I wish
It's way, way slower though with robots. Computers get outdated in 6-12 months. Robots can be around for a decade before they become obsolete. People are still building Darwin robots and many of those are better than all the robots in this video.

I just realized something. I wonder if Cozmo was inspired by a character from WALL-E because the name of the robot character is MO and they both sound similar and both have a similar arm. Maybe I'm just going crazy.

No prices mentioned in this video. Alpha 1 is $450 at Walmart! Not sure about the Alpha 2. Can't find it on the internet. The NAO robot is $10,500 and finally, Pepper robot is $14,800.
Any good robot is going to be in the $5,000-10,000 range. Robots just aren't cheap, and won't be for a long time. This is the frontier of this industry, like how computers were in the 80's.
Anki ( who made cozmo) made another robot named Vector and he looks like exactly the same, he has her own personality and all the same features cozmo has and it cost only about 120 dollars. I just bough one and i realllyyy recommend,

I'm 55 & it's always been my dream to have a real robot like asimo before I die... getting closer but probably won't happen as I still dream about having one of the older aibos & even a cosmo is still kinda expensive :o(

Get a Vector. It's not on this list. But it's the best AI home robot in the market right now. Look him up. He the next gen after Cozmo but much more intelligent and independent.

A simple r2d2 droid would do for most jobs in my house, I'll tell the stories and entertain the children myself.
I like how Alpha is talking so calmly to the child when he's in bed.

They are building these in Singapore to lower the cost of the Alpha 1 and 2. The main thing is the waiting time. It takes 7-15 business days to build and add another 7-20 days to receive.
NO it’s not a dog it’s a robot that looks like a dog. You need something to communicate with because people don’t know how to have REAL communication with real humans.
How can one have a true connection when the so called "Human Communication" is based on Judgment for being different (everyone is truly unique) , expectation to be that which one needs (everyone has the right to freely be oneself) and fear to be judged back equally. Yes, It is complicated and potentially hazardous with humans when they cannot understand, contain and control their toxic emotions. LOVE is all there is in all forms and shapes, everything else is a result of mental and emotional imbalance.

Head Banger nao isn’t creepy and scaled up would be ok. Romeo has a head shaped like a toddler which is mega creepy and proportions a little too human. Romeo getting slightly too close to the uncanny valley. NAO is more like a spaceman with proportions very un human. I think that’s important in humanoids.
But you should see Nao now... same size but he literally has learned to drive his own car.

Just came from seeing Terminator: Dark Fate. The ones creating all this tech, robotics and AI obviously didn't watch the Terminator movies and aren't aware of what happens to humans as a result, or....maybe....they are.

Has anyone taken any of these robots and customized them with paint and parts to look more dystopian and less cutesy? I would love to see either the UBTECH Alpha 2 or the NAO Next GEN robot look battle worn with an entirely different look. Are there any customizers who do this sort of thing?

Not sure it's the best idea to be manufacturing artificial dogs when the shelters are so full of real dogs with real feelings and needs, and no one to take them in. But, maybe as a plaything for someone's real dog, CHIP could be useful. (Meanwhile...I want a giant ant robot. Maybe the size of a Lab or german shepherd.)
first thing i thought myself. Many people dont want pets as they are dirty ,destructiv and cant be reset if you screwed up with them etc. Such famlies that forbid pets will likley end up with such a dog toy as a comprimise to the children.
There is a real market out there for that
