This scene is pure poetic. Whoever visualized and expressed Jiang Cheng's world collapsed once again deserve some kind of visual award. Except the debris, I can found Madam Yu's hair crown and the Jiang's bell floating around, they were all gone.

What some of you might not know is that the reason JC lost his core was WY at first place. He baited himself to Wens to save Wei Ying and Wei Ying sacrificed his own core because he knew Jiang Cheng’s dreams would crush and he wouldnt be a leader without his cultivation. They both sacrificed so much for each other that it actually hurts seeing them so close yet so far

It's shown in the anime too, though it's not explicitly stated so I guess it's easy to miss.
When Jiang Cheng reflects back on the moment, you can see that he is calmly waiting and then notices Wen clan members. Then he suddenly runs out in clear sight of them, not even attempting to sneak away, and they run after him.
What's implied here is that Jiang Cheng realized that bc WWX was out shopping, they would find him first. So Jiang Cheng purposefully made the Wens see him so that they would chase after him, thus leading them away from where WWX was.
The next part is just my speculation (idk if it's said in the novel), but knowing how the Wens work, it is also veeery likely they interrogated, threatened and tortured Jiang Cheng about where WWX was. Since they didn't return for WWX, that means Jiang stayed silent.

The Untamed live action showed that Jiang Cheng was out wandering around the streets and happened to see Wei Ying about to get caught by the guards searching for him. So Jiang Cheng decided to sacrifice himself to save Wei Ying. In a voice-over he even says, "Take care of my sister. I'll leave her to you." meaning that he knows he's going to die if he baits the guards to go after him. So he's sacrificing his own life to save Wei Ying's who will then protect his sister from that point on. He didn't expect Wei Ying to do the same for him (give his Golden Core to him). Jiang Cheng doesn't tell Wei Ying what he did for him and Wei Ying didn't tell Jiang Cheng what he did for him either. The two are really quite a lot alike in that aspect. They care for eachother enough to sacrifice eachother for the other one. But don't want to tell them that bc they don't want them to feel like they owe the other person. It made the viewers and Wei Ying think that Jiang Cheng was simply impatient and rushed out to kill the Wens. But then revealed the truth to the viewers (not to Wei Ying which is a shame) about what really happened.@@kontiimanalatit8987

The golden core scene is very well adapted for animation!!! Colors, music, emotions... Ahhh so good!!!!
I've seen a lot of people get upset about the JC scene, but I think it's adapted very closely to the novel. I don't know why those who read the novel were so surprised :/
JC needs time, yes it's true. He has to reflect on his own mistakes and decisions, and then move on.
WWX and JC have never had the same morale, and JC always wanted WWX to be his subordinate. That's not what WWX is, that's not what he wants.
WWX is very happy with LWJ, they have the same values, see each other as equals and understand each other very well.
Reconciliation is not always necessary. I think sometimes it's better without reconciliation.

All adaptations of the core reveal (bar manhua because we’re not there yet) were really good. I’m not going to compare which one better or what’s accurate because the animation consciously took a slightly different take in terms of the timeline that changes the tone it’s set and the resulting in a much more bitter resolution for Jiang Cheng. I do like it going deep into the symbolism of what was going on his mind. It’s a mess of confusion, chaos and debris of memories, emotions and things past and you can’t rebuild anything with that around. As painful as it is, by knowing the truth it flushed out the confusing chaos and turned it into emptiness. It’s painful to restart, however emptiness, can be filled again, this time with stronger foundations. He released it all by taking it out on Wei Ying as a consequence and symbolising he has to let him go as well to fully heal. I do feel like many others feel raw emotions about this. Some might dislike this version of Jiang Cheng for taking his vitriol out on Wei Ying when he was so weak and vulnerable but people forget he has only just found out and has not had opportunity to process it at all. The key factor here is time. He had time to reflect in the other adaptations. At least a few days but here he literally just found out, things were going to be raw and bitter so his opportunity to confront and have an honest talk with Wei Ying couldn’t be done. They can’t give their apologies, that’s why it hurts so much more. I would’ve liked a special episode or something to allow that reconciliation to happen but for now, I‘ll go reread/rewatch/re-listen to the other adaptations to ease the pain of this scene. It is beautifully done. Painful but beautiful

It's my first time experiencing this story and sad as it is, I think if reconcilliation is possible it has to be Jiang Cheng who reaches out and admits fault. It's his stubborn pride and inferiority complex making it impossible for him to ever admit to having done the wrong thing, to having betrayed his brother long before Wuxian betrayed him. He still longs for that last connection to his family, but won't be satisfied unless Wuxian takes all the blame and grovels for forgiveness so he can finally feel superior. It's remarkably human, like a story we've all heard from others families or our own, so I'm really impressed with the author.

