I remember watching this in day care, this story frightened me when I was a little girl. The music really creeped me out, especially the French horn. It still frightens me today.
Yes!!! Same! I instantly got goosebumps as soon this started playing.... flashbacks. The music & these illustrations go so well together. Great spooky memory!
I remember renting the Weston Woods/Children's Circle version of this all the time at the library when I was little. The music in this is scarier than many horror movies I know.
I remember our teacher reading this book to us when I was in PreK back in 2011. I rediscovered this book around 2017-18. The part that spooks me most is the hall part with those unicorn statues.
Today we don't get good stories like this anymore. When I was a kid in school, heard this recording and nearly scared me..until is aw the page of the mouse and I laughed. But a good story none the less, and the art is just good
I recall this well....30+ years it's been! Know them tones all to well....prompting me to advance the projector lol. I play this for my wee ones now! Thank you
I remember being a little kid and just staring at the illustrations in this for hours. This book, Tailypo, and Goosebumps were definitely what kickstarted my horror obsession at a young age lol.
thank you for bring this amazing book alive for me and I still remember the day in 1 year sitting on the carpet desperately typing to read and yet despite everyone being frightened of the book, my instinct was to pick it up and understand the mystery of the cat...
I saw this book featured on Vera! So I googled it, and found this video. I like the creepy, scary music! The narrator sounds almost like Boris Karloff! I love the ending! Open the box, and there's a little mouse trying to sleep!! LOL! ~Janet in Canada
Now I know where saw it!! I did exactly the same. Today I posted this on Facebook to cheer up anybody a bit. And I knew I saw it somewhere as a rekwisiet, but could not remember where. But it was Vera. Greetings, Jannette in the Netherlands
A Dark Dark tale Once upon a time there was a Dark, Dark moor. On the moor there was a Dark, Dark wood. In the wood, there was a Dark, Dark house. At the front of the house, there was a Dark, Dark door. Behind the door, there was a Dark, Dark hall. In the hall, there were some Dark, Dark stairs. Up the stairs, there was a Dark, Dark passage. Across the passage, there was a Dark, Dark curtain. Behind the curtain, was a Dark, Dark room. In the room was a Dark, Dark cupboard. In the cupboard was a Dark, Dark corner. In the corner was Dark, Dark box And in the box, there was, A MOUSE! I did this for anyone who can't read the words. : ] Please tell me if I made any mistakes!
Turn the page. I used to have a Mickey mouse record player and we had these books with a record and Tinkerbell would twinkle her bell to indicate a page turn. Wow. That was a buried memory. About the Tinkerbell twinkle...
When I first saw this when I was young this legit gave me nightmares for a while till I started to like watching it eventually lmao
My favorite book

Exactly as the narrator tells it, you just need the creepy music and sound effects 😆
I learned this in elementary school, but instead of a mouse, it was a ghost
This was featured on "A Likely Story".
If you like the music, check out my MIDI transcription to hear it isolated! @
Hi! Fun fact about me: I'm a timpanist. I really want to learn the timpani part. Can you please post it?
The version with the ghost is scarier.
Okay...
Ohhh
I remember the music scared the sh!t out of me

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh Scary 😱😱😱😱
Good 👍👍
Good I know 😊
:)
Can I have it it’s so funny 👍🏼
That must be such a lonely spot.
To make the story darker, the cat likely killed the mouse.
In most likely a very subtle but brutal way.
Is that a Scholastic book? I think I got this book in a Scholastic order in grade 2 or 3.
Je parle français
Funny bones 👻💀
What's with the beeping?
