It’s not even the hairstyle it’s his face. It looks cosmetically different. Tekken 3 he looks like a completely different person. Obviously it’s an older game but they changed his facial features for the worse.
To be fair, maybe they decided to give Eddy that cut because we now have Leroy Smith and they thought “now we have Leroy, let’s use this chance to give Eddy a a redesign”. Two black characters in the game don’t have that hairstyle, we can allow one person to have it lol.

What If Reina is secretly a self taught hair stylist and she abducts characters like Paul and Eddy and does THIS to them. The true evil incarnate. That's her or Brian.
She needs her return but I really feel like they’ve dropped Christie off for Eddy. And they aren’t doing mirror characters anymore I guess so let’s hope something happens somehow.
@@shadowflare0269why they even thought that new hairstyle look good for Paul is beyond me. It has to be a joke. Has to be. Probably trying to take that 'its ma'am sir!" Trans guy rant meme to game form or something. As for Eddy; yeah they gave him the Killmonger, which no self respecting black guy irl wears 😂
The clothes are wack and his hair is a bad decision. Just like you said nobody with dreads even really wears their hair like that. For years every game has dropped the ball with dread hairstyles in games and it’s crazy with all of the different cool styles of dreads. Idk I think what Katt Williams said about the agenda on black people in Hollywood has seeped into video games🤣 but they definitely don’t have any black people in that studio. This was gonna be the 1st Tekken I wanted to learn combos with and I was thinking if Eddie was in, I’d try to make him my main. Now I most likely won’t play him😅
I think when it comes to art, it’s doesn’t always have to be innovation. If a specific style looks good and people like it. Others will follow,, that’s why we have trend. Of course personal taste is a important factor and perhaps people are just digging the OG style over the trending style
On the topic of hair specifically (a lot of other points you made on the design itself I fully agree) I don't mind it, Tekken isn't a great example because we have Leroy and Raven both rocking different styles, so I can give it a pass on one of them in concept (still not a huge fan of the design). I much prefer this to giving everyone black character an afro, which was kinda like the previous version of the kill monger trend. If anything I think there needs to be more black characters with short hair lined up and a fade imo, but I don't think it's the worst thing ever. It's a shame that Tekken is being put up as the latest example of it when the other black characters have unique hairstyles and I feel like it doesn't represent the franchise at all
Definitely not the worst thing ever. I just think it's getting really repetitive and didn't care much for the design overall. I thought it would make for good conversation and just felt like giving my opinion, but I didn't expect such a.. visceral reaction from so many people to say the least. Tekken normally does a fantastic job of creating unique characters that represent different cultures well. I'm not even saying this new design doesn't do that necessarily.. just weird to constantly see this one hairstyle be the new catch-all for black people.
@LotusAsakura I feel you man, I don't really disagree with anything you said, they really could've just left his hair the same and it would've been way better. It's a good and interesting topic of conversation, I think Tekken fans rn feel like this topic is being directed solely at Tekken when really its a wider issue.
Tekken 7 had dlc characters that were ogs before too. Anna,Lei,armor king are all og characters yet they werent in base game of tekken 7 but dlc characters. And the answer to why is money I guess. I actually dont even blame them considering tekken tag 2 had every character from the series without dlc yet the game floped and was the worst selling tekken in the series.
I'm meh because of the hairstyle, more so his outfit. The only plus is that it is different for him. I'm glad he's in it none the less. Maybe it will grow on me
Hairstyle is fine and all but it is annoying that it is now being overused. What’s disappointing about this situation is a million corporation like Bandai Namo can’t pay a black hairstylist or barber to help them create designs or even just look up stuff on Google or Instagram for different black hairstyles. How can they be this lazy. Especially seeing how well Capcom did with Kimberly.
Seriously looks like he could be eddie kid maybe they tryin to make the characters look younger for some reason but being from the west indies and all the controversy/drama going on about dreads over there im kinda sad they got rid of eddies

