      Hi Lilian. I no longer have access to the dress forms I need to to a good demonstration of pants and men's shirts, but perhaps I can persuade a friend to stand in for them.

    I’ve just found your channel and I’m so happy to find a way to draft this which is explained clearly and well demonstrated. I was watching a tv show last night and I liked an A-line skirt I saw. It started me wondering if I had an A-line skirt pattern or one I could tweak to make my version of the skirt. Now I’ll just make the pattern myself!! Thank you! Especially for adding in Metric measurements on screen. All those inches and fractions make my head hurt. 😆

    Hi Christopher,
    I wanted to say thank you for your tutorials. I was able to make my own block pattern and it turned out perfect! When I made the mock up I only had to slightly change the neck line because I did not have the right French curve. I need one for a plus size person and can not find one. Thanks again! I will definitely be doing all the other tutorials you have.😊

      Don't hold your breath. If you're a beginner, I wouldn't recommend attempting to draft pants. You're better off starting with an existing pattern, or copying the pattern from a pant that fits you.

    Easy to watch, easy to understand and follow and makes total sense. Thank you. I am about to attempt my first ever skirt for a friend. She measured herself, waist, hip, length of skirt but I have no waist to hip measurement. Anyway I can work that out? If she measures will she measure from waist straight down to hip line or measure the curve of the hip at the side?

    • @christophersartorial7671
      @christophersartorial7671  4 года назад +3

      @@muglermugler5590 I may demonstrate that as a short video, but if you want to try beforehand: 1. Trace your armseye onto paper. 2. Shift the wrist forward below the elbow as in the 2 pc sleeve vid. 3. Fold, trace, and unfold the four quadrants, as in the sleeve sloper vid. Dart out the excess along the back seam at the elbow.

    Hi Chris. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Just one question please. I use double dart skirt for my hip is 10inch more than waist so how can i pattern this A skirt?

    • @christophersartorial7671
      @christophersartorial7671  3 года назад +3

      You can follow the same method, but it's easier to start with a single dart sloper. You may want to go ahead and draft a single dart sloper, just to use as a basis for other styles. If you use your double dart sloper, you may need to combine the two darts into one for the A-line skirt, as they will likely be too narrow to keep as two.

    Hello, can you also teach us about the placement of the patterns? I still get confused particularly on the grainline. Thank you so much for this. I have so many fabric and yet too scared to cut them up without a pattern fitted for me.

    • @christophersartorial7671
      @christophersartorial7671  4 года назад +3

      Forgive me Iris, but I tend to assume that viewers of my videos already have considerable pattern and sewing experience. The grain line of a pattern is typically parallel to the center front or center back, but there are exceptions. You might want to look into taking a class at a local fabric store.

    Precise, easy to follow. How much flare can one add using this method?

    • @christophersartorial7671
      @christophersartorial7671  3 года назад

      Sorry for the late reply, Jackie. You can rotate the entire dart into the skirt hem, which will give you quite a bit of flare.

  • @georginahighfield2615

    Hi Chris! So inspired by your videos! I'm trying to make my wedding dress! Was wondering if I could adapt this skirt slightly to make it floor length?
    Was also wondering if you have any fabric recommendations, I'm a bit scared of choosing a satin/silky fabric and it going all wrinkly! Thanks so much, Georgina :)

    • @christophersartorial7671
      @christophersartorial7671  3 года назад +2

      You can certainly raise or lower the hem to any length. As far as the fabric, go with the look you want. I suggest trying the dress out in an inexpensive test fabric similar in feel to the one you are considering.

    What do you do if there isn't a dart? On a sloper that I followed from somewhere else, my back sloper doesn't have a dart, but the front one does.

    • @christophersartorial7671
      @christophersartorial7671  4 года назад +2

      A skirt pattern with no dart in the front can work for a narrow figure, but can be a problem for a more curvy woman. The problem is that the side seam is more curved along the front pattern than it is along the back. This makes them off balance, and if the front is too curved, and can cause pulling or pouching at the hip. If you want to add a waist dart to the front pattern, bring the front hip curve out to match the back, then take out what you added as a waist dart.

  • @bestmusicformyheart
