The Finance Ministry on Saturday informed the Lok Sabha that no decision has been taken to discontinue the printing of Rs 2,000 denomination currency notes.
n a written reply, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur said printing of bank notes of particular denomination is decided by the government in consultation with the RBI to maintain desired denomination mix for facilitating transactional demand of public.
During the year 2019-20 and 2020-21, no indent was placed with the presses for printing of Rs 2,000 denomination notes.
“However, there is no decision to discontinue the printing of Rs 2,000 denomination bank notes by the government,” the minister said.
Thakur also informed that as on March 31, 2020, there were 27,398 lakh pieces of Rs 2,000 notes in circulation compared to 32,910 lakh pieces on March 31, 2019.
He further said the RBI has informed that in view of nation-wide lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, printing of notes stopped temporarily.
However, the note printing presses resumed production in a phased manner, as per the guidelines issued by Central/State Government, he added.
The production activities at Bhartiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL) presses were suspended from March 23, 2020, to May 3, 2020. Printing of bank notes at BRBNMPL presses resumed with effect May 4, 2020.

RBI should ban one series of 2000 rupee notes every 3 months. See the magic

Not necessary. Just stop printing new notes and replace any 2000 note that comes to bank. They don't have to ban anything.
Once these instructions go to banks, message will spread like wild fire and those having 2000 notes will run around and dispose them off for buying things or sell them at discounted price. One way or other, they will reach banks and back to RBI. Govt can continue to say that they have not banned the note and it should be considered a legal tender. Also, banks should accept these notes. Within couple of months, all notes will be with RBI. If there are any left over, impose a ban with 1 year time. That is sufficient time for anyone to exchange at banks.
If there is will, it can be done without disrupting the economy.
Having said that, it is incorrect to say that black money hoarders could come out of Modi's demonetization unharmed. Lot of them had to exchange the old currency at discounted value. Most of which were encashed by local leaders and labour. It was difficult to find labour for work in those days. Everyone was in queues in front of banks to exchange 4000 Rs for new cash. Where did all these people get so many 500/1000 notes for so many days?
People like professor don't dig into that. They will not call for reconciliation of aadhar card copies of those exchanging 4000 to check if anyone exchanged more their normal worth.
It's all the games played by Modi & Co. He cleverly plays with people's emotions, to meet the intended political ends. He is collecting people's money in different forms of taxes, yet no allocation to states, their just shares, accumulating all funds at his disposal, compelling states to bow before him and beg.
It's not the same BJP as in the regime of Atalji and Advaniji.

Demonization is neither a success nor a failure, it is a start to change the way people do money transactions. No country will ever progress if people do transactions via currency notes. Money is a medium of exchange but sadly in our country it has become commodity of exchange. Mindset of people of this country shud change. People shud start making there own medium of exchange like cheque's, net banking, upi payments etc. This will increase the transparency. Govt will know the credit history of each transactions made and eventually this will lead to reduction in crime, corruption, illegal activities. My prediction is by 2035 india will have only 100 rs note as maximum denomination. Because now an average Indian will not spend more than 50 rs in a day. Govt shud brings reforms like any transactions made in the cash shud be less than 10000 and taxless and transaction above 10000 shud be via cheque, DD,netbanking, upi and introduce Bank transaction tax. Also abolish all the taxes except GST. This will force people not to do cash transaction. People understand and show some maturity. Demonization is just not for curbing black money, it is just a 10% of the problem. 2000 rs note brought to adjust the liquid cash for a temporary period. Now no urban bank atms dispose 2000 note. Slowly rbi will increase 200 and 100 note printing and reduce 500 note printing too. It is on going silent process. It is for our benefit only

1. Minister said that govt. has not instructed RBI to stop printing 2000 notes...that does not mean RBI is printing it...
2. U pointed out that before reaching Banks, 2000 notes are available in the house of shekhar reddy is totallly wrong.....by the time 2000 nites reached the banks but some bank managers had given new notes with 30% margin ....may be some situations plans may not work ...what to do...it is a large country ....many issues will be there...that does not mean the decisions taken by the govt. are always wrong...

The purpose besides, for which the Rs.2000 note was introduced is served since it has entered into the coffers of all black money holders. Now this is the time to withdraw the same from public. While doing so, the government should not commit the same blunders as it had committed last time. The following should be done to control it:. 1) Firstly All rs.2000 notes lying with banks should be frozen and taken account, so that no single note is added to that by them after that and they should not accept rs.2000 notes for exchange any more. 2) Then Government should ask public to declare in writing within 24 hours, how many notes they have in their pocession and take the lists on line and also maintain privacy strictly. 3) Now the government should start taking back the notes through all banks in exchange of other currency up to a limited value starting from low value. After that , people with heavy amounts should only allowed to deposit the rs.2000 currency in their bank accounts and no exchange of other notes should be allowed. All payments after that should be made paid by cheques or BT only. Then start investigating as to the source of income how they got, the taxes paid by them , etc. etc. and penalties to be paid by them. This should be done at any time as early as possible.
