This isn't copy related, but I can say that honing into a niche really is the way to do it. I do freelance digital illustration and specialize in portraiture; rather than saying, "hey, I can draw you whatever you want," my focus is providing my clients with character art for their social media platforms, and it's netted me enough money in commissions to pay off the very hardware that I use to provide artwork for my clients.

@@AlexCattonialso thanks for recommending Dan Kennedy books! I had learned from Scott Martin how to gather a database for starter contact lists before folks signed up for contact, and had already begun strategizing a multichannel marketing path, but Kennedy’s book Marketing Made Simple helped fill in a few blanks for me, and now I apply that to 4 or 5 niche audiences. It’s fun to take tips from a few marketers producing specific content or products, and put their advice together for a full marketing plan like moving pieces. Plus, more clients. Yay! Feeling extra grateful for your work today.

@@Fatima-nj5cw I think it really depends on what your interests are. Think about the topics you're most interested in writing about and go from there. If you're interested in writing about a certain topic, you'll naturally have an easier time researching it and writing about it. Clients will like your work and will be willing to pay you. But I do think it's good for beginners to experiment with a few different niches to see what they like.

Ah! I used to niche down to writing welcome email sequences for coaches and was getting on a roll with quite a few clients (although the money wasnt great). Great video, very informative. Could you please do a video on how a copywriter should write their profile on LinkedIn to attract the right clients? For instance, if i wish to specialize in writing copy for beauty, fitness, health and creative industries, what would be the best way to do it?

Heyy Alex great video right now I’m in a crossroads whether to start a copywriting Agency or get into Affiliate Marketing. Would be great to get your advice and input👍
I guess it depends on what you're most drawn to. Writing affiliate offers qualifies as copywriting though... so you could kill two birds with one stone honestly.

great video, and very informative! I have a few questions on the subject. I'm really interested in this career, as it seems very fun and naturally fits with my own skills and talents. that said, I would love to pursue some sort of schooling that may help in this area, (either in skill development, or in making myself more appealing to clients/employers.) what are some recommended fields of study, and do you recommend Freelance over working for an agency? I'd love to know your thoughts on this.
I personally would recommend Freelancing over working in agency - that's because I value freedom and wouldn't want to be tied down to one company as an employee. But everyone is different! Find which one you love most. And to answer your other question... you can find TONS of online courses that teach copywriting. I have some courses that I offer as well :) you can check them out here: www.copyposse.com/programs
