I have this portable painter and absolutely love it for Plein air! It’s so easy to set up and take down…..and easily sits on my leg…..so my hands are free to paint! Genius design!
They have even added new 1/4 pans to this set-up and for those wanting more paints to come along with them it works quite nicely! Good practical review and pleasant presentation too! Thank You!
I have both sets and love them. I love them even more after purchasing additional pan configurations from the originator. My micro now holds 16 colors instead of 6 and the larger palette holds 18 colors instead of 12. And I have additional half pans, quarter and full pans for different configurations. Nice review and great to see it in action. Love your paintings and channel.
I was quite skeptic but I finally bought it and I was charmed. It's surprisingly small but it's really comfortable and easy to use. I thought it will be too small but it's not. I put 15 colors by using the place where the brush sits and that's more than enough. That said, I didn't like the tiny one. Really, that's too small and it's more a gadget than something useful in my opinion but thankfully everyone has one [an opinion] 😉 Excellent review Emily.
A little while back, the company came out with some additional inserts - one set that slots into the brush slot on the Classic, and some divided pans for the Micro. I've not really tried the ones for the classic, but the ones for the Micro intrigued me. They aren't a classic full or half pan size, but set in the middle of the two. So where you could put either three half pans or one half and one full pan in each row of the Micro, two of the inserts fit in, and are divided either in half (four colors per row) or in quarters (eight colors). The double pan set up is nice, the quad... well, use small brushes. Each well is about 3/8" x 1/4", or 10mm x 7mm. I've worked with smaller wells, but they were shallower, so these felt a bit awkward for me. And because I'm me and can't help but meddle, I pulled up my modelling software and made two other variations - one that is a single well the size of one of the 2-division size (making four individual pans per row), and one that was three as a combined set. I have a couple of primary sets I like to play with, so I've filled three and a half (need to get more Ultramarine). The idea is that I can drop in one or two of the primary sets and two to five optional ones. I've _just_ done this, so we'll have to see how well that works out.

The original I bought to take out on my patio to paint, so I did not have to make several trips with my regular palette, brushes, etc. It has worked out really well. Genius design!
I love the portable painter classic. Favorite palette yet. I take it everywhere! Also they just came out with a new line of custom paint pans for the portable painter palettes. No more washed space for the brush I don't use!

Very nice painting skills. I'm not convinced by the product though. I've seen more practical DIY versions. I can see why some people might like it though, because it has been designed well.

A question for those of you who have used this for plein air: what do you do with the dirty water after painting?? I often see open vessels for plein air, integrated into the palette itself or used separately but I always wonder what to do with used water when painting in the middle of nowhere, with nowhere to safely dispose of the used water without harming nature That's why I always bring sealable jars, then dispose of the used water safely at home
Slop out and wipe that dripping cup !....nature is all around us - even in the city, at home ect. You probably did more " damage " to nature just getting to your painting location than your little pot of much diluted pigment will ever do. Stop worrying ...get out there and enjoy some painting.
If you were going to buy one compact field pallet, what would you buy? I’m seriously considering the Art toolkit Folio or Pocket Pallet. Would you do something like the art tool Folio or the Pocket pallet over the portable painter?
I'm a sucker for materials and art books - its bad ^^° I should paint more with the things I have. But I'll keep this little feller in mind - you never know :D
I liked your video, but when you said 30 dollars seemed like a lot to pay I had to laugh... try justify buying it if you happen to live in Canada GROSSLY OVERPRICED !

I love the Silver Black velvet travel brushes, but recently discovered Baielk brushes (on Aliexpress) and they are amazing, too!

That's why I always bring sealable jars, then dispose of the used water safely at home
Pour the dirty water back into whatever container I brought the clean water in.

The palette is adorable. Seems more suited for small brushes. Did you have to prime the mixing area so it didn’t bead up?

Have you noticed if the palette stains? That’s the one problem I have with plastic palettes. Maybe you know some trick to keep them from staining?
I haven’t used it long enough for staining but I assume it will. Doesn’t really bother me though.
