    Regarding "Rebellion Is a Hero's Privilege," I see it as a recapitulation of what Reinhard told Reuenthal after Kircheis' death ("Any of you are welcome to try to overthrow me whenever you want"). Reinhard did not defeat the nobles alone and seize the Empire, nor did he defeat the FPA alone and unify the galaxy; he was able to do it in large part because of the immense talent of the admirals under his command. Those men _chose_ him as their master and led his fleets on countless battlefields, risking life and limb (several of them died in battle, Wahlen lost an arm, Reuenthal himself was almost killed by the Rosenritter). They are all "galactic heroes," and Reuenthal was the best of them in terms of ability. So if he wants to try to become the ruler himself, that is his privilege: his years of service have earned him the right to test his skill against Reinhard. After all, didn't they rebel against the Goldenbaum dynasty on the principle that the most able should rule?
    That's my interpretation. I don't know if the author agrees with him here, but I think that's how Reuenthal saw it. He was laughing at the end of episode 93 because although he admired and even loved Reinhard, testing himself against the Kaiser and trying his chance at the throne had always been what he wanted deep down.

    • @TinyWaveTV
      @TinyWaveTV  Месяц назад +3

      Interesting interpretation 👌 what Reinhard told him was def significant: Reu thought of it in his ruminations and even Reinhard wondered if that was the cause of Reu's actions.
      This whole thing was very self destructive tho, cause his desire to go up against Reinhard, as it manifested in the battle of vermillion, wasn't attached to this premonition of defeat as it was this time around. He even caught himself thinking, "Oh, am i already thinking about getting defeated? I'm quite desperate now, aren't i?"

    • @felcaron
      @felcaron Месяц назад +3

      @@TinyWaveTV He has his contradictions for sure. I think it's an essential part of his characterization. His heterochromia isn't just a plot device for what his mother tried to do when he was a baby, it's also symbolic of his incongruous nature: the blue eye signifies the heroic, intelligent, passionate warrior, and the brown the ambitious, power-hungry rebel. I'm sure part of him didn't want to succeed in his revolt, since winning against Reinhard would have meant destroying much of what they had fought for up to that point; Mittermeyer in their last conversation was likely right that he wouldn’t have been happy after that. In the end, he was probably content with how things turned out, though it's a shame he never got to have that final drink with his friend.
      Despite his flaws, I think he is the most compelling character in the series, and he is my personal favorite.

    Reuenthal's rebellion was spur of the moment, and his rebellion at that time came before it, for all that saddens me was about Mittermeyer’s condition and his inability to participate in the final toast/cheers with his friend, so (and I do not object to the writer's will) but I sincerely hoped for a farewell scene between them, and when he lowered the lion's flag over Reuenthal's shoulder, the scene hurt me to the core. Would you cry or smile(because the hero received the honor of victory and was not humiliated). When Reinhard decided to return his admiralty of the fleet, I felt Reinhard’s grief and distress about the matter. Reuenthal is a man whose pride dominated him.

    The relationship of Mittermeyer and Reuenthal is very deep, and it may be difficult to formulate my feeling after I ended the separation of the war between them, perhaps complicated or thorny (fits the description) and the sadness that Mittermeyer couldn’t receive the honor of the last elites with Reuenthal, I wished to see them together before his death, but (it’s the will of the writer and there won’t be objectionable to it) Reuenthal is more loyal to the Kaiser than others even when he died (he concluded his will with The Kaiser, glory, victory and then death).

    • @TinyWaveTV
      @TinyWaveTV  Месяц назад +3

      I actually thought about what it would be like if Wolf was there in Reu's last moments, which made me think maybe it was for the better that he wasn't? Like he already has to live with the fact that he couldn't save his friend, being there and seeing him lose his life first hand would be too painful and yeah, i too would spare him that if i were the author.

  • @georgezongor2245
    @georgezongor2245 Месяц назад +6

    My interpretation on why Reuenthal rebelled was that he got dragged into it by his men and the rumors of his potential rebellion similar to how generals in imperial would wake up to find out that their soldiers are declaring them the next emperor and being forced to follow through due to the inevitability that the rumors reach the imperial court.

    • @felcaron
      @felcaron Месяц назад +5

      It's true that Lang's scheming more or less forced Reuenthal into this position, but I don't think the comparison to Rome holds, because Reuenthal wasn't dragged into it by his men: those who were in the know (like Bergengrun) tried to hold him back, and the rank and file believed that they were fighting against Oberstein and Lang, who were taking advantage of Reinhard's illness to monopolize the government. They weren't trying to make Reuenthal emperor; they were trying to save their emperor from his treacherous retainers, ironically.