Jiang Cheng is one of my favorite characters in anything ever. He’s so complex. He loves his brother. He isn’t allowed to love his brother, so he’s angry at him. He discovers that the thing that tore him from his brother is entirely the result of his brother making a unfathomably selfless sacrifice FOR HIM. All that time, all those years spent being angry and making the wrong choices simply because Wei Wuxian didn’t TELL him about the core transfer. He’s made awful mistakes he can never take back, all out of love and duty and stress. He’s EXTREMELY human and fallible and such a compelling character.
I love this scene. How it visualizes Jiang Cheng’s entire worldview collapsing around him, how even though it is, he chooses to stand up and bear the weight of it; and then collapses to his knees when Wei Wuxian gets further away from him once again, as a result of Jiang Cheng’s own actions.
    Absolutely gut wrenching.

I'm so proud of Wen ning, he was just a shy boy back then but now that he lost pretty much everything he has confidence to speak his mind but still keeping his warm heart. JC needed to know this, he is always acting so cocky but without WY he would had died, he needed a dose of humility because he thinks he is above everyone but in fact he isn't. I know that is not just his fault, he grew with a lot of insecurities thanks to his parents but his character never developed, he is stuck in the past and he became evil torturing innocent people just because he was obsessed with Wwx. He is also extremely ungrateful after all the things the Wen siblings did for him he didn't move a finger when they were killed, so yeah Wen Ning owes nothing to him is actually the opposite and I'm so glad that he told him the things as they are, like it or not he will never be on Wei Ying's level, he doesn't have the strength, the resilience, the ability or the intelligence and most important he doesn't have his heart. Thanks to his pride he lost everyone and he is a lonely and bitter man that no one wants to get close to, he made unforgettable mistakes and he has to live with it, is too late for him now he wasted too much time hating, caring about other's opinions and sinking in resentment and self pity

it isnt that he doesnt care or he is ungrateful. he's the leader of the clan and he often finds himself in impossible situation. to put it short, he puts his clan first above everything else (even WY), he resents WY so much because WY didnt. instead of placing the clan first, WY always choose to do what he thinks is the right thing to do. in a way, it feels like a betrayal, that WY is choosing to side outsider instead of the Jiang Clan. there was a part when they were both arguing agressively and JC said it clearly in the end, that if WY does not follow what the crowd wants, than JC is unable to protect him anymore. JC is doing everything he can to protect him from the other clans, but WY is doing the exact opposite. everything that WY does is making him the enemy. i guess it's like WY is extremely courageous to the point that he dont care even if everyone sees him as an enemy. but JC is just a man with weakness, he is just not as heroic or brave like WY.

      I agree with what you're saying 100%.
In my opinion, I think Jiang Cheng has been angry all these years not because he felt Wei Ying owes him anything (which he does from time to time as he still views WY as his subordinate), but I think his problem is that he has never been able to let go of the dream he dreamt of being the Clan Leader and having his brother WY by his side.
He felt abandoned by WY when WY left the Jiang Clan to save the refugees of the Wen Clan, especially as he was still processing his grief of losing his mother and his father. He never understood that WY wasn't doing it to "abandon" JC, WY was doing it because he also once was a helpless homeless kid living on the streets and if it hadn't been for Jiang Fengmian, he wouldn't have made it this far in life. So he feels the need to protect helpless people as he sees himself in them.
If only WY and JC were able to communicate with each other and understand each other's perspectives. If only WY was able to tell JC the truth about the golden core and his practising demonic cultivation. If only JC had stood by his brother and realised that even though WY was extremely powerful, the newly built Jiang Clan's leader supporting WY would've greatly helped WY and silenced a lot of the haters.....
I think WY and JC's tale is the most tragic in the entire novel/show/donghua. I get soooo angry and then I feel a deep sadness at how tragic and desperate their tale was. 😭😭😭

