Gunther had great ambitions and goals and was very humble and determined with them. He was making wrestling successful in Germany. The problem was he was simply too good of a wrestler to not be wrestling at the highest level.
Herr Ring General Walter did some amazing stuff on the indies and NXT UK. I haven't watched WWE in a long old time barring the odd match or event but I'm really glad he's being recognised and respected, even with the gimmick name change.
For me with the Gunther Slump Arc Gunther was still a heel but he just felt like a dude who just wanted to beat his opponents fair and square and was shaken by the fact he couldn’t, he has always been one of my favorites

Gunther has impressed me so much. it's was aware of his work and matches against guts like Will Osprey before he came to WWE. it's no wonder so many old school superstars love this guy's work. he doesn't need any over the top character or promos. he is more believable and in the ring the man's a main even star fir a reason.

According to who? Because if you are WWE and looking at Merch sales and TV contracts, those 2 are the biggest reasons they are bigger than ever. Cody right now is at Cena/Hogan/Rock levels of popularity, so it's kind of hard to say they're doing something wrong. Gunther is getting Babyface reactions as a heel, so I don't see either one losing their title for a long time