@@LotusAsakura so basically a rash "comeback" because nothing you said answered my question correctly. Tell me you see the irony of your reply? I'm with you, that redesign looks pretty ass. They made him discount Kilmonger. How many black characters must they give this hairstyle too lmaoooo come on
I’m not the biggest fan of the hairstyle. The big thing that sets this apart from hairstyles we saw in the past is, at least with the generic Afro or the low fade, it was a common hairstyle. I know plenty of people with a simple fro or low fade. This hairstyle feels like it came out of nowhere. Even after Black Panther, it wasn’t a super common hairstyle, assuming Killmonger is the person who popularized it. It feels like, at first, it was a cool artistic change for diverse hairstyles, and then the gaming industry started copying each other's homework until we got to the point we’re at now. More power to anybody that likes it. For me, it just feels like a bad meme at this point
My cousin had this haircut(not blood related), but he just didn't have it to the side. Basically, it was too short to comb it over, and then he died it yellow. I straight up told him he looked like a wannabe pikachu. He got rid of it very soon and then started doing drugs and moved out of my aunties house, so it seems like that hairstyle was the start of his downward spiral
My brother is the Eddie player and he loved the design. I love Lee Lochan and I don't like his default Tech-suit, while others love it and thought it looked amazing. You also mentioned Paul...that's all that needs to be said. I still see your point on the many black characters with the same hairstyle and that they should be more "diverse." Still...bit of an over-reaction over something that is not that big of a deal.
Ekko's redesign always killed me that he was already unique with the white mohawk but still changed him, then they rolled out K'Sante with the same god damn hair-style.
He doesn't look like eddy. He doesn't even sound like eddy. I'm tired of seeing characters with this hair. He has had his dreads since Tekken 3, can't just cut it off like it's nothing. The whole thing with T7 was that he didn't want to be a "hip" dance fighting guy, he took a more serious route. To avenge his father and master etc. He looks like a clown with his design now. What's the point of going to this classic look? Defeats the purpose of his development.
I think he looks great. He looks clean as hell. He looks fresh, or modern. Plus I know we'll have serious customization, so I wouldn't stress on hating hairstyles and so on. Look at Raven. Plus, look at Paul's default hair. It's whatever to me. lol
Im digging the new eddy look and outfit im feeling the whole look my man looks 1000% serious now amd he is my main since 93 (yes im old) and i do play eddy
I actually like his hairtyle with his new outfit and quite frankly I'm kinda getting tired and sick with everyone(including you) complaining about certain characters change. First it was Paul and now it's Eddy, sure you can change it but really would that even matter, that's just your nolstagia talking and you basically don't like change. Hell Eddy coulda just have the fresh prince cut or just be bald head and all ya still will be upset about it. And look I get it, the whole Kilmonger hairstyle was a fit back in 2018 and other form of media was wearing at that time and was getting old but you know what was also old, EVERYTHING ELSE. dreadlocks, afros, flat tops and anime hair that the likes of what Kazuya has. I get that you don't like it and that's fine but don't s*** on the developers for they themselves work to make the characters different overall and for the most part I really like what they did.
Also what an ignorant comment. You're just angry because we disagree. I've said MULTIPLE times including in this video that I think Tekken 8 is the BEST that most of these characters have ever looked. So what nostalgia? I don't like change? You're just talking to talk lol.
@@LotusAsakura I mean no disrespect but it's just that I get a bit annoyed from hearing this coming either Twitter,Reddit or other that goes on about a character design that not many people like is all.
Kilmonger made this look iconic! Then foreign game developers/animators were inspired. In terms of clothing I think 70% of the default outfits are booty.
Didn't realise that styles been that overused. Fortunately for Eddy, he rocks it wayyy better than Deejay. May not be his best look, but no where near as bad as Paul's karen hair
As a stand alone character design it's good, but it really just doesn't look like him, which isn't great, but it'll probably hurt their marketing more than anything else
I disagree. I love the redesign. And i don't mind the hairstyle. It's obvious that artists like that particular hairstyle, so its getting used a lot. But i don't particularly care about other characters in games i dont play who may happen to have the same hairstyle as this. And lastly, hairstyle trends are nothing new, like the afro and hightop-fade...those were used far more than this.

literally every modern black man in gaming has had that cut its actually an epidemic and no black person actually likes it that much to want to see it in every single game
Honestly, while this critique makes sense when talking about western art, game, and movie makers - I don't think it applies so easily to Japanese developers. They simply don't have our cultural context or experience. Not enough to know that the popular new black haircut flying around in western circles is actually NOT something they want to incorporate into their own product. Honestly they probably thought, "oh that looks cool, and they seem to like it; our fans should like it too". Maybe they thought Paul missed his teenage emo phase. Who knows.
This hairstyle will be out in two years. And we will still see eddy for another 8 years woth these hair. 😂 Anyway i still hope eddy mains are happy with the reveal.. his animations look sick amd he has an interaction with my 2. main Nina 😍
Personally, I like Eddy's new look, and I've always liked the comb-over dreads hairstyle. I always think it makes characters look edgy and cool. Overall, it's just a different look from the usual ponytail, which is honestly kinda plain. Also, it kinda fits with other characters like Paul, Hwoarang, and Nina, who all have different hairstyles. But here's hoping they have hairstyle customization or classic costumes. I'm hoping Nina has a long hair opinion myself. *Fingers Crossed*
I love how they fixed his facial design. Aside from his DLC Screen Render, his in-game model looks identical to how we're used to seeing him in most titles (T3/T4/T5/Tag2). Tekken 7 was off.
Bruh, Eddy is older too so he is going to look a little different! To me he looks a little older. It’s a Tekken game and they all dress like that. They all have armor gear for the battle in the story. He is not going to go to war wearing freaking club drip. This dude is trippin! 🤦🏽♂️