No matter what good Wei did he gave the Wens the excuse they needed to attack Lotus cove.
So many people died for him to do the right thing and I adore Wei I do but by god Cheng spent his entire life living in Wei's shadow, lost everything to him, saw his mother and fathers relationship struggle since Wei was bought home and thats NOT something you can just let go, all he asked in return was Wei joined him at his side and he didnt even do that.
So hell yes Wei owes him. He dragged him through hell, through shame and caused him to lose all and have to rebuild alone, damned straight he has a good reason to hurt.
I dont think many people look at how everything Wei does affect Cheng as a clan leader and brother, as he keeps having to answer for him or apologize for him and that gets old real fast.

@Blue Raspberry Cat I understand that loosing a family member hurts, and it may never stop hurting, but it does get better with time as people learn to deal with their loss. Also, how is JC’s parents fighting when his dad brought WY home WY’s fault? What was he supposed to do? Where else could he have gone? Was he supposed to be sorry for being born? That is not in his control. As for the attack on Lotus Pier, the Wen’s probably would have attacked regardless, as long as JC’s parents put up any kind of resistance to the Wens’ demands. JC’s sister and her husband dying wasn’t necessarily WY’s fault, as he could normally control his demonic cultivation just fine. It was only when the tiger amulet was corrupted and he was set up by JG that things went awry. Yes, WY did have plenty of mishaps and screw ups where JC had to pick up after him, but I think you are letting WY carry way more of the blame for JC’s problems than is warranted. And yes, JC does have the right to be upset, but getting angry at WY and pushing him away now isn’t going to help the situation or their relationship at all, and from what I have seen, it isn’t making JC feel any better.

Here's how I see it. JC's relationship with WWX in the beginning was good, but as JC was the youngest sibling, he began to rely too heavily on his adopted brother. It's almost as if he had Borderline Personality Disorder. He was obsessed with the promise WWX made and when he returned from the dead, was in the mindset of "if I can't have him, no one can", not in a romantic way, but as he wanted to be the one WWX smiled at and was comfortable around. It became more and more toxic as time went on and Lan Zhan knew this, which was why he protected WWX from JC. JC wanted WWX to be as miserable as he was. However, Wen Ning also came up in WWX's defense and laid a truth bomb of many right to his face as if smacking him down a few pegs to show where his pride (the floating objects around JC in the vision) came crashing down. The old saying is "Pride Goeth before the Fall" and that vision was JC's pride shattering and at that moment, WWX finally decided to leave all the toxicity behind him and go with the light (Lan Zhan) to better himself and let JC wallow in the mess he created.

It's hard to grow up un the shadow of greatness when your mother demands perfection from you. However, lets summarize Jiang Cheng's actions once he became clan leader.
    1. He blamed Wei Wuxian for the attack on Lotus Cove even though it was obvious the Wens were attacking everyone.
    2. He blamed Wei Wuxian for leaving the clan when he made it a choice between leaving and protecting Wen Qing, Wen Ning and the other innocent Wens or joining him in war crimes and genocide. WWX was hardly going to help anyone kill Wen Qing and Wen Ning, who had risked everything to save him and JC.
    3. He blamed Wei Wuxian for the death of Jin Zixuan and Shije even though he was only defending himself.
    4. He led the charge to murder innocent people and spent 16 years hating Wei Wuxian with a passion. You could say it was love/hate, but he tried to hurt or kill him several times.
NOW, he finds out that Jin Guangyao, with the help of Xue Yang and Su She, framed Wei Wuxian in the deaths of Jin Zixuan, Shije and the others that died and tried to kill virtually everyone in the mountain. He finds out that Wei Wuxian HAD to give up the sword because he had given him his golden core.
What's his reaction? Does he swallow his pride and say, "I'm sorry and thank you"? Hell, no. He tells him he hates him even more because he's always been too good and too selfless.
I scratch my head at the fans of this drama who like him and respect him. I can go with "feel sorry for him", but he's lethally toxic. In the end, we hope he comes to grips with his many mistakes and forgives himself, but as far as WWX moving on and leaving him behind, I can't feel too bad about that.

