I know it gets cold in the van but I think you need to stop worrying about the weather sort some proper heating out for the night times and just go with the flow
BKXC is the man! The first video I ever saw of yours inspired me to visit the Pyrenees with BasqueMTB and I’ll be taking my third trip with them this year. Now you’ve inspired me to find new meaning in my riding by documenting my own riding experiences on video and sharing trails with others. Thank you!
Right on Brian! (Sevy here): Rattlesnake Ridge is only 5 miles from my mother in laws so I hit it a few times during Thanksgiving. Short but sweet and some fun little features. It'll be cool once they build across the street at Pinnacle Mtn. too. Cheers!
Great video and nice riding! That one double black rock roll on Rattlesnake Ridge isn't as easy as you made it look. In fact, since you used it as an example, I don't recall anything on Capt. Ahab that was any tougher! That spine at the 12:15 mark...pretty high consequence as well if you botch that. Great recap, and I hope people see that central Arkansas is stepping up their game! In the VERY short order, there will be a revised trail near Pinnacle Mountain just down the road, and I'm betting it's going to be a pretty amazing "sister" to this one!
Arkansas is really on the move building all kinds of trails systems. Everyone is pretty familiar with Northwest Arkansas but there are many other areas in the state starting to take off as well. Arkansas Outside provides a lot of information online for anyone heading there. Loving the videos on your 50 state adventure. You have to be pretty exhausted but you don’t appear that way making each new ride like it was the first. Thanks for sharing!
Nature at its finest. Sometimes on Sunday i go by myself to a Reserve named Carlton and do double track for 30 miles. I call it Bike Yoga. Just nature and you.
They have added a crap ton of new stuff in NW Arkansas since the last time you were there. It will be a challenge not to miss out on some great trails when you come through.
I grew up in Little Rock and frequented the trails around Pinnacle Mountain and the Rattlesnake Ridge area. Glad to see that scene is starting to grow. Camp Robinson in North Little Rock has some really good mountain biking trails as well. Have you done the Womble Brian?
Great video! Awesome to see you in Central Arkansas. The Nature Conservatory is such a great idea. I am about 1.5 hrs north of little Rock (Heber Springs) and there is one lame trail to ride even though it's a very touristy area. We do have an epic trail near Mountain View though. Some have tried to petition the local government to build trails but it gets held up with all the bureaucracy. Mitch, if there is any chance you read this please come build something in Heber. I'm dying for more options.
My hometown. And it is PERFECT terrain for mountain biking, and could have some of the best trails around! It would help solve the issue with the tourism and economy boom in the summer from the lake and rivers, and the doldrums in the winter, when the tourism dies. You could mountain bike year round, and if the trails were good enough, that's exactly what people would do. It's a shame that someone hasn't had the vision to build there. Imagine...if the Corps of Engineers allowed the city to build on the land around the lake?? Talk about incredible terrain! I've been up here in NWA now for 11 years and I've seen things blow up, and the MTB tourism explosion. EVERY trailhead has cars from all over....MN, WS, IL, CO, CA, NY...you name it. It's nuts!
@@willbros1499 , yeah it's such a beautiful area and perfect for Mtb (like much of Arkansas). I'm not sure why the COE wouldn't. There are trails there already but not suitable for mtb. Really nice disc golf course though. I'm trying to get connected to the local scene since I'm new. I'm hopeful to see the sport grow here.
Rattlesnake Ridge has had a lot of work to it recently by the local advocacy groups. They’ve done a lot of good down there in Central AR. You need to hit the new Buffalo stuff in NwA, when you get the chance. It has all the technical stuff you enjoy. Some of the longest downhill runs in the state too.
Yes, you do!!! I live just outside of Little Rock in Conway. Call up the local bike shop called The Ride in Conway. Eric can fill you in on all the trails. Plus, We have rides about twice a month. Of course, right now with COVID, we are not group riding.
You made it to Arkansas. I have rode bmx for years, but mountain bikes only about 5-6 months. The scene is Arkansas rivals almost all other states, we just don't have the elevation differences that the big mountain ranges have. Rattle Snake ridge is good, but there are a lot more legit trails, very close to central Arkansas.Glad you had a good time in the NATURAL STATE.
Here goes the another episode of 50 State BKXC ride! My work mate is from that place and told me that there are a lot of good trails there! Ride safe Brian. More power to you! GO HIT THOSE 50 State!!!
Never been there but will have to check it out. Your videos are great. Keep up the good work. I’m going to be in Bentonville on Saturday hope the trails look as good as where you are at.
Oh...they will. They will. :-) Looks like you may only be here for a day, but PLEASE keep in mind that some of the best trails in the area are about an hour east in Eureka Springs, so don't forget about Lake Leatherwood (shuttles), and Great Passion Play. If you're only here for a day, then hit Coler Preserve, and Slaughter Pen in Bentonville proper. The most variety, and the coolest stuff is contained on those two systems.