Well, I live in San Bernardino and the only Black people I see with this haircut are on TV or in video games
It’s not the standard I don’t know any black person that wears that hairstyle that’s the problem, lol don’t speak for black people. Not only that it’s just overused…
@@cidfacetious3722It does make sense the Japanese would be quick to latch onto a media trend of black people that they don't normally interact with on a daily basis in Japan.
Although they do have Michael Murray on the team but he's white...
I mean who walks around wearing leopard print clothes that isn't a female over 60 yrs old or a pimp from the 70"s? 😂
I do agree that Eddy's hair is a bit off but he's not the only one. Look at Paul. Those two need a makeover. Two minor bleamishes on what is otherwise looking to be the best installment since Tekken 5. I'm calling it now. This intro is fire. The song is catchy and is stuck in my head at the moment. We're almost there. ❤
Paul is tragic
Everyone talking about Paul and Eddy while for me they ruined Nina the most. She looked better in every single previous tekken while now she looks like Karen.
@@Marko-ij4vy You know I kinda felt the same way at first but the Opening movie is starting to make me change my mind a bit. She looks incredible there. That badass no no-nonsense strut with the whole Jack army behind her. I was really feeling it.
@@Marko-ij4vy Best Nina was Tekken 3 Nina.
But at least Nina still looks female
Meanwhile Paul is trying to look female with that Karen haircut 😭 😂
@@budgiecat9039 I agree about tekken 3 Nina. Also tekken tag 1 nina basically looked same as in tekken 3 but with better graphics. But in all others she still looked better than in tekken 8.
They MUST'VE added his tied-dreads in the customisation menu
Watch when Jax comes back to the main roster in Kombat Pack 2 or something and he ends up having comb over dreads 🤣
LOL I'll laugh my ass off
It’s not even the hairstyle it’s his face. It looks cosmetically different. Tekken 3 he looks like a completely different person. Obviously it’s an older game but they changed his facial features for the worse.
It’s one of the things I fear every time series get new entries.
A really bad or unrecognizable redesign
Eddy looks fire with that hairstyle
*Ekko and Phoenix rocked it best tho*
To be fair, maybe they decided to give Eddy that cut because we now have Leroy Smith and they thought “now we have Leroy, let’s use this chance to give Eddy a a redesign”. Two black characters in the game don’t have that hairstyle, we can allow one person to have it lol.
I’d rather have the old character retain their hairstyle and redesign the newer character.
One is a breakdancer and one is martial artist. I’m pretty sure people can differentiate these characters by looking at their fighting styles
its not even the same dread style, Leroy's is a tieback, and eddy's was a free flow. the side fade dreads are just kinda...trash imo.
Maybe it was easier to animated.
agreed a lot of us aren't actually seen wearing that style of locs lol idk man at least they gave him a more precise before so but i hope this hairstyle trend video game trends stops lol
I approve his hairstyle. Im tired of Japan making every black person with long dreads, yellow braids, and a black panthefs afro.
I want to see shadow-fade haircuts, short 90s s-curls, waves and etc.
Eddy with waves woulda been sick tho
@@Tralawifyna
Random but I also hate when they give black female characters white hair
What If Reina is secretly a self taught hair stylist and she abducts characters like Paul and Eddy and does THIS to them.

