after the install. Smoked it within a couple days of installing it. I followed the TV setting properly but still ended up having problems. I will be going to a 4R70W next with an external controller.
Thanks for watching!
Back in my day as an army aviation mechanic, safety wire pliers were forbidden. Sure would have been nice to have them.
The FAA tells you to hand twist the wire. Pliers really help to keep it tight! Just gotta watch the kinks and nicks.
Thanks for watching!
As a fellow dad i appreciate the corny dad jokes lol
Thanks for watching!!!
Coolness brother. Reading the comments, I see that you smoked the trans. Sorry about that. Any idea how that happened given that you set the TV pressure correctly? It looks like a used (not rebuilt) trans. Did the mighty Cleveland finish it off? Looks like you may be using a Lokar throttle cable. If so, can you give us the part number. Keep up the good work buddy.
I believe I have a bad Valve Body. Pressure was inconsistent, pressed on regardless of instructions and advice. Ended up with a slipping trans in OD. Never been told I’m a smart man……
@@meatsrodshop7116 im building an AOD right now with a constant pressure valve body made by silver fox trans. I will let you know how it works out.
Good video. Will you be posting a video for the Dakota Digital gauges?
That’s the plan. Hopefully in the next couple weeks. Thanks for watching!
did you use a different floor shifter ?
No sir, used the stock console shifter. Thanks for watching!!!
Did i miss it? What trans is this?
Standard AOD trans, will be going 4R70W soon. Thanks for watching!
@@meatsrodshop7116 what are you gonna use to control it?
Why not just make it a manual. Needs that third pedal.
It’s the family cruiser. All of the other classics are manuals, want to leave this one an auto. Old knees and bad traffic don’t mix with manuals! Thanks for watching!
@@meatsrodshop7116I would love switching my 71 auto to manual but don't want all the work associated or expense. I also don't want those 3000+ freeway revs using 3.50 gear in back but Gear Vendors overdrive is not an option due to exhaust system. We willl see but I need the car just running again. Do you know how much your 70 weighs?
