Yamato is the largest Battleship ever built along with her sister ship Musashi, and had the largest guns ever mounted on a warship (46cm Type 94 main guns)
There is a conspicuous lack of any deck mounted secondary and AA gun emplacements near or atop the 3 main turrets, this is because the pressure wave from the guns firing was so powerful it could kill anyone standing nearby when they fire
They also had 46cm anti aircraft shells, which were not effective
The Yamato took at least 8 Torpedo hits, all to the port side, and up to 15 bombs (1,000 lbs semi armor piercing ones)
Finally, it was armed with the triple 25mm AA gun, which for various reasons was painfully useless to the point that only 10 American planes were downed during Operation Ten Go (Yamatos only battle), several of which were destroyed by the ships magazine detonating
If you are interested in watching the show I would recommend the remake, Yamato 2199
The plot is pretty much unchanged but it seemed to tone down some of the stuff that aged poorly
We got star blazers in the USA in 1979
Fun fact: There is a Yamato Museum in Kure, Japan. It features a 1/10 replica of the battleship.
Star Blazers was my very first anime, although we kids didn't know it was from Japan at the time. It's still one of my favorite shows. The 2012 remake is good too.
My dad showed me the English version when I was 10 or Younger, I kinda remember it, and thought of it as a cartoon, not an anime lol.
Didn't know what anime was at the time tho so fair enough. I definitely need to rewatch it in full some time
Yo literally my dad showed me the show when I was a kid too! Tho I think it was cuz I mentioned I liked anime & he was like "oh I actually had an anime I liked watching growing up too, lemme show u it!"
