After comming back to pretty much every carneval phantasm scene for years, I just realized that Rin only fails at what she considers to be most important. So her failing at recording even after Archer helped her means that she considered Shirous request to be the most important thing by far that evening. Witch just melts my heart.
Bonus content level: presumably, Carnival Phantasm takes UBW into account, as A) being future-Shirou, Archer probably remembers 'That time Rin couldn't press two buttons on a Blu-Ray recorder' and B) he finally has enough respect for Shirou to try and cut him a break by telling Rin how it works rather than letting things play out as he remembered them. But in the end, all he found out was why there was a mysterious hole in the roof when he got home.
That smile is the one of some who knows exactly how it'll play out and still finds it funny. Kind of how I could watch this video on repeat and still find it funny (mostly because I understand technology)
Actually, canonically Archer can barely remember anything aside from his original ideals and Saber. I think after a while he manages to remember Rin, but that's the furthest extent of his memory; he probably can't remember some meaningless show. Then again, in the visual novel Shirou can't handle anything newer than VHS and is barely a step above Rin in that department XD
I really don't get why people keep thinking that the Archer Rin summoned the first time is the same one as the one she got the second time. In EMIYA's timeline, there was likely a different Archer present at the time. That's why his presence in the past causes so many butterflies. He's not supposed to be there, and he's deliberately going out of his way to cause more.

What I meant is Rin in FSN and UBW did not use other relic to link other servants so Archer's pendant from Rin will always come first to respond the call, but if she did use one, for example a piece of Round Table, she may summon the Knight of Round most compatible with her. Btw Rin's FSN pendant has NO Effect on linking any servant at the time of summoning, not even Archer you know?

Iskandar for example understood how to play video games with Waver, granted heroic spirits are granted knowledge of the era, but I'm guessing that doesn't mean absolutely everything because that's a bit too much and it would hardly be necessary to know how to play a modern game console when you're a spirit summoned for a war. Technology during Iskandar's life was barely advanced at all though considering Alexander the Great lived so long ago.
So to summarize the thread, being terrible with tech is very standard for mages, except in the cases of Waver, Kiritsugu, Chaldea, Atlas Acadamy, and all the other exceptions, because no rule exists in Fate that isn't broken regularly.

So apparently, that bad end that the nekos got at the end is the HARDEST ENDING to get in the original FSN visual novel. To paraphrase TVTropes, It is virtually impossible to get on purpose...

So... I just realized Blu-Ray wasn't even _invented_ until 2005, the year _after_ the events of Fate/Stay Night. The Carnival Moment causes strange occurrences indeed.
The other fate shows literally show flatscreens and smartphones. I believe the series usually takes place when the writers feel like it.
Fate Stay/Night universe is just more advanced by about 3 years.