      @@felcaron Much more like various revolts in medieval england or monarchies in general "Free the King from his wicked advisors" is a recurring theme. Probably much of it happens in China vs the Eunuchs and Japan, but I'm not well versed on their histories.

    Reinhart was channeling Napoleon there, you see. Ruenthal's showdown with the Kaiser comes acros as a Roman Civil, The thing about Rosenthal, without Reinhard as the leading player he could have ruled the empire. Oberstein interrupting that wedding with unpleasant business is a classic romance comedy anime moment.

    Eisenach at a rock concert is something I didn't know I needed before, but I do. So much. Also Reinhard should have taken Mecklinger along, he's the cultured one haha.
    The Uruvashi incident scene with Reinhard just charisma'ing the entire group of enemies and accomplishing victory without even laying a hand on them is great. And I appreciate that you acknowledge Muller, the poor damn thing. He's working so hard to keep his emperor alive, but Reinhard just can't help but be a diva. And when he threw up his arm to keep Reinhard from getting grazed by a bullet on his beautiful face, doing his best to respect his desire not to be Iron Walled (TM) and at the same time doing his job. Poor Muller.
    I guess "Rebellion Is A Hero's Privilege" could be read through the lens of Reuenthal's pride. This whole mess happened, in part, because he would rather be the cool defiant rebel rather than the person who explained himself before his Kaiser. Rebellion is a hero's privilege, but hashing out misunderstandings is unheroic. tl;dr man would do anything but go to therapy
    Bittenfeld is a treasure and his comic relief & cuteness is very much needed in emotional suffering times. Best waifu
    It was interesting getting your perspective on Annerose, because I was always under the opposite impression here. I believed her withdrawing was to avoid hurting Reinhard, not the other way around. Because there was a part of her that blamed him, but she recognized that giving in to it and just dumping all her anguish on him would be wrong. But she was wary of how stewing in this resentment could turn her against him, how she might just be overcome with emotion and one day yell at him if she was around him. So she decided to withdraw, get her feelings in order, mourn for Kircheis alone, and handle all these complicated emotions before dealing with her brother again. I viewed it as a sign of emotional maturity and great awareness of herself (something very few Imperial characters have lol). And this occasion was a great opportunity for her to ensure that she and Reinhard would have a good relationship from now on: a happy one; she'll be getting a sister-in-law and a nephew, and they could be a brother and a sister celebrating this new addition to the family rather than a brother and a sister separated by this chasm of Kircheis's absence. I thought her words to Hilda were a warning, yes, but not exactly meant to denounce Reinhard. Annerose had long since accepted what sort of a man her brother was, and this was an inextricable part of this. A desire not to be used by his enemies against Reinhard probably also played a part in her withdrawing. So it was interesting getting your perspective on this, showing a darker side to her choice.

      tbh I wouldn't go on a date with Mecklinger either 🙄 Even Eisenach has more spice and flavor than him and he never says a word 🥱😆
      Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Annerose situation btw 🙇‍♀️ It is a complicated dynamic, and I do believe I was a bit harsh on her here... it might be good to go back to it at some point for another video, me thinks~

    I think that the title "Rebellion is a Hero's Privilege" is supposed to draw comparisons to Reinhard's rebellion against the nobility and Goldenbaum dynasty at the start of the series and Reunthal's current rebellion against him. Implying that Reu lacks the qualities of a "hero" that allowed Rein to succeed in his revolt.
    In regards to the shower singing, I would love a cover of the 4th OP. I really like the lyrics of that one but it is annoying that the engrish is a bit worse than in the others so I have always wanted to see a cover of it!

    • @TinyWaveTV
      @TinyWaveTV  Месяц назад

      Yo that makes a lot of sense, actually. Reinhard def has that unrivaled star quality, and Reu wasn't the kind of hero that could compete with that, i guess. Then again, the situation that led to Reinhard's rebellion was very different from Reu's, which was the result of conspiracy and as such, lacked any firm basis.

    Reuental is not a hero, so he can't succed on a rebellion. Maybe in another universe or story he could do it, but this one where his story is all twisted and where he is so broken inside, despite Mittermeyer's effort to bring him together.

    To pile on more tragic hero comparisons, Reuenthal's flagship is named Tristan, as in _Tristan and Isolde._ Reinhard's is Brunhilde, as in _The Valkyrie,_ the lover of Siegfried (Kircheis), and Mittermeyer's is Beowulf, who isn't strictly a tragic hero, but elegiac.
