- Mass protests resumed in Tbilisi over the "foreign agent" bill as tens of thousands of Georgians marched through the city in the latest display of opposition to legislation that would affect the work of foreign-backed NGOs. Earlier demonstrations were met with a violent police crackdown, but the May 11 protest appeared to proceed peacefully.

I do not think many Georgian people have been to modern Germany, France, or the UK. These are also corrupted, oppressive and economically breaking places, with failing infrastructure in social services. Aside from now, massive pollution in rivers and lakes and sea, due to failing and inadequate waterworks, just ONE example. That is aside from the superficial pantomime that gives the impression of a 'free media' which is anything but that. However, many Georgians still believe in this holy grail of a 'free west.' It just does not exist like it looks on Moves and Instagram.

Andy, can you explain how a small culture like Georgia being effectivley governed by foreign western NGOs equals Georgia being free? Many people protesting maybe have never been to the west and have the Instagram version of it. Maybe when they realise after the media is owned by Google and Hollywood, they might realise.
How this bill is correlating with russia, or russisn law? One can say it's an american law. The fact that the west is against this bill shows how big is their influence right now.

They do unfortunately. Veto would be purely symbolic and will protract the enactment
Yes, they do. The largest party, Georgian Dream, runs a coalition government with the 3rd largest party, People's Power, so they have enough votes. This was shown when the president vetoed the offshore law, which was quickly overturned by the parliament. Zurabishvili knows this, so she's trying to score some points with the people like the clever demagogue she is.

We had Euromaidan and the war with Russia in 1991. Chechenia had Euromaidan and war with Ruzza in 1995. We had the Rose Revolution in 2003 and in 2008 one more war with Russia. We lost because we are only 4 Million people and Chechnya/Population is 1.394 Million. Ukraine had the Orange Revolution in 2004, Euromaidan in 2014, and the war with Russia began in 2022. Ukraine/Population 38 million
