  • Jaguar Saloon cars were produced from 1948 to 1964, and were considered some of the most stylish and luxurious cars on the market. Powered by the legendary XK six-cylinder engine, which was known for its smooth power and refinement, some of the most popular Jaguar Saloon cars included:
Jaguar Mark V (1949-1951): The Mark V was the first Jaguar Saloon car to be powered by the XK engine. It was a large and boxy-framed car, and hydraulic brakes replaced mechanical ones. It was a popular and reliable vehicle for both private buyers and businesses. Additionally, it won third place at the 1951 Monte Carlo Rally.
Jaguar Mark VII (1951-1956) In 1951, this car took the place of the Mark V. The Mark VII was a more refined and upmarket version of the Mark V featuring a sleeker body design and a more powerful engine. Advertised as the car that had "grace, space and pace," it was also powered by the XK engine, but modified for the Mark VII, this car could reach 160 horsepower. The Mark VII offered a luxurious leather interior, fine wood paneling and a sliding sunroof. The Mark VII did not skimp on speed either, as it won many rallies including the 1956 Monte Carlo rally.
Jaguar Mark VIII (1957-1961) The Mark VIII was a major update to the Mark VII. It featured a new body design complete with folding tables, cigar lighter and Essex Plush Ultra Thick carpet. This vehicle was geared more towards the "executive market."
Jaguar Mark IX (1958 -1961) This was considered very "executive transportation." Generally similar to the Mark VIII it replaced, it had a larger, more powerful 3.8 liter engine, 4-wheel disc brakes, and power-assisted recirculating ball steering among its mechanical improvements. Visually, the early versions were identical in exterior appearance to the Mark VIII except for the addition of a chrome "Mk IX" badge to the boot lid. It was available with a four-speed manual transmission or a three-speed automatic transmission. The Mark IX could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 9.5 seconds, and had a top speed of 120 mph.