He even let JL believe every single lie about WWX because he was that insecure! JC admitted later that he knew deep down that WWX was innocent but needed someone to be angry at, which makes everything he did even more fucked up- but he’s a “great brother” apparently :/ JC’s not fun to think about vs every other character in the novel

Sometimes, when I rewatch, I skip his scenes just so I won't get pissed off at him. In some of them, the only thing that saved him from being chopped up by Lan Zhan or Wen Ning and fed to Fairy was that they both knew how much Wei Ying loved him.
Insecurity + Pride combined with a sense of entitlement are a devil's brew of character traits. Jiang Cheng has them all in abundance.

@@karisworldgaming4832 Jiang Cheng isn't one of the real villains in this drama. That designation falls on the power-mad Wen Ruohan, his cowardly son, Wen Chao, the psycho-killer Xue Yang, the evil, ambitious puppet master, Meng Yao and his henchman Su She. However, he's closer to being "the world's worst brother" than a victim. Sure, he suffered the loss of his parents, clan and his sister, but which of the main characters didn't suffer? Wei Wuxian lost his adoptive father and clan and the sister he loved more than life itself . He even lost his life for 16 years. Nui Huisang lost his Big Brother, as did Lan Xichen. Song Lan lost the noblest, kindest friend a man could have in Xiao Xingchen. Wen Ning lost his beloved sister Wen Qing and his entire clan, save A'Yuan. Lan Zhan lost his beloved mother, many in his clan and suffered terribly over the loss of his one true love, Wei Ying, for 16 years.
This novel and drama does have a way of making you sympathetic with Jiang Cheng and even, to some extent, villains like Meng Yao and Xue Yang. It's hard to listen to the Xue Yang theme song, where he laments that he just wished to have a second chance to live his life over again for Xiao Xingchen, without shedding a tear for him. It's one of the reasons it's such a great story. The characters aren't just caricatures painted in black and white. They're like imperfect people we know, in some way, so we can identify with them.

Both can sacrifice their life for each other but cannot communicate for 1 sane minute. It was shijie who forced them to talk, but with her gone, everything became mess. Jiang Cheng being emotionally abused constantly by his parents resulted in his arrogant and his acute inability of understanding people's emotions and Wei Wuxian having hero syndrome became Archilles heel. Wei Wuxian being reminded he his nothing but a servant resulted in pent up emotions leading to death of his shijie and her husband.

Wasn't included in this clip but the scene showing Jiang Cheng leading the Wen guards away from Wei Ying was a bit of a let down. Really enjoyed the execution of the donghua throughout the series except this last scene. I remember when I read it, I was bawling but the way they showed it in the donghua didn't carry as much emotion... I would even say that people who didn't read the novel might have trouble interpreting it which is sad since it was a pretty big redeeming factor for Jiang Cheng's character. I honestly love Jiang Cheng's character from the novel but the donghua makes him seem like an angry ball of hate T-T So for anyone wondering, the quote for that scene from the novel goes like this:
"What could he say? That, back then, I wasn't caught by the Wen Sect because I wanted to go back to Lotus Pier to retrieve my my parents' corpses. That, at the town we passed on our way, when you were buying food, a group of Wen Sect cultivators caught up. That, I discovered them early and left where I sat, hiding at the corner of the street and didn't get caught, but they were patrolling the streets and would soon run into you outside. That this was why I ran out and distracted them. But just like how the past Wei WuXian couldn't tell him the truth of giving him his golden core, the current Jiang Cheng wasn't able to say anything either."
Depending on how you decide to interpret it, you could technically say that Jiang Cheng lost his core for Wei Ying, and Wei Ying lost his core for Jiang Cheng. They truly were the best brothers and personally, I don't think Jiang Cheng hates Wei Ying because of the death of his family, but because Wei Ying didn't stay by his side like he promised. Hope this little rant managed to convince some of the Jiang Cheng haters to like him even just a little bit more :)

There's a scene in Ep 12 that shows JC frantically running away from WY who stands in the same spot.
Before reading your comment, my interpretation was "JC cries because he realizes that he himself has been running farther and farther away from WY (symbolically), not the other way around. so instead of blaming WY for not staying by his side, JC, full of regrets, now blames himself for abandoning WY"
Now that you've provided these details, the scene in which JC ran away from the Wen Sect cultivators has a whole different meaning.

