This solo doesn’t get mentioned often in guitar mags but personally I think it’s genuinely one of the most iconic solos of the era. And btw, seeing replicated perfectly like that just farken blows my hair right back. That’s perfect.
You’re right, I don’t think it gets mentioned enough. But what makes it special is it’s a melodic solo: you can actually sing it. David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler had that figured out. This is definitely a great solo and it puts a chill up my back every time I play it loud. As a piece of music and not merely a run of 8 bars for the guitarist to fill it with wankage, it’s top-shelf.
