  • Arcane Lands, my first attempt at doing some so called 'God-ray'' effects. It uses the depth buffer values to create the brightness of the rays. Yes It's 4K 60 fps.

This is pretty stunning! Does anybody do games using this kind of landscape generation?

Games use polygons for everything, and most things are prebuilt by artists, but there are some that use fractals like this, but those are still prebuilt and streamed in. Games like no mans sky pre-build planets on the fly, but everything is highly controlled, and made to fit certain parameters, that look ok to an artists eye, which is not a bad thing. Unfortunately that often means realistic worlds get toned down to look more like sci-fi art, rather than odd quirky places they should be.
