- In this episode of my series “Walks in Wiltshire”, I take a 5.5 mile circular-ish walk from the Barbury Castle Country Park which is located about 4 miles South of Swindon. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I parked my car, fir free, at the Barbury Castle Country Park car park & immediately took a short detour to the West in order to explore around the amazing Barbury Castle Hillfort.
Retracing my steps back to the car park,I passed by the Neil King Racing stables and headed East along a section of The Ridgeway across Smeathe's Ridge.
My next destination was the pretty village of Ogbourne St George where I got to visit the enchanting church of St George.
After a wander around the village and a look at the River Og, I started on my return journey by following a bridleway up to Burderop Down.
There were some stunning views to enjoy at the top of the down, right by the memorial stone to Alfred Williams & Richard Jefferies.
The car park was only a few hundred yards on from the memorial stone.

Thanks, Dave for another splendid walk. I love seeing and learning about all the hillforts and barrows. Logan looks awfully smart in his winter vest. He looks rather pleased with himself 🦮
Thank you. Yes, it was just not quiet warm enough for his lightweight fleece!
beautiful walk in Barbury Castle Country Park
Thank you Cath.
Thank you Dave and Logan for a super walk in the Autumnal sunshine! The colours were fabulous!
Lovely to see the racehorses and that memorial stone was in such an amazing spot!
... Great to see Logan having fun and gallops!😊 Always makes us smile!
Thank you Susan. Logan loved his wander along the Ridgeway.
I like your walks especially the ones in the new forest since that’s where I’m from
Thank you. There will be some more videos of walks in the New Forest, on the channel, going forward. Thanks for watching.
@@DaveFordthank you 👍
@@DaveFordYour New Forest walks are the best with a blue sky and a pub en route! Cheers
@@mikewalker8655 Yes indeed ..... we missed out on a pub on this one!
It was certainly a lovely day there Dave . Logan and you look great under the Autumn sky . Thank you both for another beautiful walk. Hugs to Logan ❤
Thank you Melissa. There were some lovely Autumn colours that day.
Another walk in a superb countryside, thank you again for sharing !
Thank you & indeed thanks for watching.
No pub, no beer, no crisps, but another lovely walk. Thanks for making the effort (without the reward), Dave. Now we are in February, I guess it won't be long before you're into your schedule of 2025 walks - more to look forward to.
Thanks Jim. Yes, just 4 more weeks of walks from 2024 before we start out on 2025!
Wonderful walk in the countryside and amazing village with trails
Many thanks Keith.
Lovely watch as usual. It's a walk I'm familiar with but not been there since before Covid so it was great to be reminded of the sights and sounds. Thank you for creating and sharing
Thank you Jerry. Some beautiful "open" views around there - lovely on a clear day.
What a beautiful walk and nice to see the seasons turn. The first time I walked the Ridgeway I stayed in Ogborne St George at the stables run by a very curmudgeonly chap who treated me like an extra horse! There were cockroaches in the shower! So quite a memorable stay. Loved walking the Ridgeway in my day and this brought back memories.
Thanks Jean. That section of the Ridgeway is quite spectacular for views. Sorry to learn about your experience at OSG!
superb video as always Dave 🙏
Thank you. A great walk for views!
Lovely hillfort
It is a great place to explore. Thanks for watching.
So nice to see the trees in autumnal splendor. Every season has its own beauty. Logan looks smart in his winter coat and it’s great to see him racing about in it. Thank you for another enjoyable walk Dave.
Thank you Lynn. Yes, it was certainly "Winter coat" weather!
Another lovely walk. Thank you.. I’m going Devon/Dorset next Weekend, just hope the weather plays ball..
Thank you. Fingers crossed for good weather for you!
Good evening Dave I have not been to that village but if I remember the old railway bridge you are looking at the road to right takes you to the lovely village of albourne its a lovely road to drive and of course a fantastic video so very enjoyable 😊
Thank you Craig. There are some very pretty villages dotted around there - such a lovely part of the county.
Another lovely walk Dave. I haven’t walked in that area myself, but have visited Marlborough several occasions. I must make effort, as the scenery is quite spectacular.
Thank you Charles. A great area for stunning views around there for sure.