JC has problems, sure. But he lost his clan and his family in the midst of unparalleled and devastating turmoil and in a piecemeal fashion (unlike WY who lost his original family in a rather common and ordinary fashion). And then he even lost his brother. Granted, he lost WY himself but I think his flaws are in line with the Nie clan leader who became a fierce resentful corpse, distorted and thus able to be used, ultimately succumbing to and fermenting public opinion. I don’t like him but I can’t say that I would so much better (as him, as his father, or as his mother). I think WY forgives him his flaws because he understands this.

@@pratyushdash7573 I see your point but I'm hating JC from the novel not necessarily the anime or drama. JC didn't become angry because he was compared to WY. He's just like his mother, ill-tempered, JC was trying to distract the wens soldier s from finding WY because WY was out getting help for HIS sister. Unfortunately he lost his core but not for WY, On the other hand WY gave up his core without a second thought because JC is too proud. Do you think JC would have done the same.?
The way he treats WY: even if he felt he couldn't help the Wens, declaring WY an enemy to the entire cultivation world ( not very brotherly,)and leading a siege against him is a bit much Also, when he first appears after WY is resurrected he basically tries to kill him (whipping him with Zidian would have killed him if he had actually been possessing Mo Xuanyu) and proceeds to threaten him with a dog( psychological torture)
JGY said this (if JC had only stuck by WY then, things would not have turned out the way it did).
The untamed-jc not a nice person.
*when WWX comes back the first thing we hear about JC is that he is torturing people who he thinks might be WWX, it immediately sets him up as a villain.
*He was torturing and killing demonic cultivators
*he's literally disgusted by seeing LWJ and WY hugging.
*he puts up deity-binding nets all over the hunting grounds, and the cultivators from smaller sects basically have to give up because they don't dare to offend him
*Even in Lotus Pier when he is the sect leader, people tend to be afraid of him and don't want to go to him for help
*doing nothing to correct Jin Ling's idea of what happened; JL thinks that WY ordered Wen Ning to kill both of his parents, when really Yanli died to protect WY
*saying that Wy had sworn to stay by his side forever as his subordinate, never betraying him(WY never betrayed)
*JC owes WN&WQ a debt because they save his life and help rescue his parents body but he was willing to kill them
*Jiang Cheng mentions the debt that Wei Ying owes the Jiang family because they took him off the streets..wow

PLEASE watch the live action, there is alot more panning to Lan's reaction which is incredible, I dont feel this was as powerful as it was in the live action, sorry but it just was a bit odd the way they did it here. Lans reaction in the live action is amazingly more visual and stronger, its paced out better and not rushed which is what this scene needed. This is literally the scene that is pivitoal to Wei's entire character, it is such proof of his sweet, selflessness and why he turns to Demonic Cultivation and it just felt so rushed here.

yes exactly!!!! this why i love mxtx's novels. she writes such realistic charcters. even the main cracters here, wangxian, she didnt make them straight up act like saints. they all have their faults, they all have regrets. jc is such a well written and complex character that people wont understand him if they just look at him through wangxian's pov, one needs to carefully read the novel in order to understand all the side chracters because all the adaptations kinda quickly rush through scenes of side characters.

JC is a char that make me dislike him, but than pity him a lot too. u can see his weakness, but u can also see his love for his brother. he is a very much misunderstood character. i dont know if its just me, but at the end when WY was lead into a trap where he pulled out his "suibian" sword that exposed him as wei wu xian, u see JC grabbing his fist and getting mad. at this point he already knew he was WWX, i feel like i could just imagine his own dialouge scolding WWX for stupidly getting caught and exposed. when everyone started attacking LZ and WY, he actually let them run past without stopping them.

Both have their charms...the animation was pretty fierce and one allowed more than others. Take them as separately wonderful as I do. It is still a point in a epic story both conveyed well in understanding. One has more license so can't really be apples to apples.

