Im a nurse, and I once removed a 5 to 6 inch long wax ribbon from an elderly ladys ear. I was flushing her ears per the drs orders in the clinic i worked in and was having a bit of difficulty getting the wax to come out. Finally after several warm fluches, out it came. I was blown away! She had been told she needed hearing aids by some random sales company, but after I got her ears clean she could hear quite well. She had been using Q tips and impacted the wax over and over and it somehow formed into a ribbon that was folded against itself.
Ive just found this channel and Ive seen a few videos now. As I watched, especially this one, I've been thinking that I've seen so many videos of Dr Lee that other drs just aren't as good as her and haven't found another dr that I enjoy watching because of their awful bedside manners. Some even embarrassing patients by making them wear goofy Halloween masks to hide their identity and even the drs assistants gasping and yelling EEWWW whenever a cyst is extracted etc. and I know the patients are embarrassed, I know I would be. So Ive only been watching her until now. You have an excellent bedside manner and your patients seem to enjoy the visit. Thank you for sharing your work and making your patients feel comfortable. Ive now subscribed to your channel.

yay Jacalyn! I was thinking cast also. I have only seen one, which was a complete cast of the ear canal - not made of wax, but actual *lining* of some weird type. The guy went to urgent care where they refused to touch it (it was dangling out of his ear), but the ENT just YANKED it right out without a by-your-leave, lol. "Waxy cast" makes so much sense in this case. Thanks for the info.

When I was a kid, I picked a big earwax ribbon out of my ear. It was like a feather! This reminded me of that surreal childhood memory.

That membrane is the tympanic membrane or "eardrum." It is a normal structure of the ear.

Hi :) I believe we still need some natural lubrication in there so debris and dead skin etc. has the chance to move out of the ear canal naturally?
