  • From the 80's Channel 4 TV show 'The Unforgettables'
Clarence 'Frogman' Henry got his nickname due to his voice which had a trademark croak, especially utilised on his 1956 debut single "Ain't Got No Home." This signature voice accompanied by Frogman's good nature and talent flew him into a career which lasted over forty years in the Crescent City. From New Orleans, Henry's style was American Rhythm and Blues and he was a singer and a pianist.

If you never saw or heard of "Frogman" you would try to imagine what he would look like. I found him to look like he is. Not pretentious or put-on but a fat black guy that sang like he looked. He moves with a grace and confidence that is rare and just beautiful.

On this day in 1961 {June 30th} Clarence 'Frogman' Henry performed "You Always Hurt The One You Love" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand...
About sixs weeks earlier on May 15th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #12 and spent 10 weeks in the Top 100...
He also performed "Lonely Street" on the same show; it reached #57...
    R.I.P. Mr. Clark...

On this day in 1961 {June 30th} Clarence 'Frogman' Henry performed "You Always Hurt the One You Love" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV weekday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'...
At the time the song was at position #16 on Billboard's Hot R&B Singles chart, the week before it had peaked at position #11 {for 1 week}...
It reached #12 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart and on August 10th, 1961 it peaked at #6 {for 1 week} on the United Kingdom's Official Top 50 Singles chart...
And on the same 'Bandstand' show he also performed "Lonely Street", it reached #19 on the Hot R&B Singles chart...
Besides the above two, he had two other records on the Hot R&B Singles chart, and they were his biggest hits, "Ain't Got No Home" {#3 in 1956} and "(I Don't Know Why) But I Do" {#9 in 1961}...
Clarence 'Frogman' Henry celebrated his 82nd birthday three months ago on March 19th, 2019...

From WIKIPEDIA: Fats Domino and Professor Longhair were young Henry's main influences while growing up.[1] When Henry played in talent shows, he dressed like Longhair and wore a wig with braids on both sides. His trademark croak, utilized to the maximum on his 1956 debut hit "Ain't Got No Home," earned Henry his nickname and jump-started a career that endures to this day.[1] "(I Don't Know Why) But I Do" and "You Always Hurt the One You Love", both from 1961, were his other big hits.[2]
