    Just watched Haze live with Nas and the National Symphony Orchestra - He was a GREAT surprise and COMMANDED stage presence while performing and being illuminated in the performance as well. For my first live symphony and second concert experience, I am forever grateful.
    PS thanks to Nas’s lights guy (Mike) for telling me your name because I wouldn’t have found your page so fast!

    8" Toms are so fucking awesome! I would love to tune and play the whole set. Tuning and especially fine tuning to perfection became somewhat like an obsession to me. And what I love the most about this video is the tuning itself. Most drummers nowadays seem to aim for a quite low tuning. And sometimes it gets out of hand in a way where toms are not only indistinguishable in the mix but not hearable! I love the pitch and the tone of the drums. It's a matter of taste. I get that. But this dude is capable of actually tuning a drumset! I love everything about this! But it's fair to say that high quality drums are a lot easier to tune than cheap material.
    Edit: turn of the fucking wires bro!! 😅

    • @Haze_amaze_
      @Haze_amaze_  24 дня назад +2

      Thanks a lot! Tuning is something that I feel we should all study and practice as drummers. And yeah of course anything of a higher quality should be better and easier to manage. but I feel like if you can tune, you can tune any drum to sound good… but if not, having a higher quality drum won’t just make your tuning magically sound good. We understand that a drum is a drum and doesn’t sound like anything until we put the key to the tension rod. Higher dollar drum or lower dollar drum can produce the same note, but often the tone will be different, resonance, etc. and Everyone has their own tuning method. Snares on or off, to notes, whatever it is. In my opinion, As long as the drum sounds good, then hey! Have a great gig haha

    • @RWD1907
      @RWD1907 24 дня назад

      @@Haze_amaze_ I'm with you on that brother. Tuning a drum is as important as tuning every other instrument. A lot of practice goes into what it means to work with the material. You have the shells themselves. They are made out of wood that resonates in a particular way. But this is just the beginning. Because then you have the rims, which can vary in material, quality, thickness and weight. A flanged hoop will make a tremendous difference to a diecast hoop. And of course the skins are of importance too. This is where practice and experience turn into knowledge: because the experience with different skins (coated, clear, 1 ply, 2 ply etc.) is what makes the sound of a drum to your sound. But this takes time. When I talk to drummers, who have pain with the sound of their drums, it turns out to be quite a similar experience they went through: they don't spend enough time and focus on how to get the sound they want to have. I spend hours and hours just sitting in my room, tuning my drums and listening to them. This now gives me the possibility to tune any drum to my likes. Keep it up!

    Question here for sound engineers or anyone who knows, while doing sound check for toms, do you prefer to have the snares off to hear the toms only or snare on to take it in consideration, as it's going to be on for 98% of the show probably.
    Its probably just a detail but im curious...

      I’ve never heard an engineer ask me to turn the snares off while checking drums. It’s like you said, the snares are on for a majority of the show (most times the whole show in my case) so I’m also curious to see if any engineers ask for snares to be turned off ever

    Question: Did you ever consider using a drum dial for tuning I've found (After 25 years) that it cuts tuning time in half and they are always "Pitch Perfect" in 1/2 the time of tuning by ear! Just a suggestion...
