Whoever created Snagglepus was a genius. One of the best cartoon characters ever, so cool calm and collected, up there with Marvin the Martian, Bullwinkle J Moose and Mutley.
Snagglepuss is so multi-dimensional; all age-groups are able to find something about him to enjoy, from the usual cartoon slapstick for the kids right up to the "is he or isn't he?" posed by those with more life-experience. As you say, a truly remarkable creation, especially for the time.
And For some reason his voice came into my head while talking to my 17 yr old son today and so I searched for it. Thanks for sharing! They don’t make ‘‘em like they used to… even
"I'm sitting on a tack & it's hurts" How could Yakky miss seeing a tack before he sat down!? He's so short that the tack would probably be big as his foot.😆
You mean, it "quacks" you up .... and yes, me too! That little duckie is the cutest thing in all of cartoonery! Cartoonhood? Cartoonness? Or to "snaggle" a quip from that other great 'toon, "Rocky and Bullwinkle" ... The Ruby Yacht of Omar Cartoon??? OK, I'm reaching ....
I'm a fan of Bert Lahr of Oz movie fame. I believe he sued Hanna-Barbera for "ripping-off" his voice for this character. I don't recall the outcome of the case but apparently Mr. Lahr frequently sued or insisted a voice be changed when he thought, or was brought to his attention, that a cartoon voice appeared to be imitating his own unique, famous one. Perhaps I'm thinking of Linus the Lionhearted. Anyone remember that character? It & a slew of others on the Linus show were created for General Mills, which featured the characters in commercials & on the boxes of several of their cereals, a practice later outlawed by the FCC or some other such fed agency. In memory, admittedly very vague, Linus sounded similar to Mr. Lahr's' voice, too.
The lawsuit led to Daws Butler receiving screen credit when ever he did a commercial voicing Snagglepuss in order to clarify that he was doing the voice instead of Lahr.. Butler was likely the first person to receive such credit.
“You’re a duck, ergo, he shoots ya!”
"Oh! Oh!"
You understand?
Nope
@@wackojacko0295 "Then why do you keep saying 'Oh! Oh!' as if you do?"
Because I'm sittin' on a tack. And it hurts. Oh, oh!
I never realized how hilarious Snagglepuss is. It’s not just the voice but the things he says.
I was a Pink Panther addict when I was little; but, sadly, somehow I missed out on Snagglepuss.
Snag's the original "pink panther"!
I mean he's a pink big cat but snagglepuss is a mountain lion

The duck sounds like Donald Duck!
Primarily because that is the voice of Donald Duck.
Disco duck. 💃🕺
Actually Jimmy Weldon voiced Yakky. Not Clarence Nash who was Donald.
Jimmy based the voice on his character Webster Webfoot.
"I'm sitting on a tack & it's hurts"
How could Yakky miss seeing a tack before he sat down!? He's so short that the tack would probably be big as his foot.😆