JC was always jealous of WY. He lost his core simply because he was being impulsive and not thinking. WY deserved a better brother. JC was too quick to judge WY when he came back both times (in the battle field with Wen Clan and his resurrection) without asking himself why he (WY) was so different and what changed. Hell when everything hit the fan and all the clans went after WY, JC was there as well. For someone who claimed to love him, he was super quick to turn on him. JC is not a bad character, however he is not someone I would count on for support if things are unclear. Wen Ning was right, some people say they like the live action version, but in my opinion, this was better and it needed to be said. A brutal harsh truth was maybe the only way to really get through to JC. The way I see it is if JC is quick to dish out some hurtful things, then he should be man enough to take it right back 🤷🏾‍♀️

For me JC is really an unlikable character, he never really loved Wei Ying otherwise he would stayed with him till the end. He is selfish, ungrateful and easy to manipulate and his inferiority complex didn't help either. Glad he ended alone, and that he has to live knowing the awful person he is

    • @pratyushdash7573

@@lolakawaiiable well he didn't stay with wei ying because jiang clan was a newly made clan which can't go against all the big clans on its own. just think jiang cheng also sacrificed himself by becoming the bait and getting caught by the wen guards and save wei from getting caught and also that's why his golden core got lost in the first place. just think wei always acts on impulse he tried to be a hero when he knew jiang clan wasn't strong and that's why jiang parents got killed even after that jiang cheng sacrificed himself for wei. and also being a clan leader he has to think about his clan first like everyone will do. and jiang was n't actually against wei he at first was just in the notion of supporting other clans to imprison wens but then when his brother in law died because of wei ying he then got angry on wei.

    • @pratyushdash7573
      @pratyushdash7573 3 года назад +2

i don't know why people even comment if they haven't watched the show properly. jiang cheng got caught because he let himself become the bait to save wei from getting caught. and then jiang cheng made the clan by himself and the newly made jiang clan can't go against all the clans on its own. being the clan leader he has to choose his clan. and jc never hated wei he always supported him even after constantly getting compared to him he didn't turn evil. he was just a good brother who can't express himself and he doesn't have anyone to tell wei how he sacrificed himself for him.

    • @lolakawaiiable
      @lolakawaiiable 3 года назад +6

@@pratyushdash7573 Sounds like excuses to me, nobody said that he had to abandon his clan but he could let WY be, he didn't have to take the side of the enemies of WY but he chose to, so yeah that makes him an awful brother. Also no, JC's parents didn't die because WY tried to be a hero, even JC knows that and mentions it in the novel. That was just an excuse JC told to himself but later on he admits that the Wens were determined to kill his clan in one way or another. The golden core thing well JC did not only save Wei Ying with that, he saved his sister too and himself because without WY and the help of the Wen he would have died and that's another fact. Is totally fine that you like Jc but don't makeup arguments to defend him because the novel is very clear and explains everything. Also you shouldn't assume that other people didn't watch the show properly just because you have a different opinion

I think the last of what WN said to JC about never being able to compare to WWX was very out of character for him. I dont believe that he has in him to say something like that. I was with him up until that moment. This was such an important scene and I think I prefer the way the live action did it. But in most cases I prefer the donghua to the live action, especially the depiction of Yiling laz / WWX.

Well believe it because it happens in the novel too so is canon, Wen Ning is not who he was before now he can speak his mind and he is not afraid anymore. Seems like you forget that he and his sister literally saved JC but what did they get in return?, the answer is nothing so he has all the right to say what he said and he is not lying either, the truth is that JC owes the Wens his own life. You can like JC and be biased and all but trying to blame Wen Ning is out of place. What he did is called character development and btw the drama is the least accurate adaptation of the original story

Wei Ying fulfilled his promise to Jiang Cheng's Mother first the elder. He saved him at ANY COST. The cost was their brothership, clanship & rival freindship. JC was never going to ever be greater than WY he always knew it everyone did...that is part of his anger. The fact he was so good in later years was because the core was Wei's to make him be nearly up to HanGuang-Jun level because WY and LZ were nearly equals. Another tough life pill to swallow for the leader. Wei Ying could not keep his promise to Jiang Cheng because of the promise he kept to his clan leader all those years ago. Quite sad if you really think about the timeline.