I wish I had known you were around this area. At Iron Mountain the best trails are on the same side of the road you parked on, some more techy rock and the trails they use for the Enduro race
Loving the 50 state ride, thanks for showing off the USA from behind the bars! Riding + local knowledge is fan-freaking-tastic. Any live streams planned?
Rattlesnake Ridge looks awesome. I haven’t ridden there yet but it’s on my list. Still, I’m surprised you chose that little spot among all the gold in AR.
I think when you ride it...you might think it is gold. I had a blast there over the Holidays. Those wood to rock features are wicked fun, and they have some rowdy descents mixed in that short distance as well. I was actually VERY surprised comng from NWA, and I think it held up really well. I made two laps, and that was a pretty good workout! Brian made that one little double black rock line look pretty easy, but it was the one thing I wouldn't ride the day I was there by myself. It's as tricky as any rock garden spots we have here in NWA (excluding BOC, because I haven't ridden it yet).
Part of the idea behind this trip was that he wanted to ride trails that aren't already super well-known trails that people expect him to go to. Not saying that there aren't better trails that fulfill that goal, but nonetheless...
Agreed...rode them in December, and while Northwest Arkansas gets a lot of the publicity, and rightfully so, that 6 miles would hold up to any XC stuff we have up here...no question. Great use of the terrain, and those "wood to rock" features are legit.
Good stuff, can't wait to see where you ride in Michigan. My recommendation would be DTE foundation trail in Chelsea, Mi. Southeast Mi, about 10 min from I 94 which you can jump back on and head to Indiana or to Chicago. People come from all over to ride this trail. 18 mi of speed, big berms, jumps etc.. You wouldn't think you were in MI. Ride fast, be safe.
I would love to hear an in-depth view from you about the Whoop vs Garmin. Garmin is now tracking "body battery" which appears to offer a very similar tracking system. Between that and Strava effort measurement it seems that all of Whoop is covered. Just curious to hear if you find it to be more accurate or what is the big selling point if you are already on a Garmin wearable.
When you come to Massachusetts, you should ride at Thunder mountain. It has so many amazing trails. If you want someone to show you around, I know the place very well.
My KS dropper gets slow every winter. I just add extra pressure and then when it gets warmer and I notice it's shooting up too fast I drop pressure back down.
Now that snowmobile season is almost over I can't figure out what I want for the summer. I'm debating on buying a used dirt bike for trail use or a mountain bike. Watching your videos really makes me want to get into mtb though.
Whenever you make it to NW Arkansas, try to get over to Cathy's Corner Restaurant in Siloam Springs on Hwy 412. Awesome breakfast; huge pancakes, omelets, and biscuits. (They're only open til 2 p.m.)
Hey....I didn't know about that. Always looking for a good breakfast, and I need to get over there to ride the trails in Siloam too. Sounds like a good day trip to me! Come for the BK/XC, leave with a great breakfast recommendation. Who knew??? Thanks John!
@@willbros1499 You're welcome......If you're ever near Oklahoma City, try Honey Bunny Biscuit Company....It's a farm to table restaurant with great breakfast also. I always try to find good breakfast locations to start off rides in different areas.
I don't know if I look more like a kook than knee pads over pants, but I think I've found the sweet spot for cold weather riding... I like the long john with shorts, and the knee pads go over the long johns. Does it look kooky? Probably, but it's just about right for riding around the freezing mark.
Good. vIdeo Brian I really enjoyed it. So are meeting up with Alex any time soon or have you talk to him at all. I am a little concerned he hasn’t put out a video in so long and I am wondering if he is OK. Thanks again for another good video.
Love your videos. Just a small question. On almost all your videos while you are riding i can hear a background noise. Its not bike related or track/path related. Seems like interference noise. Not sure anyone noticed before. I use Sennheiser headphones wich are not very powerfull but the sound is very clear. And only on your videos, while you are riding on easier, less stressfull tracks i can hear than noise. Let me know. Cheers from Portugal
I gotta say Brian, this is a great series with all 50 states. The local history lessons are awesone
Dope how that dude brought his kid and his pup out hiking while you guys were riding even though he couldn’t ride.
I know it gets cold in the van but I think you need to stop worrying about the weather sort some proper heating out for the night times and just go with the flow
Totally agree. It's not much of a van life at the moment.
BKXC is the man! The first video I ever saw of yours inspired me to visit the Pyrenees with BasqueMTB and I’ll be taking my third trip with them this year. Outerbike 20 more miles coming this year at Pinnacle and hoping to connect it all up! Gonna be such a sweet area for MTB!

