I went to Canyonland the first time in 2002, the last time in 2010. I didn’t get on the Shaft trail because I was scared even if my husband controlled the wheel. A friend of mine said that she passed out for a couple of minutes when riding in as her husband was driving. The whole area is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Nice footage. Shafer trail is fantastic. And it’s actually bidirectional! Last summer, we were driving up it, and this crazy dude is driving down in a truck with a super wobbly huge camper on the flatbed. It was frightening even looking at that rig as it was making its way down. The rig wasn’t even 4wd, and had really mushy suspension which made the camper rock significantly back and forth. A couple in a vehicle ahead of us talked the nut cases into turning around. Watching them turn their rig around on those tight switchbacks was nerve racking in itself.
That was a nice timelapse. Did you see the movie Joe Dirt? Canyonlands was used as The Grand Canyon. I spent the whole night at Mesa Arch doing the Milky Way rise then just hanging out with this other dude until the shot for sunrise. Talk about a sky full of stars. It was awesome just lying down a few feet from the edge. It is worth it. There is plenty of space for sometimes two vehicles on the Shafer Trail. There are other trails out there with space for only one vehicle. Shafer Trail was easy. Nice job. you made it all the way to Musselman Arch.
Those where the Shafer switch backs, I drove them once in a 72 Ford F-250 that was to long to make the turns so I had to back down every other switch back, that was fun.
We went in there in an F-350, one ton, crew cab, dually. Only made it to the first big turnout and cowardice became the better part of valor so we drove back out.
We did that just about 2 weeks ago. Not as early though. Add a nice breakfast. My wife will go almost anywhere after a nice breakfast. You can see most of the Shafer Trail Road from the Dead Horse Point State Park Overlook. Not the swichbacks, hmm. Then there is an overlook across the street from the Canyonlands Visitor Center, where you can see the road along the cliff face, can't really see the under cut arches in the cliff under the road, and not the switchbacks. You drive along the cliff face on a very easy downgrade and then you go around a corner and there are the switchbacks. Your stomach wobbles and quivers some, but you press on Then they turn out to be not so bad because you can see pretty much where you are going and they don't have the drop offs the first part of the road has. Great trip.
my husband and I camped out on White Rim Road on our honeymoon. I had dreams about butch cassidy and train robbers. I thought someone was walking around our truck at night. It woke me up. I went back to bed and dreamed of highwaymen, which is what they were called in the days when men robbed banks and hid out in those canyons. That place is spooky cool!
Glenn, isnt the Moab area great. We’ve been 6 yrs straight and still more to see. Do the same trail over and still get a thrill. Schaffer Switchbacks is a fun drive
You can't fly a drone in the National Parks anyway (or most State Parks either). I enjoyed your perspective on "motivation". I use videography as an excuse to get my butt off a couch and get out there :-)
Hi, thank you for posting a wonderful video! Just one quick question. Do you know the name of the road that you took from the top of the cliff to down, (scary winding off road)? Thank you in advance!
Shaefers Trail, the entire 100 mile loop is called the White Rim trail. There are places much scarier than Shaefers on that route. Murphy's Hogsback and Hardscrabble to name two of them.
I think it is okay to listen to what he says and keep eye contact. This is a video clip. Maybe he will make another presentation to showcase his photography. Let us keep an eye out.
Haters going to hate. Nice video! I am headed there in 4 weeks. I can totally relate about people that want to go with me on my trips, until you tell them what it is like then they back down quickly. Only exception is I car camp the entire time moving from location to location.

You are absolutely correct in that MOST people have no idea as to how much effort and time goes in to capturing great photos and videos.

Mad props to you!

...and that's one of the tamer roads in Moab. It can get much more terrifying. ;)
I rented a dirt bike and rode up that trail, then took long canyon back to downtown Moab. One of the most fun days of my life 👍👍
Wow! Can’t get much more immersed than that!
Oh Canyonlands is my favorit place, I love it! Thank you for the video to remind me.

It may be a tamer road but terrifying if your apprehensive about heights.
I hate selfie sticks!
Based on the title, you probably came here looking for 6:40. But FYI, there are some very beautiful shots and a fantastic sunrise before that.

Mike Robbins it’s a pretty remarkable place!!
Nice work.I am going to Utah in September 2019.There is so much to see.

Great job, man! Absolutely loved the vid. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together for the rest of us.
Mike Bosley Thanks for watching, Mike!!
Thanks for the show! Love Canyonlands and Arches. Rode the White Rim on my enduro the last two years. Very nice!
I took my Ridgeline down that trail earlier this year. Pretty awesome!
Remy Two Times Right on, Ridgeline!
Great Footage. Looks like a great trip so far!
I’m going out there in May and can’t wait, what do you do when someone comes the other way ? Is there room for two vehicles?
You know the term "back up?" Well, whoever is going downhill must back up until there is sufficient room to pass.
You sir have just earned yourself another Subscriber! Great Video, Hopefully, our rig fits on some of these trails.
Great video Glenn. Can you post a bit about your stamp / coin things? Also.., You need a drone out there man.
MikeDeCamp I must've said "this is why I need a drone" about 8 times yesterday, haha. I talk about them in the 2nd half of Episode 11! Welcome back!
You can't fly a drone in the National Parks anyway (or most State Parks either). I enjoyed your perspective on "motivation". I use videography as an excuse to get my butt off a couch and get out there :-)
What headlamp are you using?

Myeong soo Kim I believe it was Shafer Trail, near the visitor’s center!

I came to look at the scenery, not your face, which is like 80% of the video

Haha! Dude, love the timelapse idea for the defrosting window. Sick! And that looked like such a dope drive!

I’ll be there in 2 days
Half the fun is a tent, a good looking women, beer and a fire. You missing it for pictures.
That's a busy day!
Nice video
Is that a 4x4 you are driving?
Drive Faster Simulation & Livery Yep!

Might have been more interesting if the music didn't dominate and drown you out. 👎
