- With The Mandalorian's third season just on the horizon, it's the prefect time to pay tribute to the show and get back in a Mando frame of mind. Using the new Hot Toys Mandorian and Grogu sixth-scale figures, Norm designs and builds a laser-cut diorama display inspired by the Imperial Light Cruiser as seen in the season two finale!

got to love nerds with all their love and dedication
Mando is the perfect blend of Samurai and Cowboy. That Darksaber Katana looks amazing
Norm this diorama build was sick! Well done! Those lights at the end brought the entire thing to life 🔥
The things you can do with a laser cutter 🔥🔥
Try to let us have a little longer to see the final product *without* the end cards superimposed all over the image!
Problem of many RUclipsrs these days
Hey I think they changed it, seems like there's much less overlap now than the first time I watched it - what do you think?
RUclips now has a play button at the bottom that will also pause the video. Brand new feature. You can look at something almost forever
@aarswft You're being sarcastic, right?
Norm is so talented! Looks great.
It's gorgeous! I had to come back today and watch the end a second time.
Always look forward to watching ODB with Norm. There always enjoyable to watch. 👍
Norm love your stuff. Only thing is this video ends too soon because you put up your 'finale' footage for this build and there are like 3 enormous links blocking the footage. We just need a few more seconds of footage before those giant links cover everything.
Well done Norm.
Hey there Mr. Savage! Greetings Form germany. I just received my edc three bag and some other stuff. I am really pleased with the quality and i wouldnt have thought the tape measure would be covered in leatherette. Thank you very much for these wonderful items, i cant wait to use. I‘m looking forward for the apron with your signature i‘m just about to order! Have a wonderful day!
Man… “I hope you enjoy it in its full length…” (well, with all the mini link videos around the final seconds it was challenging)
Yeah, this is the way!
Absoultely amazing Norm.
that is definitely the way
Some white UV activated glow in the dark paint along the edge of the saber blade would really tie it all together
Nice one, Norm! Love your approach and techniques.
It baffles me that the US still measure almost everything in imperial units. For something like this, metric feels more appropriate and precise. But if it works for you good on you.
Lots of cool techniques in this video!
Much of these materials are used in ADA Signage which is the field I work in, Rowmark makes some really great dual tone acrylic, including metallic look face with black middle for laser etching. Also the Matte Black Acrylic is actually called Black P95, P95 is offered in a few different colors including Clear, White and a few Beige colors. Weld-On with a needle applicator is good, but a better route to create that background without mess would be to laminate the piece completely with something like MacTac which is a wide format double sided adhesive. Next laser cut the entire set of shapes and use the negative space that was created by the laser cutter as a "Carrier Template" to peel and stick the pieces, and roll them with a brayer to get good adhesion.
Just need Hot Toys 1/6th scale Moff Gideon and you have a complete fight scene diorama. Great work as always and always enjoy your DIY fun project and lighting/photo shoot of your BANDAI Medicom Kaneda bike with Nebula and also 1/6th Mk. 43 w/ Hulkbuster.
Nice Norm! Looks Awesome!
Wow totally awesome love to own one myself......
Want one ❤
Would love to see your process on actually calculating the geometry in Illustrator once you’ve made your sketch. I can imagine things and sketch them all day, but how do you actually make things fit in the software so the cuts fit in real life?
A CO2 laser cutter has a cutting thickness (kerf) of about 0.3 millimeters. Once you know the physical tolerances of a given material (plywood being squishy, as opposed to acrylic being relatively uncompressible for instance) pieces can be made to be perfectly snap-fit, taking into account both the thickness of the laser and the needed overlap for a strong pressure fit. Besides that everything is quite straightforward really, it comes out exactly as drawn.
@@piorism thank you!
@@br88dy Anytime. I can only recommend to get an intro to laser cutting at a local makerspace - the potential is vast to say the least. And unlike 3d printing and CNC machining, it is very, very fast.
@@piorism I finished the Y1200 Further Fab laser cutter build last year and am looking forward to using it. I can't be away from home at the shop all day until my very elderly dogs have transitioned out of this world lol. I am very comfortable with Fusion360 and 3D printing objects I've designed. But with the laser cutter, 3D printers, and my modelling skills combined...I get giddy. Do you have a laser cutter?
@@br88dy Ha, you have all you need then, cool !
I have access to a Gbos cutter at a local uni space, which I really enjoy ; also some experience with a Trotec but not a fan of the way the job managing software operates. Currently waiting for a tiny 400x400 diode laser to arrive for smaller scale projects at home :)
All it takes is a good vector drawing program really. I personally cannot stand Illustrator/Inkscape/Affinity as they are all incredibly slow and clunky to operate. I do all my 2d drafting for cutting in MOI3D as its CAD tools are very fast and well thought out, similar to oldschool Autocad really.
This is the way.
Now you HAVE to buy Moff Gideon to complete the scene. Sixth Scale collecting is a bit of an addiction.
Did you ever share your awesome wall design for a laser cutter? I’d really like to try this on our new xTool P2, but not so good at designing.
Still need to learn how to make one
Really cool
PLEASE can you help me make a diorama for JazzInc’s batmobiles?! A wet, highway road would be amazing
Not bad.
Great build! I did a Mando Black Series diorama and it’s fun to see that Star Wars has such iconic shapes. I used MDF but that matte acrylic is tight!
Nice model norm sir
Lol for my project I'm making similar diorama "Sets" for a fan film out of recycling and dollar store supplies. Life size as well as for various scales of Toys to used vintage vein of Classic Doctor Who and Star Trek FX for No Budget DIY.
Really great work. I was thinking the 1/8" material would be too thick for raised the panels, but it really scales well. I think it might be too thick for a 1/6 Death Star panel, but spot on for this.
I also use the masking to make the pinstriping on mine... just using a rattle can works great and can give you very clean lines even at a small scale like this.
Nice but I was expecting more from you guys
Nice build, some interesting methods.
J'ai l'impression que les LED du panneau rouge tombent en panne au fur et à mesure de l'avancée du montage :/
Elles fonctionnent encore ?
Never clicked on a video so fast in my life.
Perhaps I DO need a laser cutter.
This is The Way
Where did you place Mando knife?
Looks great, thanks Norm.
🔥👏🔥🤘🔥🤙
Soooooo who is building this, and how much you want for it? 👀
You don't do the Podcast anymore?
Except the camera was at knee height. Right?
i'm waiting for Luke but this is awesome too
Can you share blueprints?
Honest criticism - the near pitch black lighting setup for showing off this chrome Mando, and then the whole diorama setup at the end, is a bust.
🤤🤤🤤🤤
I feel like it needs a paint job
A little spendy but it looks really great!
Any chance you want to share the files for those of us lucky enough to have a laser? 😊
Good grief Hot Toys Mandalorian goes for 450 bucks. That price it should come with a diorama kit smh.
I'm still waiting for a Werner Herzog action figure. 😐
Not trying to be mean but Norm looks like he’s 20 and 40 at the same time
Ack! The white out pen technique is cringe.