That new trail was sweet. What a dream job, creating trails. Great video.
Yes it is !
Right? Sign me up!
Thanks for featuring some of the lesser known trails in Arkansas. Come back and ride the rest soon!

Thanks for what you are doing for our community and the history lessons are awesome also...
That first obstacle you hit. I was standing on top of the big boulder, lost my footing and fell of to the right. It hurt!!
The rides are awsome as usual. And that litle segment at the end, just showing the open road with that music in the background, just stunning. 👌
I’m in Dallas... I need to take a weekend trip up to Arkansas!
will cruz NWA is the bees need! Much more around.
You need to hit up Northwoods in Hot Springs

Reminded me a lot of the Bragg Creek area west of Calgary, Canada. BTW - those pancakes looked amazing!

Thanks for another great video Brian. Well done for highlighting the skills of the trail builders awesome work
Another good one Brian, safe travels thru the Gator state and points north!
late to the party but so glad you rode something other than Bentonville!
Walmart is also spending money in Hot Spring on the Northwoods trails! Pretty great stuff.
you are a good bugger, love the new track, happy biking take care.
Great videos and it must be a great lifestyle just to see everywhere and meet everyone!

That was built really well, considering the rocky terrain. Awesome job.
I love the history tidbits and local suggestions on where to eat.

Super Cool! 😁 Wich, we had such private initiatives at all over here...

Awesome
Once you hit Maryland I know some incredible trail systems! I love this series!
Hey! I ran into Hayden last fall when a buddy and I rode the Arkansas High Country Route!
Sweet trails!!!!!!! AWESOME video Brian!!!
Great terrain, GO BKXC, GO ARK
I love riding in Arkansas, especially the Ozarks.
Where did you get those 50 state magnets you add on every video??
Rattlesnake Ridge looks awesome. I haven’t ridden there yet but it’s on my list. Still, I’m surprised you chose that little spot among all the gold in AR.
It’s a short but technical trail and after having to bail several times, it convinced me to put flat pedals back on my bike.
I think when you ride it...you might think it is gold. I had a blast there over the Holidays. Those wood to rock features are wicked fun, and they have some rowdy descents mixed in that short distance as well. I was actually VERY surprised comng from NWA, and I think it held up really well. 🤯What a small world, I used to go to church with Bill back in the day when I went to undergrad in Conway...a long time ago...😅
Those trails look really nice!
Sweet, Man You're Rockin !
Northwoods in Hot Springs is awesome!
Yes, it is. Of course I'm a little partial. I'm a local. Lol
Sooo many places to ride in Arkansas!
Great video! and check out the Rainier dropper from PNW Components, they work in any weather all year round, best I have used so far.
I just recently replaced my Ks Lev, Fox Transfer it’s like a new bike. On my hardtail I’ve got the SDG Tellis it’s been great also.
straight 60's for the high temps in NW Arkansas. When you coming up here? Lots of trials to discover.

very technical you are now bro!!!
5:04 thats what she said...and...5:06 ...you are welcome :D good video Brian! thanks
Nice, that part of the country have really nice forests.
DIRTWIRE rides some ROCKY places in MA, look impossible but they usually conquer them
The new section looks good.
You are spot on moutain biking has everything. Really nice trail . Have you looked up Rhode island yet
Love the tour.awesome seeing trails all about!

When you come to Massachusetts, you should ride at Thunder mountain. It has so many amazing trails. If you want someone to show you around, I know the place very well.
The tick state. I spent a couple of weeks in Arkansas last year (Bentonville and Little Rock) and both my dogs and I got multiple ticks.
You should have stopped and made a trip to Bentonville heard it's pretty cool there
Kool video and trails!!!!
My KS dropper gets slow every winter. I just add extra pressure and then when it gets warmer and I notice it's shooting up too fast I drop pressure back down.
Great video man!
Can't thank you enough for converting °F to °C lol
Hey Brian.
Awesome video again. The jacket you have on, is that part of your merch line?
YOURE TEACHING ME MORE ABOUT THE LOUISIANA PURCHASE THAN MY DARN HISTORY TEACHER!!
Hey brian noticed the second bike in your van. Tell us what are you hiding there? I love the grips, are they ESI grip? If so are you loving them?
🚴👌 great trails buddy 😜🤘
I COULDN'T WAIT😂
Welcome to my state!
Nice techy stuff there

So cool man
lovely content

I'd recommend a PNW Bachelor dropper for the new build Brian 😎
Yea I saw 1 rattlesnake last year when I was riding but it was minding its own business, and it seemed like he was staring into the sun.
When are you coming to Vermont? Love this series

You missed good weather by about a week. It is in the 70s and sunny now.
When are you coming to Wyoming and where are you going.
Cool 🤘👍
Next week on 50 STATE SHRED: Kansas, "Yeah I found 2 trails in the state and both have all of 5 feet of descending."