Christie Monteiro should’ve been the DLC character she’s the granddaughter of the legendary master of the fighting style
She needs her return but I really feel like they’ve dropped Christie off for Eddy. And they aren’t doing mirror characters anymore I guess so let’s hope something happens somehow.
imagine if we gave every single Asian character a sedge hat as part of their default costume.
I love Eddy's new look. Although I guess you can change the character back to it's default costume from previous game.
Let’s hope the hairstyle is different too.
Probably gonna be the same as paul, you can change to its old hair
Now I most likely won’t play him😅
Trust me, Lotus, NO ONE here in Brazil uses that hairdo.
We black bruh locs can be put in so many styles…it’s way better than the barbershop wall picture haircuts I’ve seen on Brazilians 😂
Neymar isnt from Brasil? 😂😂😂😂😂
@@famaplay Ok, ONE brazilian.
IM GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE. Thats not my Eddy bruh. Harada please!
The combover dreadlock is the black Karen style of hair lmao
Watching Lotus be pissed live was sum cuz we all was in chat roasting this fucking Killmonger ass haircut
Customization exists so we're fine lol
I like Eddy’s 7 design overall a lot more.
I thought Eddie looked pretty cool but I'm not black and don't play enough games to know this style has become such a go to.
I agree that the hairstyle is overused, but my main problem is why is Eddy DLC when he was just in Tekken 7, he's a OG character, Why!?
Tekken 7 had dlc characters that were ogs before too. Anna,Lei,armor king are all og characters yet they werent in base game of tekken 7 but dlc characters. And the answer to why is money I guess. I actually dont even blame them considering tekken tag 2 had every character from the series without dlc yet the game floped and was the worst selling tekken in the series.
My theory is that they needed more time to balance him lol. Doubt it though definitely the money.
Fun fact: Tekken 8 will have customization.
Fun fact: You didn't watch the video lol
@@LotusAsakura how does my comment equate to "I didn't watch the video" or was that just a rash "comeback" made out of emotion? No comment?
Because I mentioned customization multiple times in the video and you commented it as if I was ignorant to the idea or had a meltdown over the design like it ruined his character. Excellent attempt at trying to read me, though. A failed one, but good effort. Here's a gold star.
@@LotusAsakura so basically a rash "comeback" because nothing you said answered my question correctly. Tell me you see the irony of your reply? It relies on assuming that I said that only said that because I didn't think you talked about it in the video. Which is wrong, I knew exactly what you said. My comment was stating the obvious. Like saying "they have male characters". It's mere sarcasm, to exaggerate the point to anyone who's crying about it, that it's not that big of a deal.
Honestly just give him his old hair style and the design is great.
Hopefully the story on Eddy won't be as bad as it was for Ken in SF6 (i personally hated his backstory i dont care) but i truly wonder what happened to Eddy cause i honestly xant remember he just disappeared
I'm with you, that redesign looks pretty ass. They made him discount Kilmonger. How many black characters must they give this hairstyle too lmaoooo come on
I assumed that it was Eddy’s kid at first. 😂
I thought that for a second too.
I think Eddie looks dope with his new look. Plus we will still probably be able to customize his hair style.
Killmonger hair is op, 10/10 new design
man that new haircut sucks for eddy!! he looks way better with the longer hairstyles
My brother is the Eddie player and he loved the design. I love Lee Lochan and I don't like his default Tech-suit, while others love it and thought it looked amazing. You also mentioned Paul...that's all that needs to be said. I still see your point on the many black characters with the same hairstyle and that they should be more "diverse."
Still...bit of an over-reaction over something that is not that big of a deal.
I think you think it's a bigger deal than I do. All I did was share my opinion on the design haha. I don't like it, but if you do then power to you.
Didn't they give Miles this shit too?
As a stand alone character design it's good, but it really just doesn't look like him, which isn't great, but it'll probably hurt their marketing more than anything else
I disagree. I love the redesign. And i don't mind the hairstyle. It's obvious that artists like that particular hairstyle, so its getting used a lot. But i don't particularly care about other characters in games i dont play who may happen to have the same hairstyle as this. And lastly, hairstyle trends are nothing new, like the afro and hightop-fade...those were used far more than this.
To each their own. I'm not a fan of the design, but if Brazilian people or just anyone in general is rocking with it then Kudos to them. Just gave my own opinion is all.
@@LotusAsakura It reminds me of when you're drawing a character and you can't quite get the eye right so you give them hair over the one I so you don't have to draw it type of energy...

This feels like the whole Hwoarang eyepatch situation only problem is they probably gonna make this change a permanent one like he cut his dreads shit takes long to grow back
Good thing they will have alternative hairstyles! Very happy he will be in game!!
I mean while I see the points of everyone on Eddy, my takeaway weirdly is that if this is all the game has as flaws (besides some small nitpicks I'm sure) it's 100% the fighting game to look forward to and it will be a treat.
They gonna give him his classic look everyone in roster had their old outfits

literally every modern black man in gaming has had that cut its actually an epidemic and no black person actually likes it that much to want to see it in every single game
The cut is horrible I’m definitely closing app everytime I see a eddy with that hairstyle🤣
Anyway i still hope eddy mains are happy with the reveal.. his animations look sick amd he has an interaction with my 2.
Comb-over dreads is the opposite of edgy and cool lmao. It’s the most safe haircut to give black characters in media nowadays.
