Here in Slovakia, there was a belief that Cuckoos singing can predict how much time does a girl have till she gets married. Apparently, this tradition is in Russia as well, just with death instead of marriage

Oh so its more of a cultural thing. i initially thought that it was a morbid reference to the mujahideen/chechens using cuckoos to signal an ambush.

In some parts of Russia it is believed that the cuckoo is the soul of a dead person. There are many superstitions with this bird in Russian culture, and all of them are related to death in one way or another.

In Finland its based on what direction the Cuckoo is singing. North = bad year South = lively year East = happy year West = lovely year. And how many times cuckoo sings from that direction, that many type of years you are going to have. Other such "death birds" is that when capercaillie comes to your yard or when black grouse lands on your roof it means that someone is going to die soon.

There’s something I love about Kaskad, I don’t know if it’s the low quality sound, the tuning of the bass or the synthetic instruments, but since i first heard Опять тревога, Мы выходим на рассвете and Зорька I fell in love with the sound of the group, the voice, the quality, the sound. Everything is perfect and treasured in my memories.

My father was a BT-7 Loader back in Afghan Soviet war. he was on the side of the Republic of Afghanistan. So, his ally was CCCP and his Enemies were Muhajideens. He told me a lot of his memories but one of it always stuck with me. During war, Their tank gets hit by an RPG or Rocket of some sort. And the tank becomes unoperable, the Muhajideens just start surrounding the tank to kill my dad and his crewmates. When the Rocket hits, bunch of Sharapnels just fly everywhere inside the tank, he gets hit in his forehead (He still carries that scar with him.) He describes that his ears couldnt hear, his mind was fuzzy and was struggling to see anything. Him and his crew just climbs out of the Tank, with their Kalashnikovs. And they just start blindly shooting, somehow they make it alive. And according to what he says, they stay stranded there for a while and defend the tank while the rest of the army can come and retrieve them. They get awarded with a medal i unfortunately forgot the name of. All he says about the war is "I killed my own people, for what? For no reason at all. it was either them or me. I couldnt question orders, just followed them."

@@izefkein5115a lot of that old stuff did end up in places like afghanistan. i am not sure whether something like a bt-7 would, the possibility of confusion with a bmp is there, but it’s not impossible.

Damn i really warmed up to this one quick, on first listen I thought it a was a bit dull but now its stuck in my head. Its hard to beat that eary feel that the live recordings of Kasad songs convey.
This is one the most depressing songs that i have ever heard.

This song is so beautiful, even though I dont understand Russian. It has such deep meaning and significance, in its description of the Russian- Afghan war.

I thinck not. In western europe, people would rather look at the clouds, looking for God, to find hope, think about their future etc.
Although I am not too sure about this one, I have heard that in the Southern parts of the United States there is a belief in a local bird called a Whip-poor-will in the Nightjar family of birds that sounds off in the night. Local Legends say they predict the impending deaths of family members and people depending on how loud they get,and if they get loud only to cut off some time during the process of whomever you know is taking their last breath,then it's supposed to mean that they took their soul. But I think that was Incorporated in the H.P. Lovecraft universe Mythos. Most see them as an omen of death near the dying or omen of bad luck, apparently. I'd have to sort out what's actual beliefs and what's made up for the sake of story writers

К слову сказать слышал версию что эта песня была написана еще во время Великой Отечественной войне, и слова были про германскую землю. Моя любимая песня!

funfact: On April 6, 1992, the Serbs began the Siege of Sarajevo, which lasted until Feb. 29, 1996. The Serbian paramilitary forces began the siege by holding positions inside the city and in the hills surrounding Sarajevo. By the first week of May, the Serbs had surrounded the whole city. This cut Sarajevo off from food, medicine, water, electricity, fuel and other supplies. The Serbs began firing on Sarajevo with advanced artillery but faced heavy defense from those mobilized with weapons within the city. Because the Serbs were facing opposition, they began to terrorize the city with intense gunfire and snipers. The Siege of Sarajevo lasted for 47 months and remains the longest siege in modern history.

@@stallist9365 Kaskad is on spotify, you just have to look for their name under the title, and as far as I can tell this version and the version on spotify are identical besides the one on spotify being studio quality, its in the same album as the studio version of "Zorka" or "Rising Dawn"

It’s not the same version though. The instrumentation, tempo and even the singers are different. As far as I know, this particular performance (late 1983 or early 1984) was captured only once, and all the different sources for it have pretty significant (as of now irreparable) quality issues. Performances of varying similarity to this one have been recorded from mid 1983 to late 1986, but none of them are the same - the instrumentation is different, the singing notes are too in some places, the back vocals are sung by a different person, or there’s variation in the echo and reverb - this all creates a different atmosphere. In 1987, the style was changed drastically and although it changed many times after that, it never came back to anything resembling this.
If you’re not as picky though, I guess this info is irrelevant to you.
